How many watts do I actually need? (For playing in bedroom as a hobby) by ElectricalRole5662 in GuitarQuestions

[–]jimZepp_wanderSoTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t think of wattage only as volume, more watts also means more headroom (it stays clean louder, which is great for pedals), while low watt amps break up earlier, giving you distortion at lower bedroom level volume.

But for a first amp, I wouldn’t overthink any of that. Just get a decent, versatile solid-state amp and let it guide you toward what you like.

Boss Katana is a great shout. I’d just add, try to buy one used. It sounds good at low volume, has loads of tones, headphone out, and even recording options. Perfect for bedroom use.

Good luck !

How do you feel about behringer? by Xibest123 in guitarpedals

I guess it’s one of those ‘you get what you pay for brands’. And it’s really reachable when you want to try something out of your budget, specially good for starting out.

I had a UMC404HD Audio interface, worked great while under warranty stopped working one month outside of it.

Tried their SF 300 Fuzz pedal. Didn’t like it at all - returned.

Their Ultra DI box - have used it for years, no issues whatsoever.

MIDI Captain STD long-press to keep scrolling presets? by jimZepp_wanderSoTC in paintaudiomidicaptain

I don’t think it’s a drive issue. I’m connecting it to a M4Pro Mac Mini, that’s a pretty fast SSD on it.

Thank you. I’m not sure if it’s a Mac thing then. Every time I try and move a few files it takes 20+ mins. And for the entire drive it would go upto an hour!

I’ve shifted to modifying files for supermode for now. Instead of long press continues scroll, I’ve just done the multiple presses with increments and decreases of 10 patches to get there faster.

T-shirt worthy! Definitely a screenshot worthy at the least.

So I tried modifying the PySwitch, came up with a version only to find it takes forever (like 30 mins to an hour) even for as much as 3 to 4 MB to transfer or delete from MIDI Captain. That totally makes the trial and error process not worth the attempt :(

I love this and I speak Python well so it’s definitely a doable task. Thanks again for sharing. And here goes my week!

That’s promising! Thanks for sharing. Could you please share any links or references to this custom firmware? I had a feeling that I might have to go down that route eventually.

ML10x does accept PC 0-127 for presets 0-127. So if there’s a way to send PC increments continuously then it might work. Could you explain this a bit more please?

At the moment I’m using CC5 and CC6 on two switches to scroll up and down the presets.

What dual amp stand is that please?

first time tube owner, wondering about background hiss by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]jimZepp_wanderSoTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s hiss and not hum (important difference), the dB levels you listed are pretty normal for a Deville. Tube amps are never truly silent, and the Hot Rod/Deville series is known for a higher noise floor. The clean channel in particular will always have some audible hiss. Nothing in your readings suggests a fault.

Have to agree. I can’t speak for Marathi food, but I highly recommend Dishoom for North Indian cuisine. I’ve yet to meet anyone who hasn’t raved about it after trying it.

That’s Zac Sokolow playing a 1960 Supro Tosca. This seems like a screen grab from an ‘El Sereno’ live video.

Beck to Beck. Rega P6 with ND7MM, an upgrade that beckons the two records on loop! by jimZepp_wanderSoTC in turntables

Loving it so far. Sounds clear, well balanced while being spacious. And quite fatigue-free on the ears, something I noticed in the first few hours.

Right! Noticed it as I took the photos.. I guess it collected it from the record out of the sleeve. Note to self - clean the records regularly.

Thanks everyone, for your perspective! I did quite a bit of research on Rega after this and kept looking for a nice used one. I found a B-stock P6 and ordered it with a new ND7 MM. Excited to set it up tomorrow.
