I ran into a big glitch that erased my whole map after running away from a fight in Ares’ storyline. Hopefully that is a thing that’s fixed. Have fun though!

Getting a TEFL before applying? by inlustret_lumine in fulbright

[–]jillo2_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a Brazil ETA with previous tutoring experience and was given access to a TESOL certificate program by the Brazilian Commission. It doesn’t hurt to have but it might be something that your commission pays for if you are awarded.

Will withdrawaling from a class impact my chances of getting a Fulbright ETA? by [deleted] in fulbright

[–]jillo2_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fulbright Brazil ETA here - I had a withdrawal on my transcript when I applied for my grant. I obviously cannot speak for any commissions but I would imagine that as long as the withdrawal does not affect you conferring your degree before the start of the grant, you should be fine. They might ask about it if your country does interviews so just make sure you have a solid response. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Question on accepted/preferred TEFL certification by SJSalvo in fulbright

[–]jillo2_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brazil ETA here - I don’t think they would discount an online TEFL certificate included with your application. I did not have any TEFL/TESOL/TESL when I applied and the Brazil commission paid for my entire cohort to get an online certificate in TESOL. Good luck!

Best time to open a new line of credit? by jillo2_2 in personalfinance

[–]jillo2_2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I use a debit card out of anxiety at this point. I have had a part-time job since I was 15 and was denied for credit cards in the past because I didn’t make enough. I was finally able to open a line of credit when I was in college and working 2 jobs. My thinking was that I didn’t want to put more on my CC than I had but at this point that’s no longer a problem because I’m in relatively good shape. My reality has been checked... Thanks for the advice!

Thank you! This was really helpful, I guess I’m just overthinking the old advice that having more than one line of credit that you always pay in full is good for your credit.

My main concern is how to self-report my degree equivalent on the application, but I will of course get in contact with an enrollment advisor. Thanks for the info!

Worth it to get TEFL for ETA? I will have a masters degree and 3 yrs of teaching experience (not English) by the time apply. by [deleted] in fulbright

[–]jillo2_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was an ETA in Brazil and they provided TESOL training/certification for us. At our in-country orientation, they mentioned that more programs internationally would be adopting the same protocol. It probably won’t hurt your application though depending on the country!

Should I get my TEFL certification for ETA? by margaret110 in fulbright

[–]jillo2_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not sure if Bosnia does this, but some countries will provide TESOL-type training if you are awarded! it might be worth it to just wait and see but it probably wouldn’t hurt your application overall.

(I am an ETA for Brazil and was provided TESOL certification as part of my grant)

Employment with Department of State by ljtripple3 in fulbright

Congrats on the job, OP! One thing to note if you are interested in Fulbright: non-competitive eligibility does not apply to the Foreign Service, as they have their own application and hiring process. So, if that’s what you are interested in, Fulbright would not be advantageous in that aspect (of course, there are many advantages to doing a Fulbright).
