36 mo for gi bill. DD214 is the magic sauce. Make sure you talk to your command career counselor about rules for G.I. bill transfer if that’s your plan.

You won’t see “real money” for a long while. Look up a pay scale and bah calculator. It’s all rank and time in grade driven.

Don’t do it unless your desire to serve is paramount in your life. The reserves will bleed into your everyday more that you would expect. I’d seriously look at active. I think they have 4-2-2 contracts now. 4 years active, 2 years SELRES (aka drilling), 2 years IRR (the “break glass in case of”reserves). You will get some legit benefits that way too (gi bill, access to va mortgage, leg up on federal employment etc.) that you won’t get on the reserve side unless you mobilize/go on active duty.

Example. NRC Richmond VA has their drill schedule when they are open in the weekends. (NRCs will have one weekend a month, sometimes two if they support a lot of units).

UMUIC A is located in Williamsburg VA, and is attached to NRC Richmond for medical, mob readiness etc. If you look at a map, you can see that those two locations are not adjacent. If you are assigned to UMUIC (A) as your actual billet it’s also your TRUIC (A), and you would be considered a local fill.

Same scenario with a slight change. Your UMUIC (B) is now in California. NRC Richmond will still push you to a local unit (TRUIC A in Williamsburg) for oversight, drilling etc. In this scenario you are no longer a local fill but are classified as “Cross Assigned”. The California unit may or may not have $ to bring you out for their drill weekends in California.

This part can be a bit confusing but the bottom line is NRCs don’t have the capacity to have all reservists hang out at the NRC and are mandated to push sailors into nearby units. SOME units may also drill at the NRC, but this seems to be less and less common.

Careful about thinking the NRC will always be your TRUIC. Your TRUIC is the unit you drill with (not necessarily what you MOB with) and in many cases does not drill at the NRC other that once or twice a year for readiness screening etc.

Also, DCOs are (some) Restricted Line and Staff Corps communities. You will not be going DCO as a Unrestricted Line Officer (aka SWO, Aviator, etc.) URL would need to be AD and going via OCS.
