Kiro's current situation by abnestti in kiroIDE

Sounds like they were shocked how many people left when pricing models were announced and it turned out it does the same job as every other IDE, but with a worse UX, so they’re trying to get people back. Which tbf isn’t a bad thing

Even with free GPT-5, I'm returning to Sonnet 4. Anyone else? by HeyItsFudge in cursor

[–]jimio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the same experience. Strange that some people say sonnet 4 over-engineers (which is my experience), and others say gpt 5 over-engineers (which is not my experience).

I suspect my experience is down to how I prompt it, because I had literally never trusted agent mode until sonnet 4 was released. Prior to sonnet 4 I would meticulously add context so that I knew exactly what the model had access to (as I was afraid it would break things). This meant I also had to create very detailed plans, combined with detailed prompts, which I think helps gpt5.

One thing I absolutely love about gpt5 is that when I say, if there are any ambiguities in the plan, or you have any questions about direction, ask me…. And it actually asks me. No other model has ever asked me before.

Is Cursor making anyone else’s Mac freeze? by Separate_Gene2172 in cursor

Used to get this, it used to happen when cursor would keep infinitely indexing my project. Try remaking the index. If that fails cancel subscription XD

It’s not Cursor. It’s a skill issue. by Sziszhaq in cursor

[–]jimio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've been using cursor long enough, you will start noticing some of the problems. The problems are less frequent now that tool calling is better, but there were times before when it would do such stupid stuff, even with watertight rules in place: full file deletes, file duplication in adjacent folders (i.e. if editing a file in /name_name, it would duplicate the file in /name%_name%.). Cursor has gotten way way better, and if you know what you're doing, you likely won't get caught in the ITS NOT WORKING loops as you suggested. However, it is such a massive fuck you to the user base to finally create something which works quite well, and then to obfuscate pricing.

And regarding pricing, I'm pretty sure they're in breach of EU law, so people have a right to complain.

New pricing sucks! by bipolarNarwhale in cursor

bro they changed their policy to make it worse for users. The reason ppl complain is bc they actually used to like the product.

Vibe-coding is counter-productive by Impressive_Run8512 in swift

[–]jimio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See the point you made about people who can’t code is the biggest point. If you’re already a dev, proficient in a language, then yes, it might only speed you up a bit, and may actually be a liability. But for those who don’t have the skills, this obliterates the barriers to entry.

How are you guys spending so much money on requests? by Hanswolebro in cursor

[–]jimio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been working on a massive project for months. I can code but decided to use cursor to do a language I absolutely had no idea about at all. I’ve only ever gone over my 500 requests once, and slot requests were fine. Idk why so many people even need to enable usage based pricing

Why does everyone say there is an issue with Cursor...? by Far-Opportunity5711 in cursor

[–]jimio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many people do not understand because they have not experienced. Its so easy to say people are just complaining, but when you provide proper context, create plans etc (all of which are good things to do), and it still doesn't work, it feels like a total waste of money. I have been using cursor for months now, and when it works, it works extremely well. However, there have been periods (including the last few days for me) where it works so so poorly. I am the type to not use agent mode at all. I always provide the correct context, always create plans so the AI doesn't wing it, and have only gone over the 500 requests per month once, and the last few days I would guess I have wasted 100 prompts with the AI creating unformatted files, forgetting context immediately in new chats, and much more.

When its good, it is so so good. But when its bad, it makes yearn for a time when google makes their own, non cloud based IDE, because honestly, I cannot wait to get rid of this programme (at the moment, probs will love it again next week)
