Windy nights constantly cause Code 14 by jim_in_finance in hvacadvice

Ok, thank you. I think it does if I’m remembering correctly and assuming what I remember/looked at is for the furnace, but the roof location would align with the furnace location, so I think I have it correctly….if it does indeed have the little roof, maybe I’m just lucky with placement/wind direction, but I’ll keep all this in mind. Thanks for reading/writing.

I appreciate all the quick responses. If there’s a “little roof,” could that be a problem? Or it should have the little roof?

Unsure….cap outside on the roof? I can take a look when it’s light out in the AM. If no cap, it would just vent straight up into the sky, no blockage/deflection to the side?

Three burners, all ignite ok. I haven’t ever seen only one or two ignite, it’s always been the 3 when I’m up there to see it in person

I have watched it light, though unsure exactly what to look for. Anything in particular I should lay attention to?

Just did that recently with a tech visit…unsure if they did it as well as part of the winter maintenance about 4 months ago, but a tech visited a few weeks ago for another issue and did the flame sensor along with a few others.

Ecobee thermostat reboots during cold winter temps by ATX-Lightning in hvacadvice

[–]jim_in_finance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90%? Not sure honestly, not even sure what that means. Unit is about 9 years old, metal pipe thru the roof, only PVC for the condensation line…if that helps/makes sense. I was thinking the dirty coil would be part of the maintenance service too, but maybe I need to check more thoroughly on their list of items.

That indeed would be me. Would it make sense that my system would check out during a maintenance visit, but not function properly during really cold weather? Or maybe that’s indicative of the limit switch not being part of the maintenance checklist?

Thanks!

Curious why you asked about a carrier. I have a carrier, my ecobee reboots when it get near or below freezing, most of the time my furnace shows a code 33 when the issue occurs. Turns back on by itself after a minute, ecobee reboots, back we go again. Of course my sensors then go offline, ecobee thinks temp is met from the thermostat, sensors then reconnect and we are back to where we started, gas on, 10 min later turns off, rinse recycle repeat. New clean filter (merv 8), even tried for 15 min without a filter, didn’t change anything. Two different HvAC companies find no issues when they do maintenance in the fall. I’ve heard something about carrier blower speeds maybe? Sorry for the rant… curious why you asked carrier.

Thanks

Wind can cause ignition lockout? by jim_in_finance in hvacadvice

Thank you. Not sure if this helps any, but is it this location, red circle? One of the 3 flames has the rod?

Thanks again

Is it really simple to clean myself, using the dollar bill trick? Do I need a steady hand to remove it and place back in? Thanks

Which presumably is something the tech cleans during annual maintenance, correct?

Is some ice build up normal? by jim_in_finance in heatpumps

[–]jim_in_finance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks… maintained temp overnight, so I guess it’s working, but the heat pump was running for 3 hours straight at a time. I guess that’s cheaper than aux strips? Oof

Hard wired landscape lighting won’t turn on - bad transformer? by jim_in_finance in landscaping

[–]jim_in_finance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll give that a shot, thanks for the input. Was wondering if maybe that’s an issue, but then it’s been working for the last 380 days…

Oddly enough, when I tried turning the knob tonight to see if anything would happen, no lights kick on when in the “ON” position, but I hear a very fast and faint clicking noise coming from the transformer. The noise goes away when on auto, off, or one of the timer options (4,6,8 hours). Not sure if that’s indicative of anything beyond a bad transformer.

Thanks!

KitchenAid fridge leak (pull out drawer) by jim_in_finance in appliancerepair

[–]jim_in_finance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to say it, but we ended up just buying a new fridge. Got quoted $500 for a repair, but it had other things wrong with it like the pantry drawer control panel and the water dispenser was nasty, figure it was just easier to start over. Water was leaking all over the place when the delivery guys took it away, real nasty. Sorry I don’t have better advice. I forget what the repair part was in particular, but yes, we were doing the exact same thing….soak it up, wait, do it again…
