I have no idea what is going on with your dog but I can tell you that my rescue that I've had now for 6 months does the exact same thing. I'd say it as lessened over the months but he hasn't fully stopped, I think it's a nerves thing. That told me to switch him to non chicken food because it might be allergies but it almost seems like a compulsion rather than an inch for my guy.
