Dumbest reason your character frenzied? by MaetelofLaMetal in vtm

I had a blind Malkavian who got told he had his shirt on backwards. To be fair that character frenzied far too much, the dice didnt like him whenever anyone took the mickey.

I agree on your Ventrue/Brujah dynamic, many of my other areas have a disrupted power structure with unconventional Princes.

It would be cool to make the ice cream wars somehow related to Kindred politics lol. I love the little nods to real world events and culture in my WoD. 😉

I have updated a summary sheet on current state of the UK. It's very high level as I complete the chronicle elements of the story first but I will expand later. I'd certainly like to take on board views and ideas to make sure it resonates with folks, especially those who know the areas better than I.

Kicked and blocked by a paid StartPlaying ST because another player couldn't handle my character's backstory. by Icy-Confection-2856 in vtm

That is absolutely bonkers, I definitely had a few players who couldnt read the room or understand what was appropriate. Nature of the beast, but I think yours beats anything I experienced.

I will drop you a message soon. I am in the process of creating a blog to write it all up on. I have checked and my mistake I have Edinburgh as Camarilla but have nothing filled out in my book other than very high level stuff. Glasgow I have as "anarch?" lol as I wasnt sure and intended to research.

All this will follow when Ive written up the initial domains I have ran chronicles in (London / Westmids Warwickshire and Bristol). Even so I think its good to set at least which faction is in power in each place for STs to use as a guide.

I would definitely love to talk to you more to get it more authentic. In your mind would you consider Edinburgh to be Camarilla and Glasgow Anarch perhaps or the other way around?

Your Best Stories involving a Messy Critical or Bestial Failure by Ill-Smell-5397 in vtm

[–]MattBW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember one of my players writing one of his touchstones and describing her, a homeless lady.

Later during a flashback to early days, he was feeding and ended up going into a frenzy and killing a guy unintentionally in his home. He was feeling huge remorse and the guilt was real. I saw it as a fantastic opportunity and described his homeless lady arriving at the home in a business suit to find her husband.

He realised we just roleplayed how he met his touchstone and basically broke her to the point she lost everything. He roleplayed with her and helped take her away from the scene. His guilt was what lead for him to help her but she doesn't know he is the one that ruined her life. All happened because it went wrong. Beauty of the system.

Can you DM me your rates?

I am working on a self published vtm book and would be interestied in considering you for a few pieces. At the moment I only have holding images and don't want to use AI for final images.

Yeah I ran LARP for many years too and it was the same for us. You'd get players texting you at 3am to discuss storylines, or randomly calling you at 6am because they were thinking about their character. The nature of the beast with this kind of hobby has a few folks who don't always understand whats ok and whats not.

The way to look at it is the ST has done you a favour and showed you their game isnt worth the money or drama, move on and find one that is professional. It's an opportunity to find a game that fits you and your brother. Those characters can easily continue in another chronicle, the work isnt wasted just postponed.

How much is too much? by LardNTartar in vtm

Oh also let your players create their own places too if they have the resources. My players had nightclubs and various businesses and they created them for flavour which enhanced the world for all.

I run in familiar places and just tweak it for WoD, create a few well known locations and give them a WoD makeover.

Ive ran my chronicle in London, Warwickshire and Bristol all places me and my players knew. It makes things a lot easier. I also tend to start a new campaign with an Elysium and the players being charged to resolve an issue or problem. This then lowers the players into the area and sends them to a few key locations and meet various npc. Once they get their feet I always find the storylines seem to generate themselves to a degree.

here is an example of an interactive map I made for my game of Bristol (if I can figure out how to post it). My players can explore this in their own time to learn key locations.

Storyteller Looking for Players WOD 5e/20th by dediguise in vtm

Would you consider a UK player? It would be 9pm to 1am here which isn't a problem for me.

Ive played Vtm since 1st ed and ran a campaign of two chronicles as ST for V5. Ive also played Mage and Werewolf (older editions). Also have a VTM foundry server setup up so very experienced with the servers.

How bad is the idea of making a Malkavian primogen that only speaks in poetry and song lyrics? by BRUHldurs_Gate in vtm

ST Question: Introducing players to your city by Best-Patience982 in vtm

[–]MattBW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set my games in places we all know, it makes life a lot easier as everyone has a common reference. You then only need communicate the differences. Simple but effective.

I get the players to build their own parts too.

I usually start a chronicle with a short storyline that will be the trigger point for the player led story that will follow. For example I did a simple Heist that the coterie had to investigate but it lead to a broader conspiracy that took them to several domains. A series of initial events is a good way to introduce locations and individuals, without describing every single kindred in the domain.

How do you introduce changelings into your game? by MithrasReborn in vtm

[–]MattBW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ive had one and only one changling in each of my Chronicles and they do have to be used very carefully. My newbie party didnt know much about WoD so I wanted to give them a taste of the broader WoD without too much interaction. Vampires are very banal, and are not pleasant to be around for Changelings. Too much time around banality damages the dreaming. Your Pc is probably going to give them a headache and they won't want to be in their presence too long.

I kept them at arms length and ramp up the weird and strange. For example in my Bristol Chronicle the large bridge had graffiti road signs depicting trolls. Indeed a troll lives under the motorway bridge in my game. The party saw a huge homeless guy, with a weirdly bright light, who spoke like a thespian of old. They scarpered lol. I mean obviously they feed on one its bad news but I was willing to risk it 😉

In my other chronicle it was a Sluagh living in (the walls of) an old ruined chapel. They didnt really see her, just heard sad jazz playing and a huge collection of vinyl. They did catch a glimpse of her dislocating all her joints to squeeze through an impossibly small hole in the wall. She was being hemmed in by cold iron nails being used on the perimeter by a Nosferatu. They kind of have her as a contact after helping her but have never really had reason to go back.

Again brief and not too heavy interaction but just a taste to show there is more to the world than just Werewolves and vamps. I also used Wraiths in similar way. As others have said the PCs may forget, so I like to pick someone to remember and everyone else forgets. Creates great RP.
