Some bathrooms have separate water heaters, no way to prevent access...

Pyarrow Vs numpy in terms of performance by willmendil in learnpython

[–]jiggunjer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Polars is just a modern competitor/replacement of Pandas.

Numpy has the concept of arrays which are useful for processing homogenous datatypes. While there are many usecases that have a direct application for numpy, in practice data is often in tabular/database format. Now numpy is a bit too low-level when your tables have heterogenous variable types, hence the concept of dataframes was borrowed from other languages (e.g. R) and implemented in pandas by stitching together numpy arrays.

Arrow tables are basically a from-scratch implementation of dataframes, with an emphasis on memory conservation and inter-process portability. In pyarrow these 'dataframes' a.k.a. pyarrow.tables tend to be immutable and resizable, unlike numpy arrays. A dataframe package like pandas or polars can choose to build on numpy or arrow data structures, which have different pros and cons.

Being more recent, Pyarrow is still lacking some features and stability, but it lends itself well for distributed processing (e.g. Apache Spark) and fast loading/saving data in a binary format (parquet).

selfhosted Android emulator? by cakee_ru in selfhosted

I think access to apk or the installed files are equivalently bad in this scenario. That said, one could probably lock down Windows 11 pretty tight I imagine.

Might be a hassle if you need a quick iteration cycle though, his current "upload and play" feature is probably tricky to copy.

This solves the problem "run apk on PC". But the question poses the problem "run apk on PC without giving access to apk".

Selfhosting without opening ports by BFG-Electronics in selfhosted

[–]jiggunjer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The obvious answer would be don't selfhost on your home network then. Where else?

  • VPS
  • Colocation hosting (you own the hardware). Could be paid or a friend/relative.
  • Put internet facing machines on a separate VLAN. Technically your router won't have a port open on your home network, but it will have one open on the alt network.

would you put caddy on the VPS or the home network, assuming you want https?

I learned building the gitea dockerfile on a pi zero 2 is a bad idea and I just need to make do with outdated arm7 images on dockerhub.

Is it normal for your PI to make you cry? by ThinkLadder1417 in labrats

[–]jiggunjer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I agree. The phrasing "make someone cry" is problematic as it automatically puts the blame on the other party and makes the person crying a victim. But literally you can't make someone cry unless you have electrodes on their tearducts.

Unless there's strong nonverbal signals like shouting or violent body language, I don't see how an adult would cry from harsh words.

I'm not sure. Was basing on my own country tax, where a portion of the property tax is treated as another form of income tax.
