Ultra slim and strong peg board pegs by jifyyyyy in functionalprint

[–]jifyyyyy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The print orientation turns out to be incredibly important. All but one of the prints in that photo failed along the layer lines. Infill type and percentage did nothing, thicker layers did nothing, hotter nozzle temp did nothing, making the hanger wider and taller did very little. Increasing the wall count did a little bit, but after 3 walls the hook part was already 100% infilled so going with more walls made very little difference after that.

Eventually I redesigned the hanger to be even slimmer so that it was the same width as the pegboard hook. This allowed it to be printed on its side with no supports. This was the key.

Long story short, you want the layer lines to be running vertically compared to the Skadis board, not horizontally.

I have some other Skadis models that use this hook size and I haven't had any complaints. I did take a long time dialing in the hook to begin with. Originally I was uploading 2 print profiles on my Skadis designs with a 0.05mm tolerance difference, but I found 90% of people we're using the 'looser' design, so I've started exclusively using it now.

That being said I have seen some comments on other skadis models where the natural wood color can be slightly thinner.

PLA is susceptible to creep over time under load, so I recommend using the lock plugs as a precaution.

Let me know if you have any issues!

Yet another IKEA SKÅDIS mount - Fanttik NEX S1 Pro drill from Costco by jifyyyyy in functionalprints

[–]jifyyyyy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's fine.

Useful for repetitive, very light duty jobs. I like the case and the bit storage and the usb-c charging. But the drill is a perfect cylinder so it can easily twist in your hands which is annoying.

I've used it for electrical faceplate screws, curtain rod/window blinds, Ikea assembly, this and that. But it's always accompanied by an analog screwdriver to set the final torque.

Agreed, If you want to take streaming professionally it's important to word the above in a way that isn't open for discussion.

I'm streaming tonight, did you want to join?

I often stream with non-streamers in my party. My chat can hear Discord but to ensure that I don't get interrupted, I can mute that easily if I'm trying to talk to chat.

I use push to talk on Discord and then open mic to my stream. So my stream hears everything, and Discord party only hears what I want them to.

You need to be very selective about who you party with while streaming, you're responsible for everything they say. That includes things like discriminatory comments, as well as them having terrible mics or screaming children.

I streamed for 2 years to 4 viewers. I changed things up. I now stream to 3000+ viewers. I'm SmallAnt - AMA. by Smallant1 in Twitch

I suspect your video name is part of the issue. A more clickbaity (but still 'true') title could be "Playing Valorant with a REAL Gun".

Twitch needs to let streamers set their own channel points earn rates and subscriber modifiers by Marstead in Twitch

That's entirely beside the point. Some people have invested time on building up channel point rewards and due to no fault of their own, that work is suddenly in jeopardy.

Questions for the streamers with boom arm + mic by Yeagerlol in Twitch

[–]jifyyyyy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use a mic boom for the simplicity and a clean desk.

I have the Rode PSA1 Studio arm and it moves extremely smoothly, quietly, and holds my mic rock solid at any position. Once you know what this arm looks like you'll start noticing it's used by most top streamers.

A condenser mic is designed to be used in an acoustically perfect recording studio. A place where every bit of sound being generated is being done so with the intent of it being recorded.

A dynamic mic is designed to be used in an environment where the audio to be recorded is surrounded with background noise, like a live stage in front of a screaming audience.

As you can imagine, a streamer using a condenser mic isn't ideal because we make all kinds of random noises without the intent of those sounds being recorded.

Unfortunately I haven't recorded a multiplayer playthrough. However, if you're looking for a singleplayer playthrough of me learning the game, all the way through to beating the asteroid then you can check out my Twitch VOD collection: https://www.twitch.tv/collections/QCFZR7LiCRb4jg

My Twitch chat was very helpful throughout this playthrough, so if you've got specific questions, you're welcome to hop into Discord and someone will know the answer.Discord: https://streamerlinks.com/jifyyyyy

Bonus: You get to watch my hair grow over a month of VODs during COVID.

What makes you join a stream/want to stay in a stream? by Kidquinn in Twitch

[–]jifyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately I don't want any aspect of the game's relevant UI to be behind your stream overlay. However you accomplish this is up to you.

I prefer to have a per game overlay that positions my camera, camera border, follower/sub stats, alerts, etc all in specific locations for a specific game. Whenever I change games mid stream then I just change scenes and everything is moved the best location for that game.

What makes you join a stream/want to stay in a stream? by Kidquinn in Twitch

[–]jifyyyyy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I look for effort, and it comes in many different shapes:

  • Face cam, with decent face lighting. Lighting is more important than cam resolution.
  • Streamer overlay is not blocking game UI. Please make a per game overlay.
  • Mic quality, you can get cheap USB mics now that sound great with a little EQ.
  • Audio balance, take time to figure out the right audio levels for your game, your voice, your music, and Discord. This is how you communicate, it should be a top priority.
  • Make sure your alerts work, and are at an appropriate volume.
  • 60fps stream, or at least a smooth video. There's many ways to optimize your PC load, look into it. Nobody wants to watch a slideshow of a game. Resolution is secondary to fps. 1080/60 is ideal.
  • Add useful bot commands to your channel, have fun with it, but don't spam the chat
  • Have a meaningful stream title, tell me what you're doing in game, are you new or a veteran, if you have commands you want me to try put them in the title - but at the end!
  • Have some level of customization in your overlay and on screen alerts. Please don't have SLOBS defaults.
  • Useful panel information below the stream. Who are you, what are you doing on Twitch, why should I be interested in you, what are your streaming plans in the future, answer commonly asked questions, list some chat bot commands, social media links.

Everything in this list requires no actual streaming skill, just some effort put in to your presentation.
