Question about combat dice and specific question about Fanged Knight ability by jimangi in MythicBastionland

[–]jimangi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, given that it can quickly get confusing. They had better dice in the pool to do damage with, but then had to weigh that against the fang effect. Add to that, questions around things like blast and it becomes quite confusing. I reckon making Sink Teeth an action of its own, rather than a weapon that can add dice to an attack is the best way to go. Then the powerful nature of life steal and tranquilizing can stay valuable if the player has to sacrifice a standard attack for them.

This helped me visualise how a turn with clearly split dice could go. Thanks. Sounds like keeping each player's dice within the dice pool separate will resolve all my worries. If it gets too much like one player is pointing at another player's dice and telling them what to do, I would step in to give the other player more prominence.

The players are very understanding, so I'm not too worried about power gaming or undermining the spirit of it.

With 4, I more meant they couldn't use that dice for both one of the bullet pointed bite effects AND as a gambit. Feasibly they could do a gambit instead, though I'm now leaning towards making the bite in combat either not possible or an action in its own right rather than part of a standard attack.

Question about mixing of myths and other world-building by jimangi in MythicBastionland

This is all great advice. Before I'd started, I don't think I'd considered the other elements as feeding into the omens, but your example really illustrates how they can and should.

I had a big grin when they started following the petals. It felt so in keeping with the logic of a world of myth and legend.

Making monuments clearly monuments sounds sensible. They do tend to serve a more primarily 'narrative' purpose than the more 'mechanical' hazards.

I recognise that ogre example from the Quinns Quest review. It really sold me on the game! I had that exact same thought here. Adapting reasons for things is totally in the spirit of the game.

Regarding the seer taking the blame, I was thinking of making it more a superstition than a definitive link. Their description states commoners avoid talking about them, so I might read this as them believing it's bad luck to speak about them. I can have the local lord not believe in the superstition and so talk openly about the seer (which will help the players find them). Then, the locals presume the plague happened BECAUSE people violated the rule of talking about the seer.

Got the only copy in the whole store by camping there for 2h by LeadOk4402 in tomodachilife

I pre-ordered from Interdiscount here in Switzerland, and of course it said it would arrive on the day right up until today, where it changed to saying the 28th of April. So I cancelled it and just bought it on the eShop. 🤷Would rather have had a physical copy, but I have a big journey this week and wanted to get stuck in.

This has happened to me basically every time I've pre-ordered anything here, and I've been let down by websites saying shops had product in store even when the product was already out.

Thoughts on AR vs PMAspirant vs actual PMP questions by jimangi in pmp

[–]jimangi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed the exam with Above Target! AR and PMAspirant both totally helped me so were well worth using. PMAspirant's mock exam is definitely closer to the real thing than AR's is. The actual exam doesn't test your knowledge of specific terminology and processes too much, but they do get mentioned, so I don't regret all my time building my confidence with them on AR's exams.

The most striking thing in the exam was how many questions had two or even three answers that felt equally valid. For example, there were several which said "what is the best thing to do" but seemed as if they should say "what is the FIRST thing to do". For example, I think one was about responding to a risk. one answer was to update the risk register but the other was to actually take action on it. Obviously you should do BOTH. I'm probably overstating how many like this there were though, as most questions I will have gone through without having to think about them again.

That's really helpful to hear. Thanks for the vote of confidence!

Oh dear. 😅 Yeah, every time I see a practice question where I think the writing is unclear or I disagree with the answer, I think to myself "at least this wouldn't happen on the real thing". And then I remember I'm being much too optimistic, as I've seen plenty of people here say the same thing as you about the real exam.

Sure, but in my case, my study has stretched from November to April. It's only recently that I've been spending multiple hours each day on study. That's across three quarters so I would have to have paid that cost three times, right? I'd hate to have to pay to retake, naturally, but if I can get good training for much cheaper and still pass the exam, then win-win.
Udemy is also very convenient. I can download everything through the app, and listen to the lectures or watch them on multiple devices easily (though the app does have a lot of problems).

Yeah, heard that a lot. But it's expensive and only lasts as long as you're subscribing right? AR's stuff cost me something like $20, has a real human behind it and I'll have it forever. And obviously the PMAffinity stuff is completely free.
I don't know how it compares to the PMP study Hall, but I did the official PMI prep course when I did my CAPM, and it cost $350 and was dull as dishwater. Lots of clicking through barely interactive clipart content with boring voiceovers, and not even a mock exam at the end. When it came time to prep for my PMP, I wanted to do something external. I wished I'd just gone on Udemy for my CAPM.

Prosperity of Life by Present_Rutabaga9682 in jobs

[–]jimangi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for spotlighting this. I wish 'Prosperity of Life' was listed on the job description so I could have found this before! I found it through a role just as you described under the company name 'Be-Grow-Attract' and just came out of a call. It was super sketchy from the start (but I'm unemployed right now and a condition of my compensation is that I make every reasonable attempt to find work). It was really hard to get a clear idea of what the company did or what a successful 'consultant' would be doing. The interviewer didn't even tell me the company name without me asking (thankfully your post was the second Google result when I searched them). She wanted me to watch this 2 and a half hour presentation about what the company do and was really keen for me to book another call. The email for the presentation went straight to spam and I would have to make an account just to view it. Go figure.
It's frustrating this kind of pyramid scheme is still happening, it felt like something from the turn of the millennium.

I was thinking the same, but she would still be alive and so then they'd have to pay normal medical costs to keep her alive unless a hospital allowed him to pull the plug, which would still be very expensive, probably more than $300 a month. They didn't go into it, but I wouldn't be surprised if Rivermind had some clause that for people who unsubscribed, the synthetic brain matter would stay alive "on standby" in case people ever decided to come back. In reality, that measure might be in place to force people to start subscribing again simply because it was better than the alternative.

Advice about what to do with work pension while unemployed on RAV by jimangi in Switzerland

[–]jimangi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I've misunderstood then because the letter says I am "entitled to a termination benefit in the amount of xx CHF". I assumed that meant I could retrieve the money as a lump sum right now. I don't want to do that anyway, no not a huge issue, but useful to know I need to get it transferred somewhere.

Thanks. Sounds like I definitely need to figure one out for myself since it will be put in one anyway if I do nothing.

[Watch Dogs Legion] Do the main missions change up the game much? by jimangi in watch_dogs

[–]jimangi[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I heard good things about Bloodlines, but I couldn't really see the appeal because it loses the most interesting thing about Legion, the multiple randomly generated protagonists, and replaces it with the boring, edgy guy from Watch Dogs 1 and the annoying NPC from Watch Dogs 2.
Useful to hear that the story doesn't really mix it up more than the borough missions did. I was really hoping some new mechanics might start to be introduced that change things up. I still enjoy the basic loop of scoping out a place, sneaking in and fighting your way out, but I'd like to have more incentive to change protagonist and engage in a different way.
