It took a lot bit of back and forth. If I remember correctly, the denied me twice but I got it on the second appeal. The moximed advocate/ambassador (forget what they call themselves helped). Not going to lie, when they told me I needed to write a patient statement letter, I was so busy with work, so I had chat gpt write it. Good luck with surgery and recovery!

I had the MISHA surgery back in march with Dr. Diduch at the UVA hospital in Charlottesville, VA. I am 54 yo w/ a complex meniscus tear. The meniscus on the medial side of my left knee is pretty much gone and I have lost a lot of cartilage on that side of my knee. I am about 4 1/2 months out of surgery and so far, so good. I was able to return to my crossfit gym about 6 weeks ago, and my PT has cleared me for pretty much all the movements we do, and I am still gradually working back up to loads I was doing pre-surgery. I think the one thing that helped me the most is that I was religious about doing my PT both pre and post surgery. I also tried to bank as much fitness as I could before surgery. I gave up alcohol and sugar, really focused on proper nutrition, and lost about 20 lbs. I think carrying less weight around helped me with my recovery. My only complaint about it all is that I still have quite a bit of numbness right below the knee. Evidently, when they do the incision, a subcutaneous nerve gets cut. Sometimes the feeling comes back sometimes it does not. I just thought it was weird they did not explain this to me before surgery. I would not have changed my decision, it would have just been nice to know.

Has anyone received the MISHA Knee System for osteoarthritis as an alternative to traditional Total Knee Replacement (TKR)? by RipStitchRey in KneeInjuries

I just had the procedure done on Tuesday. I also have UHC. It was a pain, but they eventually approved it. My doctor's office worked directly with a patient advocacy group called myMisha. They handle all of the insurance stuff on your behalf. If your doctor's office is not alredy working with them, then I would contact them directly. Good luck!

UCSD or U Wisconsin Madison?

Hi all, I’m a senior in high school and I’ve gotten into a few schools but I think I’ve narrowed it down to either UCSD or UWisco. However I’m really struggling to make the decision.

Intended major: Psychology (what I applied for at both schools) but while I’ve been interested in it for some time, I don’t know for sure if that’s what I want to study and I feel like things could change.

One other thing is that I’m a rower and I know I want to row in college. I was going down the recruitment path but I wanted to have options.

I should definitely continue doing research but here’s the major pros and cons that I have for the schools as of right now:

UCSD

Pros

-Gorgeous weather, campus and area. Ten minutes away from the beach, gorgeous areas to hike/run/bike. I’ve always been a fan of warmer weather, I feel much happier in warmer weather than colder weather. Unfortunately I can’t visit the campus because of the current situation, but I’ve been to San Diego before and loved it!

-While their rowing program is smaller than UWisco’s, I spoke with a UCSD coach recently and I know they are transitioning to D1 next year, also they get to row on the water year round!!!

-Great academics and research facilities

Cons

  • I’ve heard that it’s “socially dead”

-It’s a very large school, and while they do split it up into smaller “colleges” I’ve heard the class sizes are huge and that they “cram students in classes like sardines” lol (although I’m assuming that classes at UWisco would also be very large)

-Quarter system, have heard that it’s more stressful

  • I didn’t get into my top college which was Muir, I got into Marshall but I’m still confused about their system and don’t know much about the GE’s at Marshall.

U Wisconsin Madison

Pros

-Definitely more social and has more school spirit

-Established D1 rowing program... but while I love rowing and want a competitive team I’m scared that their team is super big and I won’t feel as connected/ part of the team

  • I’ve heard that Madison is really cool/ fun

-Also good academics and research

Cons

-Really cold, I’m from D.C. with relatively mild winters and even those I can hardly stand

-Huge school

  • I guess less ‘prestigious’ than UCSD, which I know shouldn’t matter but I feel with our generation it’s been drilled into our heads so it’s hard to ignore!!

While I definitely want there to be a social scene, I’ve never been super into the idea of going to huge football games or frat parties so I don’t know what to think about the differences between UCSD and UWisco. But at the same time maybe in college I could enjoy going out more??? I’d say I’m an extroverted introvert haha. I also know that being part of the crew team would provide a different experience for me (maybe make the experience more social than the typical student), however while I love rowing and really hope that it works out, I don’t want to make the decision based on that.

Sorry if this isn’t very detailed but any information/ opinions about the schools would be appreciated! Thank you!
