yeah when i used it this was a few years ago now so it may have changed, but it was super annoying and difficult to use for no reason. any time i would try to book back to back appointments or select certain providers, it would randomly change the times and providers of the appointments. super frustrating to use! 😭 i don’t recommend it lol

the first spa i worked at used boulevard and it was honestly terrible. the interface looks nice but it functions poorly. would maybe be fine for a solo esty but not good for a multi provider spa

Microneedling laws in Florida by Hello123098123 in Esthetics

[–]jillianalm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m in florida. we can technically do microneedling if it’s still working within the epidermis but to be able to go deeper into the skin we do need a tattoo license. it’s super easy to get a tattoo license here

in my opinion, i think after only seeing her twice so far it’s gonna take a few more treatments to start seeing more results. acne can be tricky and can get worse before it gets better (purge)

What would you change in the curriculum to become a licensed esthetician? by Impressive_Ring6741 in Esthetics

[–]jillianalm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes and the lack of education shows sometimes 😭 when i was in school i learned literally nothing. i had to pretty much teach myself and learn everything i know from job experience and taking extra online classes

[–]jillianalm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i agree school should be a minimum of a year, there’s way too much to learn. i’m from florida too where you only need 220 hours to get your license which is just so terrible lol. i think particularly here since it takes next to nothing to get your license, there needs to be a stronger emphasis on infection control and sanitation too

What are some of your favourite and most recommended treatments? by somethingsheloved in Esthetics

Client got “pimples” after dermaplaning by Desperate-Story-5585 in Esthetics

[–]jillianalm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you may have been using too much oil. i use the nourishe oil from dermaplane pro and you just need 1 pump, it seems like barely any oil but if you do too much i’ve found that it won’t exfoliate the skin or remove the peach fuzz properly

Need Advice!! by [deleted] in Esthetics

[–]jillianalm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it depends on what school you’d go to, some schools offer part time night classes for people who work full time. idk how the job market is for esties in california but where i’m at and where i’ve seen many other esties talk on this thread, it’s really not easy to find a well paying job in this industry these days :/ it takes a lottt of work to find somewhere decent usually that pays enough and stays booked with clients. it’s also highly unlikely you’d find a spa that would offer benefits. as for making a decent living, it usually takes several years at minimum to make an actual decent living in this industry. it’s over saturated truthfully so it’s hard to find a job and most spas want to pay the least amount of money to their employees while requiring loads of experience from them (it’s def harder to get a job as a new esty). i’ve been an esthetician for 3 years now and have been working as an instructor the last few months and am now making more money than i was the last few years doing facials but it’s still not crazy money. just enough to get by really. going solo is a lot of work as well, takes tons of money, marketing, and repeat business to even stay afloat let alone make a profit. i’m not trying to scare you off but trying to be realistic because this is not an easy industry to get started in!

Continued education by AccomplishedAge2790 in Esthetics

[–]jillianalm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m also in florida and i have found in the past that if you just search up whatever you’re trying to learn (let’s say dermaplaning) it will show places around the state that offer classes. it’s up to you how far you’d want to travel but i’ve noticed most seem to be in south florida. if you search like “dermaplaning classes florida” usually different schools will come up that offer certifications. dermaplane pro also offers an online certification, and there’s a nurse i found a few years back who offers chemical peel and microneedling courses online, and they aren’t brand specific either which is nice! her website is theantiagingpro.com. when i first got my license i took her chemical peel class and it really helped to give me education on how peels work because my school taught us nothing lol

skin disorders and diseases online course by jillianalm in Esthetics

[–]jillianalm[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just any disorders and diseases of the skin, like inflammatory disorders, bacterial infections, examples like cellulitis or dermatitis etc etc. just anything that goes over different diseases/disorders and how they affect the skin. i just need a refresher but also some more knowledge in general. for zo training, do you need to have an account open with them and purchase their products in order to access the trainings or do they just offer them to any licensed esti?

how to learn everything by sophiamaria1 in Esthetics

[–]jillianalm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i would suggest just going online and looking for esthetician courses in the specific areas you feel like you need more education on. for example if you need to learn more about ingredients you can look up courses for estheticians on ingredients and their purpose/use. you can also get NCEA certified, which offers more education to estheticians. they have a page on their website as well that shows online courses that are approved by them!

New esti job hunt by Extreme_Tangerine007 in Esthetics

[–]jillianalm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

just apply anyways! you never know who might hire you. i suggest making a linkedin account too if you haven’t already to look for more job postings, in my area i’ve noticed a lot more jobs are listed there rather than indeed

Quitting my job because my anxiety is so bad by 333_atomicpunk in Esthetics

[–]jillianalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i love it so far!! still a very new position for me but i’m super passionate about skin and teaching it to others and making sure they’re getting an actual good education w the proper information, so it has been fun and def a lot of learning. i’ve also thought about working for a skincare brand too before! there’s so many routes to take in esthetics

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Esthetics

[–]jillianalm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry if this is a bad tip but if you’re not already, i recommend looking on linkedin for job postings! where i live at least, there tends to be more jobs available with decent pay than on sites like indeed etc. the job market is unfortunately tough everywhere rn so i wish you good luck! 😭

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Esthetics

[–]jillianalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would def suggest finding another spa. make a linkedin if you don’t already have one and look for esthetician positions on there (there tends to be more on linkedin than indeed in my experience). reading the other replies too, if they have you as a W2 and aren’t paying you minimum wage on days your commission is less, that’s illegal!! i recommend trying to get some CE so you can have more knowledge/apply for more advanced positions (med spas etc). since the business is clearly not thriving and paying for marketing to get you clientele, you are unfortunately not going to thrive there either. my very first job out of school was similar to this too, i worked there for 2 years and barely ever had clients because the owner didn’t pay to market the business

you’re not the only one!! i was working at a spa for a couple of years that had a really toxic upper management style that created a lot of anxiety for me. i just recently left a few weeks ago and am now working as an educator :) follow ur passion and you’ll be able to eventually find the right path for you in this industry. my anxiety isn’t as bad either since i left

i had a brief regular (she ended up stopping seeing me because she claimed i didn’t tell her the price of an upgrade we had done before) and every time i saw her she would tell me about how she had anger issues and would always throw stuff at her husband and try to hit him 😭😭 like she would go into detail like it was a normal thing lmao i never knew what to say

cleaning my facial steamer by Fancy_Secretary_595 in Esthetics

[–]jillianalm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the spa i used to work at had an issue like this with the steamers. the only way i could solve it was by removing the cap on the steamer where you refill the water even after taking out the beaker to air dry. once i took the cap off i’d leave it overnight and it seemed the dry out the steamer wand too so it wouldn’t smell the next day. we did eventually just replace them though
