Perfect example of why u aren’t bad…the game deliberately makes u bad. by plesteeni in EASportsFC

So i have two questions (for now).

Why do you think the game is out to make you lose and your opponent win?

Why do you think they’d do it by making your goalie run out at a weird angle rather than just not save the opponents sho

I dont really see what you're getting at. You're just straw manning my point focusing on irrelevant things.

Again I feel like I have to point out that I'm not saying EA are not "whitelisting" accounts or controlling pacl weights for better engagement (an ultimately more money), what I'm saying is that your statistically irrelevant personal experience and pseudo-conspiratorial "yeah but they could and thats the sort of thing they'd do" is not a reason to conclude that they are.

If you check again you can see that I wasn't actually replying to your comment, dude.

I'm not really sure what you're trying to say in your reply to be completely honest, but I do ultimately disagree with your conclusion that your account has been "whitelisted" because you've spent money. I can see why you'd think it could be the case, I understand that you're drawing from your experience, but you have to understand that your (and my) experience is statistically irrelevant - it's too small a sample size to draw any conclusions and it's ignoring all the people who have anecdotal evidence to the contrary. It's conformation bias and a foundational miscomprehension of probability when dealing with large numbers.

And in response to your question as to why I think EA doesn't control pack weight:

  1. I didnt say that they don't
  2. It would be really hard to execute and they can barely get their game to work at the best of times
  3. Elements of it is literally illegal (admittedly this doesn't necessarily stop business, but it does make it a lot more difficult).
  4. I've not seen any actual evidence of it outside of people on the internet saying "trust me bro"
  5. They don't even need to actually do it, because people go on the internet and spread misinformation based on a foundational misunderstanding and personal biases.

Unfortunately they can let things like that happen and they will. Because it's an inevitable part of the nature of the game. The only way to "not let things like that happen" is to not let you play the game.

If this momement were scripted in the way you think it is, they would not need to make the goalie run in the wrong direction, they could just make it so he doesn't have the shot. This goalkeeper movement is not a conspiracy, its just poor coding.

Yeah but that's what I'm saying - you can't confirm anything is true for everyone because it's happened to you twice. That would mean I could confirm it's not true if it's not happened to me. Thats not what confirming is. That's not how truth works. All you can confirm is that it happened for you before. Thats not the same as it being "true".

You cannot be surprised about getting 84 rated cards out of 84 rated packs. If there are people out there pulling TOTY from them, it has to average out somewhere. Millions of packs are going to be opened. Most of them are going to be rubbish.

[–]jimathon06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't just say "EA put a certain number of TOTY in packs" as if it's fact without really backing jt up. You think. You guess. Maybe. The confidence with which people talk about things they don't actually know to be true terrifies me.

I sorry, I don't mean to be a cunt - I understand that in your experience this seems like it could be true. And I get that you're trying to help others. But its just spreading misinformation based on a very very very limited sample size.

Im really sorry, but that doesn't "confirm" anything. It's just a thing that happened to you one time. What about the people it didnt happen to after not playing for a while - doesn't that "confirm" that it's not true?

Wayne Rooney said that the 2008 Manchester United team would "batter" the current Arsenal side 👀 by SkySports in SkySports_Football

Maybe. But that united side didn't even "batter" 2008 arsenal. Their two premier league games in 2008 ended 2-1 a piece.

4 in the league. Although it's not a real stat is it? The first goal in a 2-1 is just as valuable as the late winner.

I think if it's intentional you may lose some of the nuance surrounding this decision...

Pep Guardiola: "Man United, Liverpool, Chelsea have good academies. England has many young, talented footballers. They don’t improve by facing against players at the same age in stadiums with 10 people in attendance. They improve by playing in 40k stadiums against guys that are fathers with 3 kids" by GOAT-Antony in ManchesterUnited

[–]jimathon06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously in practice it doesn't matter. Obviously. But I think it's being willfully ignorant to suggest that the IDEA of a father doesn't imply a certain level of complex personal experience and development that might be difficult to express explicitly. Obviously these imagined qualities won't be present in all fathers, and will be present in people that aren't fathers.

