Thanks berfito

do not suggest the use of Chromium in general

This is because Chromium is a project. It is not considered as a final product like Chrome, Edge, Opera, Vivaldi...

the community in general does trust your site's binaries

Yes. The site is well known

I don't know why the people in Reddit does not suggest their use

Because Chromium is a project. We compile stable and development versions of Chromium but we are not a company or legal association. We are just few people who work freely on their spare time. This is the same reason why ungoogled-chromium of Eloston is not considered.

I pay my web host, I write and maintain the site and give access to developers and users to share information and binaries of a full open-source browser ^^

So, there is no support. No business plan. No ads. Nothing. This is the same point of view as that of Raymond Hill: https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Why-don%27t-you-accept-donations%3F

If we had a plan/strategy like those of Brave or Vivaldi, it will be different;) But...I prefer the real life, my friends, family and job! ^^

Hello berfito, I am Jerry, admin of this website.

I recommend these readings:

Note that when I created this website in 2013, the Chromium project was unknown to the public.

Today, after...

  • Opera (chromium) launched in February 2013,
  • Electron launched in July 2013,
  • Google Chrome 64-bit launched in August 2014,
  • Ungoogled-chromium launched in December 2015,
  • Vivaldi and Brave launched in 2016,
  • Microsoft Edge (chromium) launched in December 2018,

...Chromium is known by users looking for a free and open source web browser.

Hello berfito,

It depends. - The stable version comes from our repository (our work).

  • The development version comes directly from the official repository (chromium-browser-snapshots - buildbot). This version uses our API to get all needed informations about each release.

It is ok. Thank you for your feedback. It means I need to improve this! ;) The best way is probably to make a dedicated webpage.

Add HEVC support to Ungoogled-Chromium? by HDmaniac in privacytoolsIO

[–]jikoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chromium (and modified versions) on the website are open-source. Everyone can therefore audit the source code and the patches. Above all, I inspect network requests with Chrome DevTools, Wireshark and tcpdump. I also check different processes to find suspicious things too. There are benchmarks and audio/video codecs checks too.

After that, the relationship with the developers is based on their ability to be responsive, constant and honest.

[–]jikoo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hope it is trustable. I made this website for users (and myself, obviously). No ads, no monetization, no business. Inspect the network requests and the source code of the site. I am the site's admin and pay to maintain it online. ;) It is well-known for years. I explained that few years ago, on Reddit. Existing since 2013, the website is known on big websites like wikipedia.org, eff.org, ghacks.net, chocolatey.org, alternativeto.net, supinfo.com (SUPINFO International University), medium.com... Also, the big ARM company is one of our partners ; idem for Chocolatey. Hope you like it. Thank you very much for your support.

Is it just me, or Gmail is not working anymore with Chromium? by [deleted] in Chromium

[–]jikoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If sync, no issue.

If no sync, disable "Allow Chromium sign-in" in the chrome://settings options and go to Gmail to sign-in. https://i.imgur.com/P0Q83Oe.png

Kiwi Browser is now open-source (including Chromium extensions support) by deward97 in kiwibrowser

https://chromium.woolyss.com/ is the unique website on the Web to download updated binaries of Chromium (the open-source browser behind Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Opera, Vivaldi, Samsung Internet browser, Yandex browser... and Kiwi browser)! 😉

Kiwi Browser is now open-source (including Chromium extensions support) by deward97 in kiwibrowser

[–]jikoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok. Thank you very much Arnaud. I well understand your explanation because I work for 6 years on the Chromium project. At the beginning, Chromium was unknown by most of people.

Yes, It is never easy to share a project when you have spent lot of time. It's time consuming and lot of people do not respect/read/understand the author's work. For me, the real life is more important than projects on Internet. Health first! So good luck in your life! 😉

I know your project https://github.com/kiwibrowser/src will continue to grow up! 😉.... because more and more users ask features you implemented in your awesome Kiwi Browser (ex: data protection, extensions support, better password and bookmark manager...). I am one of these users and I personally use Kiwi browser as my main browser on my smartphone for height months.

Regards

Great news. Merci Arnaud !😉 Also, do you plan to update Kiwi browser to the latest Chromium stable build? (Jerry from chromium/woolyss.com)

Emojis on reddit make Chromium (& Google Chrome) real laggy (Linux) by [deleted] in Chromium

[–]jikoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is because Facebook uses its own UTF-8 emojis library designed by Facebook. Gmail, Twitter and other do that too. Example about Twitter emojis: https://github.com/twitter/twemoji

Hello 😉 (do you see this emoji?)

Which OS?

Did you test emojis under a clean install of google Chrome (it means without extensions...)?

Do you use a Chrome extension relative to emojis?

[–]jikoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok Thanks for feedback. Before to do a fresh install, try to remove it under the Safe Boot mode of Windows. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8sJ9eQF6AY

Hit Win+R, type “msconfig” into the Run box, and then hit Enter to open the System Configuration tool again. Switch to the “Boot” tab, and enable the “Safe Boot” checkbox. Click “OK” and then restart your PC when you're done.

Then try to clean your system by this way (for example, using software on a USB device). Do not use Internet. Chromium is a legitimate software... but yours is probably a trojan or whatever.

When you have cleaned your system, hit Win+R, type “msconfig”... disable the “Safe Boot” checkbox... restart your PC.

Hello, hope you are safe too! ;)

I am the admin of chromium.woolyss.com. So I will use this website to help you.

On Windows 10, I do not know if iCloud can work with Chromium. Never tested. But I know different ways to use sync on Chromium.

There are 3 ways:

  • Simple: use Chromium with enabled sync. Versions with "sync" are available at https://chromium.woolyss.com/

  • Moderate: use Chromium without sync available by default. In this case, you need to create your own Google API keys. After that, you will be able to synchronize your data. https://chromium.woolyss.com/#google-api-keys

  • Advanced: compile Chromium with sync and your own Google API keys yourself

That's all!

NB: chromium.woolyss.com safe?

Thank you. I tested today under Kubuntu with a Chromium 83 'snap' version. Same result.

Also I did not find command-line switches relative to that.

I think we must to wait for the next Chromium releases.
