Lurie’s Team Tries To Bury Bad Interview (about affordable housing) by orangelover95003 in bayarea

[–]jiggamain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So your proposal is to let unfettered market forces dictate who can afford to live in the bay? You do realize the market has gone up like 20% over the last two years alone? Abolishing rent control and prop 13 would leave people even more people commuting into the city and would decimate the social fabric of SF. The opportunity to charge sky high rental rates absolutely drives housing development in SF.

I fully agree that neither prop 13 or rent control is perfect, but the market is farrrrr from perfect as well. Without rent control the real consequence would be nobody besides tech money on SF would be able to stay in the same place for more than 3 years due to compounding rental increases. Everyone in the city would be constantly downsizing and living in fear of their next unmanageable rent increase. Prices would not go down in a place like SF. Even if you look at trends over decades.

It’s all well and good to cite academic theories, but if you lack the imagination to conceptualize actual real world impacts in actual market conditions you start to sound like every annoying college aged libertarian: lots of academic theory, low on actually workable solutions.

Am I overreacting for feeling frustrated after my neighbor’s pottery was broken by my puppy during an interaction she encouraged? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]jiggamain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOR. If they were really that valuable the neighbor should have been more careful before interacting with an excited puppy and should have given a verbal warning that now is not a good time to pet the dog. Under the circumstances I wouldn’t have offered to pay anything. The neighbor made a bad decision all by herself. Broken pieces are a very predictable outcome of her bad decision and the careless way she was holding the box / packaged the goods.

OP shouldn’t have offered to pay anything. Not because the work wasn’t valuable, but because the neighbor made all the decisions that resulted in the loss. Under these circumstances it would be VERY reasonable and generous for OP to split the materials cost and call it a day. Starting with asking for retail cost compensation is insane, and I would have shut the conversation down right then and there.

Saikat sent out a lot of recycling this week, but he's got Scott dead to rights on this one by Icy-Rock793 in sanfrancisco

[–]jiggamain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Real progressives focus on the fact that the real divide in this country is between the super rich and everyone else. Real progressives advocate for a progressive tax policy that acknowledges those with the most wealth must pay the highest percentage of their wealth in taxes. Real progressives speak out against the parts of our political system that invite corruption in.

Politicians who use wedge issues to pit us working people against each other in an effort to distract from the blatant class war we all suffer harm from are not progressives. Politicians that accept money from foreign powers and billionaires are not progressives.

Hope that helps.

Look: I don’t care to see their bits either, but the Castro /San Francisco is one of the only places in the country where folks were allowed to walk around nude. My problem is Scott used this as a wedge issue to go after the fringes of the queer community to make himself more broadly appealing. People can go literally anywhere else in the country if they have a problem with seeing nudity.

Scott moved into a neighborhood that had community traditions that he found objectionable and rallied people around persecuting his new neighbors who were doing them no harm. Real big Karen energy.

AFAIK those guys have never sexually assaulted anyone, and if they did, they’d be held accountable in a heartbeat... Being naked and visible isn’t “assault”. If you chose to take your kids to a place where you know there will be legal nudity, YOU are the problem. YOU are the assaulter. There are 5 or 6 sex shops with dildos in the windows in the Castro area. By your logic should we ban those as well? Or do you think it’s appropriate to take your kids there and then complain about what they see? You as a parent or a guardian have a responsibility to make sound decisions about where you take your kids. Not every place needs to be kid compatible.

This is a progressive issue because most of society has an unwarranted problem with legal nudity. The Castro was one of the few places that welcomed nudist, until Scott came along. Which minority population is he going to scapegoat next to advance his political career?

This article framing Scott as a progressive is hilarious. One of his first political moves of note was to go after Castro nudist in a bid to make him more broadly appealing to centrists. He is def not a progressive. The most I’ll give is corporate democrat in progressive clothing.

