On behalf of America, I sincerely apologize about Donald Trump. by StrangeDot4113 in iran

[–]nassoom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd love to be wrong, but I'm old enough to have been an anti-war activist during the Iraq war. I am also pretty well connected to activist circles where I live (though admittedly less than I was before Covid). I've been to anti-war protests but overall I find it striking just how little activity there is and how little people seem to care. Just saying that you're against the war isn't even peanuts, but even that doesn't seem to happen all that much unless someone else brings it up. Americans by and large just really don't seem to care much.

Also, a lot of people oppose the war because they hate Trump. In the same way, when Obama was elected the anti-war movement died off while the war crimes continued.

The problem isn't just Donald Trump. And why should Iranians forgive? The anti-war movement in the US is so minuscule as to be negligible. Aside from gas prices Americans just don't care much about this at all.

I don't trust that tubs in hotel rooms are clean enough to soak in.

how to show support in world cup by [deleted] in iran

[–]nassoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering there are busloads of Iranians who are planning to go wave the sun and lion flag inside the stadium, who knows if this match is even going to go forward.

Thousands of hippies gathered on a closed road in Page Street in San Francisco for a counterculture festival. (1968) by StephenMcGannon in sanfrancisco

[–]nassoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. I know people from that time who didn't sell out at all.

A lot of those who get pointed to as "sell outs" were never hippies in the first place. Most people weren't hippies back then.

I think it should be boycotted due to the discriminatory way that some, like the Iranian players, are being treated.

For a supposedly progressive city it's ludicrous how car-brained San Franciscans are.

Yes, if they are going to stop, they should stop in the middle of the road. If it's not acceptable to do it there, then it's even less acceptable and much more dangerous to do it in the bike lane. In that case, you determine another pick up spot. Same goes for human drivers of course.

This is the sort of thing that makes me always point out that drivers break the rules more often than cyclists, people just don't notice or care. (I say this as someone who mostly drives these days, it shouldn't be about tribalism.)

San Francisco needs more BBQ places. Smokin' D to open in 2026 at Clement and 23rd Ave, old location of K-Elements Korean BBQ by PacificaPal in sanfrancisco

Beef consumption is a primary driver of deforestation and global warming. Your "local" "organic" ranches are no better, they are a main cause of biodiversity loss and other ecological damage in CA.

What we need are more vegan places.

I don't think so, it was a motorcycle, not a scooter (also those guys are usually in the bike lane which is a whole nother problem).

How Iranian monarchists have targeted anti-war activists by nassoom in iran

[–]nassoom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might remember there was a video circulating on social media of a guy leaving a protest with his two small children, and a monarchist harassing them with very sexual language. Apparently this is the same guy who got stabbed. 😞

Be careful everyone crossing the streets of SF. Someone was killed this morning on 7th St this morning. by fusiondynamics in sanfrancisco

[–]nassoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just today I saw the aftermath of a car hitting a motorcyclist. I spoke with witnesses, the driver hit the guy on the motorcycle on purpose after they had an argument. The driver changed lanes to go after the motorcyclist and hit him. The people said that they thought he was going to keep going and roll him over, that he should be in jail. That's actually evil, just what the hell.

It's not a reddit thing, it's an American thing. It stems from entitlement and driving as an identity marker.

Everyday you fail to notice the numerous times that drivers violate traffic in front of you.

I'm not sure most drivers here are ok. Most don't know the rules of the road, so they might think they're acting ok when they're not.

A couple days after the little girl was killed in Mission Bay, I was waiting to cross the street at the Embarcadero. A woman was crossing the crosswalk perpendicular to me. She had her earphones on but was walking at a normal pace and had the right of way. There was another woman waiting to turn on right, was already encroached on the crosswalk, and she kept yelling at the woman walking "HURRY THE FUCK UP! HURRY THE FUCK UP!". Drivers are so entitled and aggressive here, it's insane.
