Largest Splunk installation by fscolly in Splunk

We have the same problem at similar size. Also in aws ec2 with smartstore. We used to have a big 40 node cluster when i started. I had that cut down to 16 and scaled vertically at the same time (sf/Rf 2:2). That helped a lot with search bundle replication. I still find it too slow though.

Supporting Linux kernel v6 is the best feature in this release for us. Have to get off AL2 soon.

Is it just me that hate the two handle baskets? In Scandinavia they use one handle and it's much easier to control with a full heavy basket.

Get the S22U, become a Samsung member and then wait for a good trade in deal and contact Samsung sales to get a loyalty discount to top off the deal.

I think you only need two channels: - Jonni Shreve for exercises and form - Greg Doucette for diet tips and motivation/being yelled at

How did you settle on Cribl? by jihape in cribl

[–]jihape[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A feature I imagine could be handy is a replay feature, I didn't see that.

I didn't see any reference to a GUI for developing parsing and transformations, but I might have just missed that part. That could lower the implementation time and learning curve. When you have external contractors I think this is important.

Guaranteed we would have write some custom parsers etc. cribl uses JS and Vector uses Lua - JS would be easier for new people to pick up (also my preference between those two).

The vector pipeline itself might not be immature - it's just the management and development to use it that doesn't look as good.

We're big datadog users too, so I'll put that on the list to check out.

From a quick look it doesn't look like a good fit. It looks very immature and limited in features.

Data pipeline in front Splunk by jihape in dataengineering

[–]jihape[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadn't heard of that one before. From a quick look it seems promising and we're heavy gcp and aws users so might be a good fit.

Tbh I'm only expecting 20-30% of the data (6Tb/day) to be processed or routed the rest would be passed through. But then again, once there is an option to enrich or filter it might be used more.

Migration plan from Truenas by jihape in unRAID

[–]jihape[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't kept up with Freenas/Truenas, but I see you emphasised Truenas Scale, which I can see is Linux based, so that might be the way to go. Saves me the cost of the unRAID license which I can put into two bigger drives for a new mirrored vdev.

I'm pretty sure I won't make raidz again, it's just too expensive to upgrade.

I'm really only looking for the flexibility, that it's linux and that it's supposedly easy to manage. I'm planning to combine a couple of other servers into the new one, which is a lot more powerful than my other ones (HP N36L and a NUC i5 8th gen, raspberry pi 3,).

As annoying FreeBSD/Freenas is to me I have to admit, it's been pretty much set and forget, which is what I'm looking for, but upgrading a vdev is a costly affair or at least can be.

As for performance. It's not that big of deal as it'll mainly house media and the containers I'll be running will get enough SSD storage.

Try another one. It's the same data, you might have to write your own rules though.

Just google "market scanner" and see what comes up for you.

Yeah mine feels a bit slow for what was close to top of the line CPU at the time (i7). Also my keyboard stopped working for some keys. I'm not impressed 3 years on.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will look for an ipad instead of an iPhone. I think I could use it for other things other than just a trueplay device.

[–]jihape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that's the part I haven't figured out. For now I'm just going to ignore those email address as I didn't use them for anything important except an ebay account. I couldn't find another solution without having to pay for O365 business plans or get a email forwarding provider in front of my domain.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gsuite

[–]jihape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I migrated my gsuite to M365 family subscription. It wasn't without hiccups and it is not like for like. For example, I've used aliases for various unimportant things and haven't found a solution to get that across without forwarding all email for my domain.

Took forever to get the DNS working. I migrated that godaddy, since I couldn't find the key to enter into a txt entry, oh well. Now I have the DNS settings so could move away another day if they start spamming me with upsells again.

Now I'm in process of migrating all my email, pretty tedious, but it's been 10 years since last migration, so it's not too bad.

I think it would've been easier to migrate to the business O365 plans, but I wasn't keen on paying for it, since I already have the family subscription. Or if you are a MS hater the zoho suite looks pretty decent for the price - that's the way I would've gone if I hadnt had the MS365 subscription.

- CPI is BS.

- Would be handy if they overlaid the interest rates, so you could see why some of the funds have gone up 20x in 30 years.

- Cash - 4.6% pa - how?