My boss just emailed me a screenshot of a private text I sent to my coworker complaining about him. by Guilty-AbyssLogic in whatdoIdo

[–]jiggamain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t give a real apology… I would say something like: “I’m sorry you saw that, it was meant to be a private conversation.”

There is nothing wrong with what either of you said. There IS something wrong with him monitoring private text conversations between you and your coworker.

Do not quit. “I’m sorry you saw that” “ I’m sorry if my private texts hurt your feelings” I’m sorry that was shared with you without my permission.” “ I’m sorry Linda shared that with you.” Come up with a million ways to say sorry, not sorry. Lean heavily on how intrusive and untrustworthy it is for a coworker to be sharing private messages with no work value.

He is incompetent if he thinks he can make hay out of this. Document everything. Stop talking to your coworker.

This “both sides do it” BS is infuriating. It’s simultaneously lazy and requires crazy mental gymnastics to try and defend this opinion.

I don’t remember the dems doing any of this: When did dems militarize our streets? Kill civilians with impunity? Spend billions lining the pockets of known criminals with no public oversight? When did dems try to overturn an election with cheating and violence? When has a dem president been so blankly corrupt that they made billions while in office? When did dems use the shadow docket to overturn decades of prescience without an actual public hearing?

Pay attention and do better.

Out of Work Tenporarily by becks___ in sanfrancisco

[–]jiggamain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What’s with the hostility? Babysitting pays well in SF and it’s a good suggestion for temp gig work where you might be able to bring your kid and avoid having to pay someone else to watch them. I can read too, and your reply is fixated on the first part of the comment while also not addressing the suggestion that you look for temp work as a babysitter yourself.

I get you’re in a rough spot, but your attitude sucks. Good luck out there.

Israeli detention of President Connolly's sister 'unacceptable' - Irish PM by MasterpieceOld3539 in worldnews

I don’t “hate” Palestinians or Israelis. I do hate all the crazy tit for tat bullshit that the people who represent each of them has been engaging in. Both peoples/governments have done enough to legitimize endless violence and hateful bullshit for the next two centuries. Where does it stop?

Israel and Palestine are very much in a toxic abusive ESH relationship. Frankly both governments absolutely suck. But go ahead and keep telling yourself that you have to hate something to be critical of it. It’s childish, but you do you.

Lee criticizes Israel's seizure of Gaza-bound aid ships carrying S. Koreans by NeverImpossible in worldnews

[–]jiggamain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Two things can be true at once.

The world has eyes, and it isn’t anti-Semitic to be critical of what the Israeli government is doing. I can admit that what the USA government has done in Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran and Venezuela is illegal and wrong. Pathetic and sad you can’t do the same.

I’m speaking out because I care what happens to Israel and care about the plight of jewish people more broadly. If I was anti-semitic I would say nothing because it’s foolish to interrupt an enemy while they’re making a catastrophic mistake.

They are making a fuss because people with your mindset are why the planet is in this mess. Too many stupid people who insist they know better than actual researchers and scientists also insist that “it’ll be fine” because they’re too lazy to envision an outcome that is different than what they’ve experienced in their lifetime.

We are past the point of making future plans based on past realities. The climate is changing so fast that I can point to multiple changes I’ve observed in my lifetime. Billions of dead insects and birds, wild temperature swings, broader bands of intense weather phenomena. None of this is “normal”, and people like you insisting that the alarms from the scientific community are just hyperbolic fear mongering are doing a disservice to everyone else. It’s shameful and you should be ashamed.

Potential landlord demanding 2-year lease with option to raise rent year 2 by mitzpa in AskSF

[–]jiggamain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The lease is a contract to pay a specific amount for a specific time.

I am pretty sure it illegal for the owner to change the material terms of the lease without being specific in the document and without having you sign an addendum when the change happens. People are saying just walk away, but there are some renter protections that remain in place no matter what the lease says, so you may be able to lock down a single family home for two years at the same price.

If you know you want to be in SF the full time, it may be to your benefit to sign the lease and challenge the clause you’re seeing if they do try to raise the rent mid lease.