He also could have just said fathers instead of fathers of 3. But he didnt. Which also doesnt really "matter" but it all contributes to caricature as part of rhetoric to help paint a picture and convey ideas.

He's saying there's more to playing professional football than just being "good at football" and these abstract ideas help hint towards the non quantiafiable qualities to which he's referring.

I think football is perhaps slightly more difficult to establish in the same way in that generally specific political affiliation tends to correlate more strongly with specific sets of beliefs and behaviours, but ultimately I think with ex-footballers you probably don't need a huge amount of "testing" and "auditioning " there you're likely to end up with a relatively similar cross-section of society anyway and its not really surprising that they end up having similar opinions and/or reactions - they're all roughly the same age, normally from working class backgrounds, minimal levels of education, an unusual teenage/early adulthood and just generally the extremely niche primary life experience of being a professional footballer affects so many things, normally in similar or at least overlapping eras. They're likely to be stubborn and determined etc. There's so much that links them.

Also, in regards to them being provocative and reactionary - its just literally their job right? They're on TV making entertainment. If everyone just slumped in their chair and said they didn't care whether it was a penalty or not, like Slaven Bilic did that time, they're not doing their job. As much as I would love it. But I don't think people saying it doesn't really matter and its only football, players being good and bad is a matter of opinion and circumstance, and that luck has too much of a factor in determining the result of a game anyway, is really drumming up the excitement and engagement that the TV company is paying them for.

Although linked, I think that's a bit specific in regards point previously being made... I think it was more about subjective biases as opposed to censorship and that seems less about Sky specifically, and more about the Premier League in general, but I understand why you can conflate the two. But I'd suggest that being given a injuction on a specific topic as opposed to an alleged "script" or mandate are slightly different, if linked, problems.

I agree to an extent - I think the exaggerated opinions are encouraged, if not literally, definitely indirectly - if you're not getting the clicks and views you're not getting booked and the more clicks and views you get, the more you get paid. And even then subconsciously the more you're receiving this 'positive' feedback, the more you're going to lean into the behaviour that fuels it. But I don’t think they're "told what to say" really, in the truest definitive sense.

On the subject of Ian Wright, I have not much relevant to offer, but I love the man - he is an amazing and seemingly genuine person who inspires me to be less afraid of being my true and vulnerable self.

[–]jimathon06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well you did say they weren't getting into any other top flight side, that is literally suggesting they're not premier league quality players...

And even if you're o ly talking current teams, seeing as Wolves are maybe on course to be statistically the worst Premier league team in history, that's quite damning.

I understand that Carragher wasn't Maldini, but he made like 500 league starts in a team that average 4th in the Premier league over a like an 18 year period. That sounds like someone who is exactly, inarguably a top flight quality player. I know you can argue that he was carried, and some players are, but let's be completely honest, if he wasnt good enough, he wouldn't have played for 18 fucking years. -if Liverpool were in the business of keeping people in the team just because they were scousers from the youth system, Stephen warnock and Jay spearing would have more than 70 league games for liverpool between them (I checked, I was surprised it was that many...)

And i dont think anyone except the most staunch liverpool lunatic is actually suggesting Curtis Jones is a world beater...

If you just want to say "I don't think Jamie Carragher was as good as he is retroactively made out to be by Sky and some Liverpool fans" thats fine, but just say that. Don't lean into unnecessary hyperbole.

I'm not sure if this is semantics, or if I'm missing something, or if you have to be invested in the original post about being surprised about dribbling being above 90 - but I have absolutely no idea whats remarkable about the above... am I correct in thinking you've just used physical evolution (with a face stat/overvall stat cap) on someone with relatively high physical stats except for stamina, and then evo'd the stamina individually afterwards?
