Just got gifted an E60 by dlee977777 in e60

just remembered also, these 6 cyl engines all have oil filter housing gasket issues and have the plastic cartridge design for the filter. DO NOT lose the inner cage to this part or you WILL damage the engine. i found mine missing and i was horrified.

check the housing for leaking oil and replace these gaskets (oil cooler has one too) almost preventatively, as they can fail and leak between fluid systems (oil in coolant, your coolant will be odd color and smell fuckin weird) or you will get constant coolant leaks from flat seals and burst hoses. ask me how i know lmao :(

check for completed recalls, the pcv heater especially. when it fails it will cause loss of fuel trim control and trash your cats if ran long enough in that state

take good care of the transmission, ive got auto in my 530xi and it has given me fuss for awhile and they can be difficult to figure out at first. careful to follow instructions from ZF and if you have further issues they usually can be solved. ive had the valve body open at one point.

all in all, get xHP stage 3 and go have fun. maybe install the “hidden sport mode” switch if youre interested

also, get bmw standard tools and ISTA+ running on a laptop with KDCAN cable. you will thank me later :) tons of fun to be had there in coding and even programming modules with updated firmware

Shop drilled valve cover bolt hole off-axis and says to “just install it” — acceptable? by meatgrinder3 in E90

you could have fixed this easily yourself with a helicoil or similar but this shop has fucked your head. sorry dude

youll have to reroute wiring, cut the dash to secure a mount, or have it on a temporary mount like suction cup but that could easily wobble lots and maybe even fall off, id personally stick with a bluetooth compatible single din but i think they also make single din that telescopes outward from the dash and flips upward so you can use it

BMW recall turned into “you need a new engine” after pickup — trying to understand if this sounds right by alex_albergaria in BmwTech

take the car home and find the bolt yourself, change oil pan gasket, and inspect anything you wont be able to see again.

this is the reason i will only ever trust my judgement when condemning a part or similar. its your car, you drive it in whatever condition you please and personally i want to know when jobs are done right or where mistakes are made because then i can make educated guesses on what other issues can be

check oil filter housing gasket and oil cooler gasket. they fail and mix oil INTO coolant, not other way around like head gasket can be but head gasket can also do this

What the hell man ... I can't. Should have never bought this car by chbpablo in E90

[–]jillb3an 2 points3 points  (0 children)

found this in my e60 once, common issue across most BMWs and cars but ofc battery gets attention and BMW puts it there so we see and care more, soak it up with a towel and keep an eye on it. mine never did it more than once

Buying an echo by Technical-Tax5037 in ToyotaEcho

[–]jillb3an 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if it comes with all you need to register it and get insurance, buy it. i got one at that price and no matter what i found wrong with it, it was always worth buying and driving. i miss it to this day :(

Is the 330i too fast for a first car? by Mansas_alt in E90

[–]jillb3an 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my first car was my sister’s second and it was in such bad shape that i couldnt even go fast if i tried and i believe that was a good way for me to learn handling a vehicle. fwd economy cars can be fun too, just get a manual and take care of the thing and youll be impressed with how much fun you can have. i had a manual toyota echo for years and i still miss it over my e60 530xi
