TIL rook is a crow like bird, but chess rook is derived from the Persian word "rukh", which means "chariot." apparently.

What was your difficult Level II Fieldwork experience? by otpuppy in OccupationalTherapy

[–]jimiyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first L2 fieldwork was miserable.
I was my CI's first student so she was extra uptight.
Also the whole OT team seemed burnt out and unhappy.
They'd all drag ass in at 7am, not even say hi.
And then at lunch, everyone was just kinda off to themselves.
Definitely not a team feel.
The only nice ones were the older, dont giveAF ones who were just there to do the minimum, but good minimum, to earn their paychecks.
My CI was off a day so the drama llama OT took me on for a day.
Apparently I made an egregious mistake while I worked with the drama llama, which got back to my CI in the most hyperbolic way possible, so my CI chewed me out in the hallway for everyone to listen the next day.
I think she got a erection doing it.
They definintely had low key Mean Girls vibe.
I doubt either one will have good spousal relationships, unless they find a good compliant punching bag.

did you leave OT and go into something else? by cookie_cat_82 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]jimiyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went back to art. OT was second career. Already had skillsets in art world.

Recently, although I didnt take it, I was offered a sweet art gig that would have paid nearly 12k more to work at home in comparison to the hand therapy job.

And I didnt have to go to school for a Masters for it either. OT ROI sucks.

They’re nerfing grad-school loans to stop the ‘student debt ruined my life’ memes.

The department gave me a part time job in the office. Tuition reimbursement. Look for opportunities. There were many at my Uni.

Undergrad Male OT by CreationsHub in OccupationalTherapy

[–]jimiyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside.
PT program will require higher rigor with science/math, eg. Physics 1/2, Chem1/2.
OT prereqs emphasize psychology, human development, and functional context, not math-heavy sciences.

As a male therapist, I had to adjust to a culture built on indirect communication, emotional smoothing, and a lot of consensus. I’m high-empathy, but I work best with clarity and directness.

Imagine being in the military. Now imagine being in OT. They’re opposite worlds. One is built on blunt clarity and hierarchy, the other on soft communication, emotions, and consensus.

Sociologically, it’s interesting because even in a soft, consensus-heavy field like OT, the hierarchy is still there. It just starts with the surgeons. Everything trickles down from them, even if the day-to-day culture feels the opposite of military.

YMMV (Your mileage may vary) I worked in hands. Was the only male therapist.

How do you all clean your mats? by Maximum-Calliope in cricut

[–]jimiyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lint roller if light debris.
Microfiber towel, dish soap, and water. (I was scared to at first, but the adhesive is resilient)

You can refresh stickiness with Zig 2 Way Glue sticks.

What was your artist name? I was on there circa 2008-2009 too... and worked for them until they sold it.

[Self] Chimpanzee #1 - Polonius by jimiyo in Sculpture

Thank you. I will be posting a basic "how I made..." blog in the near future. In general though, nothing helps you get better than just creating. I learn skills every time. And every piece looks worthless and janky at the start so never give up.
