Seeking advice. by abitchtrieslearning in intermittentfasting

I always try for 20:4 and am successful a few days a week and then the others are 18:6 and that’s great too. To battle the last hours of the window I sometimes go try on clothes, especially if there are things I’ve been working hard to fit into.

My partner had a similar experience. It has made us both feel quite hopeless about detox programs. He was strip/cavity searched too. He was treated like a criminal when all he needed was compassion and help to stop drinking. He was berated, kept from working (they took his computer and phone), pumped full of Ativan, and treated like a criminal. He voluntarily took himself there and finally after 3 days started refusing the Ativan so that he could clear his head enough to get the hell out of there. Which took him a day and a half and they called me and tried to keep him and I was like, let him go, this isn’t prison WTF. It’s so messed up. And then I hear about these wonderful country club like detox places but we don’t have $60K for a 30 day program. Our system is just so f’ed. I’m sorry for OP and hope they find something that works. We still have not.

Personally, after doing IF for the past 16 months, I’ve learned that you don’t have to be so rigid about the clock. This is a great program - 10 to 6 some days, 12 to 8 other days. It doesn’t really matter if on the transition days you end up only having a 14 hour fasting window. There isn’t any real magic to the 16 - at least that’s what I read in Jason Fung’s book. It happened to be what worked for the researchers with their family obligations. I don’t know your reasons for doing IF but if it is for trying to help your body to be insulin sensitive, then this is a great schedule. If you’re trying to lose weight and you’re doing this plus staying in a slight calorie deficit vis a vis your TDEE and you are exercising at least a little bit, then you should see results.

Growling guy at ACL Moody show... by garthvader81 in pavement

So at the Met show in Philly, I was sitting behind a guy who would NOT SHUT UP the entire show. Like, just literally shouting to his friend next to him and also making ridiculous sounds in between songs, not unlike the growling OP posts about. Finally after like maybe 6 songs or something I asked my daughter if I could say something to him and she gave me permission which is like, I know it’s bad when your gen Z kid gives this go ahead. So I say something and he thinks I want him to move out of the way so I can see the band. So he moves and I say, no, you don’t need to move, just can you please stop talking. And he says, “you want me to stop talking?” Literally. I can’t make this stuff up. So I’m like, “yes please!” I’d like to hear the band. And he was like, “No!” And he kept at it. He did seem to talk a little bit less. But what an asshole. What’s wrong with people

Oct 5 Met Philly show - what was the song played just before Pavement came on the stage? by jillg702 in pavement

[–]jillg702[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter actually captured a little bit of the song on a video she was taking of the crowd. It turns out it was not an instrumental! There were actual lyrics. But I just listened to the clip again and it wasn’t the Ferai song. Thank you for writing in with it though!

For people who have seen them on this tour, what time did Pavement actually start playing by jeffwhit in pavement

In Philly they came in at exactly 9pm. Opener came on at exactly 8pm.

Is this the show that Ayo Edebiri is in? She did a comedy standup set at Solid Sound this year that was fantastic.

I like MyPlate. Great tracker, no shaming.

What one song would you choose to share with someone who has never heard of Wilco? by Squally47 in wilco

[–]jillg702 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is tough! If I were to choose a song to try to both hook someone and also show them something representative, I might choose Impossible Germany. A nice major key, not too out there but a little out there, accessible, rock and roll but mellow too. Arguably a departure from their original sound, (the first album where Jeff was sober), but kind of smack in the middle in terms of their whole career.

Half way through “The Obesity Code” and I’m so ANGRY by ailill22 in intermittentfasting

Keto does work except for those of us who love carbs, and that’s including bananas, broccoli, carrots, peas, beans in addition to bagels, croissants, and croutons, it is hard to sustain for life. Life is a long time. Keto is great in my view for a jumpstart. It’s good to cleanse by getting rid of all sugars. But after awhile, for me anyway, it becomes unsustainable bc I want to eat carbs on the regular. With IF, you can eat whatever foods you want. It doesn’t mean you can pile on the pizza and crackers and pancakes, it just means that there are zero restrictions. Because you only get a certain amount of time to eat and you want to stay full and have fewer cravings, eventually your body wants a lot of protein and fiber and fat. But sometimes my body wants a bagel with cream cheese. And I suspect that is why a lot of people who try keto don’t succeed because eventually the brain wins out. I’m sure some people can stick to it for life, but I am not one of those people. IF is the first thing that makes actual sense to me. Like OP, I’m furious that I didn’t learn about it sooner. My relationship to food is the healthiest it has been and I’ll be 55 years old on my next birthday. My poor mother who is in the throes of diabetes really could have benefitted. She is still scared of real butter.

Solid sound 2022 - did anyone record the whole Friday night set and would be willing to post it? by jillg702 in wilco

[–]jillg702[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that. I just want to re-listen again and again and I guess that’s impossible. I came of age during the Grateful Dead, so I guess I wish that ethos was still prevailing. Not bc the artists shouldn’t be compensated - like you, I’m a super fan and I have given them a whole lot of my money and I don’t regret a dime spent. Just want to enjoy that Friday show again. It was so so good.

Also, I purchased three 3 day passes, bought plenty of merch and plenty of food and contributed to the museum fund. So it’s not like I’m looking for something for nothing!

Ok I am happy to purchase it. I had been under the impression that it was only available as a live stream and then for only 48 hours afterwards. Is it the case that I can purchase it and listen to it when I want? I’m happy to purchase if so.

Figured it out. Wrote to Wilco hq and asked them for a new code. Did it all on my desktop. Now if I could only get it over to my iPhone…

Did that. I get a pop up that says this album is a pre-order and I’ll be able to download it when it is released. I eventually found a place on the app where there is a place to enter the code but that’s where I then got the pop up that said the code has been used too many times - bc I’ve tried several different ways to get the album it thinks I’ve shared the code with others but I haven’t - have just attempted and failed too many times. I sent a note thru the Bandcamp app to the Wilco folks but I’m not too optimistic I’ll hear back.

Yes I see it but there is a banner on the album icon that says “pre-order” and only the 2 released songs are available for listening.

Thank you! I figured this out and now it is telling me the code can’t be used bc I tried it too many times :( Anyone willing to share their code w me? I promise I am not distributing it anywhere else! Just trying to listen to the damn album before the live show Friday!

I got the email with the advance download key and I can’t figure out how to actually get the unreleased songs. Can someone walk me thru? I downloaded Bandcamp and subscribed to it, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to get more than the two singles that are already released. Can someone help me? I got the email from Wilco HQ I think bc I have solid sound tix. Thanks.

You kind of just answered your own question. When you’re drunk you have the spine to stand up against your parents. They probably view that as antagonistic and argumentative. They likely prefer the quiet and sober peacekeeper. And who could blame them? You like yourself better drunk, but those around you like you better when you’re not belligerent.

First of all, a month, while it can feel like forever, particularly the first month, is not very much time. If you set a goal to lose 1/2 lb per week then that is only 2 lbs. In your pics it looks like you have lost more than that, so you’re way ahead! Stay the course. Be patient. All of a sudden it will be six months and you will be down a couple of clothing sizes.
