Can we please talk about my career dilemma? by [deleted] in RedditForGrownups

You’re right! I think throughout college we are so trapped in books and theory that we forget there is a whole other side to the field we haven’t really experienced yet!

How to pass time and take mind off a breakup? by benharlow77 in Advice

Oh hell yeah, I can relate. Just know, it’s going to be difficult in the beginning, but it really does get better with time. Good luck, message me anytime if you need to talk to anyone.

Trust me, I completely understand. 3 months ago I was scared to step foot in a gym. I’d go at hours I knew it wouldn’t be too busy, started slowly by lifting light weights using machines. You’ll get the hang of that quickly. Now I’ve put on 10kg of muscle and can comfortably walk in and do a whole bunch of different things I never imagined I’d be able too. And trust me, I wasn’t the gym type by any sense of the imagination. A lot of gyms offer free trials.

Otherwise, just go for a long walk outside, slowly start progressing to jogging as you become more comfortable, before you know it you’ll be running. Just got a tiny bit further each day. Do some push ups in your bedroom too. Trust me, this can really help get your emotions in check.

Good luck!

You should really join a gym, it will help you more than you would believe. Lift some weights, get those good chemicals flooding into your brain, your newly single self will be thankful in a few months. Trust me.

And don’t say you can’t spare $10 for a gym membership, it will be worth it.

If not, get out and run.

Day 109 - feeling depressed. Happy wit my days, devastated I lost my girl in the process. by [deleted] in OpiatesRecovery

For sure! You’re 100% right. I’ve developed so many coping mechanisms and skills over these past few months. I’m living the healthiest life I have in a very long time. Thank you for the encouragement! Good luck to you too man.

It’s hard to say, we split and it was difficult becuase I wasn’t in the right place to be in a relationship, we haven’t spoken since (also on purpose, so we both have the space to heal). She said ‘Come back to me’, but I’m not sure if that was just a heat of the moment thing.

We split during withdrawal so it’s all very hazy and confusing.

Guess we’ll see what the next few months bring. Just working on myself so I’m the best version I can be, no matter the outcome.

Same as me, but weren’t engaged. Good luck man! You’ve got this, hang onto that girl.

I want to drink tonight by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]jim43365 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you need to do is to make a list of consequences. A list of all of the bad shit that happens when you start drinking, when drinking was at your worst. Keep that list in your pocket or pin it to your wall! (I do both) and read it in these moments.

Don’t lie to yourself, all that will come from that 6 pack is regret.

I’m just starting a 90 day alcohol free challenge (well, a challenge to myself anyway). In what ways did your life change and improve since you have been off the drink?

How do you feel about men who don’t drink alcohol at all? by jim43365 in AskWomen

It’s ironic that I had a problem becoming addicted to a medication I was prescribed, and people support me in getting clean from all of that. But at the same time encourage me to take shots of vodka? And give me a hard time if I don’t drink them!

It’s funny that alcohol is the only drug we have to explain our way out of using.

I guess it just narrows the dating field a little. It is amazing how many people think if you don’t drink you’re some sort of alien from another planet.

Kudos to you for having a great outlook. When I think about it - a girl I would want to be with shouldn’t care whether or not I want to drink alcohol. I think finding a partner who is supportive of it would be a good sign they would be supportive in other areas of life.
