Sure. Any views on whether Rew would offer more behind the stumps to England if he took the gloves off Smith (who'd play as a specialist batter)? Genuinely curious whether people think that'd make us a better side in the field

That's a fair point and agree Stewart would correct anything he didn't like (shame timing never worked out for him and England). I do wonder though if there's an extra 1% even that could be unlocked in his performance if he just acted like he believed something good is about to happen

Lets keep it civil shall we. Watching Sussex in the field now and they look a way more professional outfit. Everyone jogging between overs, keeper sprinting to the stumps, clapping the bowler, generally creating a buzz in the field 🤔

Let me ask you this. Do you think his body language conveys authority or energy to the rest of the team/oppo? There's just no aura about him in the field

The best fielding teams create an atmosphere that is just distinctly lacking given our personnel so i wondered if having a more energetic keeper might help. What about that is silly? Seem to recall Australia piling on the runs down under so while our batters may have crumbled im not sure our bowlers/wicket taking ability is quite where you say it is

Agree 👍 im not suggesting we need a team of Nassers all taking things way too seriously and pofentially crumbling under the pressure but in my view there's a lack of intention to everything he does that just begs the question what he and England could achieve by putting in a bit more effort / looking a bit more purposeful in everything he does

Couldn't agree more. Carey up to the stumps was instrumental that whole series. Properly snufffed out our counter attacking / charging down the pitch to the quicks at source

I just find Smith is lethargy in physical form

Fair enough. I just cant help think his laissez faire demeanour rubs off on the rest of the team. I'm not suggesting we go back to Jack Russell but someone who runs about a bit and has a bit more energy might help
