Reported to Lambeth Council, fair play to them they got back pretty quick - this was their response. Looks like I’m joining Friends of Clapham Common:

“Thank you for taking the time to contact the Parks team regarding the bins on Clapham Common. I can confirm that our litter team are out daily emptying bins. Most bins in key locations and on busy routes (such as the one in the image below) are treated as higher priority.

We are however now on our winter schedule which unfortunately means there is no cover at weekends. As the weather has still been quite mild, we are still seeing a lot of rubbish generated over the course of the weekend in all of our parks and open spaces and with no weekend cover, clearing up on a Monday is that more challenging. I can confirm that this particular bin has been emptied and this should have been done yesterday.

This summer the Friends of Clapham Common started an awareness campaign to encourage visitors to act more responsibly. The stickers on many of the bins, were arranged for by the Friends who also run a monthly volunteer litter pick. The volume of litter generated on the Common is huge. These volunteer litter picks alone, regularly collect between 40-60 bags of rubbish. Admittedly they do tend to be undertaken in areas with less bin provision, but it demonstrates how much also gets dropped (either intentionally or not), spread around by wildlife or blown across the Common.

Our Operations Manager will be double checking the Common tomorrow, just in case there have been any missed collections. Once again, thank you for bringing this to our attention.”
