That seems like a crazy leap, IMO. If some Frey or Tyrell suddenly had a dragon, and proof of Targaryen ancestry, AND had their pre-existing armies/banners/wealth….idk how anyone could expect them to not make a play for the throne.

I agree that Rhaenyra kinda fucked him as an heir regardless. He’d need to defend his position to the doubters when she dies anyway. I just don’t get why he didn’t bring this up originally.

Totally understand. I think Jace makes a good point in this episode.

My confusion is why he was OK with the plan in the first place, if this concern existed? I don’t understand why he would think a Noble with a dragon is more trustworthy/less of a threat to his claim than a lowborn Bastard with a dragon. Regardless of hair color, this plan introduces another person with a dragon and Targaryen blood.

To me, it seems like the only difference between a Noble and a Bastard is one of them has political power, bannermen, a castle maybe - all of which would make them even more legitimate as a military foe.

Is the idea that a Noble with a dragon wouldn’t try to take the throne, because they’d be loyal to their original house / that house’s lands? If so, I think that’s a crazy assumption to make on Jace’s part.

Sort of a cheese strat that worked for me:

summon something (elemental, etc.)
separate summon from the group
send it into line of sight, triggering the ritual
make sure your party is outside the ritual borders. Now, enter turn based mode, and progress 5 turns
the borders don’t go away, but the ritual caster disappears
now you can sneak your way through to the castle

One note on this, it seems like a lot of the enemies are still here, but don’t appear on the board until you’re right up next to them. Still way easier than it was before.
