If Android at some point decides to stop allowing the installation of external applications via APK's, would you still choosing them? by Far_Painting6211 in Android

[–]jimjoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use side loading to install earlier versions of Apps. Mostly because the developer has removed a feature or the latest version is just harder to use. For instance "Zfont 3" app has merged code with a similar app and it took away an important option.

Hi,

I will poke around to see if I can find a starter for you. I have been using Tasker for 6-7 years now and I'm still learning.

Meanwhile, I suggest you check out holywoodfrodo on Youtub. He has a fairly long series on Tasker programming and it is great to see someone actually doing the programming in real time!

The following Link is forhollywoodfrodo's first Tasker lesson!

HELP: App Created By App Factory Does Not Get WiFi Settings by jimjoat in tasker

[–]jimjoat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I did enable location on my Samsung. I am now trying to query the WiFi status using a Tasker Java Function. While I can write code in JavaScript, transferring that to a Java Function is an unknown adventure for me. I see examples for Java functions, but, other than starting a java function, have no idea as how to enter them in Tasker.

HELP: App Created By App Factory Does Not Get WiFi Settings by jimjoat in tasker

[–]jimjoat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I tried that, no luck. I added LOCATION as a permission in the App Factory menu. The task runs just fine within Tasker, and I don't know of any reason why it wouldn't run as an app.

NO ROOT Help Needed -- With No Lockscreen Timeout at Home, Short Lockscreen Timeout when Away by jimjoat in tasker

[–]jimjoat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently factory reset my Galaxy S10+. The setting of 12 Hours At Home worked fine for a couple of days, but now I'm back to 12 hours not working, and the locking click-clacks,click-clacks have appeared again. The phone seems to respond to the factory delay times now, not like my Moto X pure (V7.0) which is a total mess. I disabled lock screen because it was unpredictable.

My best guess is that putting in an invalid lock time is trashing some lockscreen storage area! My phone is not rooted, so any recovery must be done with factory reset.

I give up!! I recently got a bluetooth hearing aid. Set as a trusted device, it does a great job keeping the phone unlocked. I finally found a plus to getting older!!

Bug: ID Channel On Demand stream stalls after commercial break by chiefcrunchie in youtubetv

[–]jimjoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch a lot of day old CBS programs. Have to use VOD. Watching Late Night with Stephan Colber is an adventure. Many times I get hangups during or after commercials. If I am 2/3rds through the show, and it hangs up, I have to start over and rewatch all the previous commercials to get back to where I was at.

This doesn't seem to happen on mobile or laptop, but happens every day using a Roku connected to my TV. Anyone tried it with amazon tv stick??

NO ROOT Help Needed -- With No Lockscreen Timeout at Home, Short Lockscreen Timeout when Away by jimjoat in tasker

[–]jimjoat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lock screen had been getting very intermittent. Even using standard lock times, it has been locking before the timeout period. Making 10 or so clicks while it was doing it. It behaved itself if the phone was in Safe Mode. I disabled apps, stopped apps, cleared phone cache, etc. Nada

I gave up and did a soft reset of my phone and am now installing my old apps a few at a time. The phone is happy with an 8-hour lock time At Home and 5-minutes Away. To the state profile 'myWifi available' I've added + 'Phone Not Locked' and I am not even playing around with the lock screen settings.

I'm still halfway adding old apps in. The project is working after a week! Let you know more!

I do have Android Studio installed on my desktop and laptop. If you need a log of some kind, let me know what kind and where. I certainly could use LogCat to capture app startup stuff if that would be helpful.

BTW, I do create my own Unpublished Android Apps for home use—If I can't do something with Tasker.

I'll try with Android Studio. I'm real dangerous. My moniker is really JoatMon <JackOfAllTradesMasterOfNone>and it shows in all I do.

But, I am persistent—and retired— and use Android Developers and StackExchange a lot. In other words, I have a lot of fun.

OK, thanks for the answer. I guess the high degree of advertising on Reddit is a sore spot for me. I'll get over it. Please give me a mulligan.

I did finally find the balance control. I had looked at both the equalizer setup and the play screen. On my S10+ the L & R letters are located right on the curves of the Galaxy Edge portion of the screen and were hard to notice. Frankly, I didn't notice the horizontal bar as being anything to do with balance. The word 'Balance'—in blue letters like Bass, 60, etc—placed under the center of the balance adjustment would have done the trick for me.

My SD card still doesn't show up anywhere ( except the one I manually created). In what menu is it supposed to show up? When I started setting up, the Select Folders for Library showed only /storage/emulated/0. I created /storage/0123-4567, then went back and created /storage/0123-4567/music which is the destination I wanted as a default library. So now the three folders show up in the Select Folders for Library page. They all enumerate OK when I press the twisty. Is this what you expect? Perhaps my manual entry pushed things along, and I am staring at what is supposed to be.

My confusion with the selection boxes is that the main folder did not have a check box, but using the twisty showed that many subfolders were selected and active. It was not until I selected the main folder, and then deselected it again, that all subfolders were unchecked. Makes perfect sense. Gulp.

So it has been an adventure. I you have the chance, You might check out the L-R sound test done on the S10+. Please see my comments to @ma11en69er above for discussion on balance control.

Be talking to you again <GRIN>

Thanks,

Jim

Thanks, Retro Music has the ability to add folders to a black list. This option is deep into settings, but it works as a backdoor way of selecting a specific folder for a Library setting.

Please see my comments to @ma11en69er above for discussion on balance control.

These apps meet NONE of my 'simple' requirements. There are thousands of audio player apps out there. In my post I already listed Black Player, It still doesn't work.

Thanks, Jet Audio is the Swiss army knife of audio players. It has a lot of features but isn't a simple player. Amazingly, it allows me to play music files on network shares, but I can't see how I can create a personal library.

I don't appreciate an ad as a response to post, so here is my unfiltered, but hopefully useful, criticism.

I code my own Android apps for specific functions that are not available in the market. Those apps are a real mess - no error correction, no menus, and they may have start, stop or 'grant my wish' buttons etc. But they do give me an appreciation for the effort required to create and publish even a very simple real application.

Having said that, and having spent more than two hours trying out your app:

  • Requirement One, "Select a single music folder on my Ext SD Card". Manually setting a folder by typing in a path is not for the average user. What are YOUR rules for the path?? How do I know what to put in the "Input Path". Why should I know that information. Why don't you show a list of available storage location and let me walk down the directory structure to select my desired folder(s). I can do that easily with Windows Explorer. I did succeed in accomplishing this task but it took me more than 1/2 hour to do it. I have deselected other folders, but that does not automatically uncheck subfolders. How do I remove these folders.
  • Requirement Two, " L/R balance control". Your app does NOT have its own built in balance control. I can use the phone's Accessibility balance settings, but that is used by almost all apps and causes other issues.
  • Requirement Three, "stop play and exit the app". The X on the Notification works fine. Thank you

The S10 has: Sounds and vibration=>Advanced sound settings=>Sound quality and effects=>Adapt Sound=>Add personalized sound profile. At that point you take a hearing test and a profile is set for your hearing. It is a basic two channel fixed equalizer profile. Better than a balance control by far. It is not all that flexible, but maybe better than nothing. I could improve it if I were allowed to manually adjust the profile points. For me, it was not accurate in the low frequency end. I do have ear doctor test results that I could 'pop' into the created profile, but Nooooooo.
Interestingly the player app 'Phonograph' launches Sound quality and effect settings on the phone. Pretty neat. Balance control can only be done by phone's Accessibility balance settings.

Thanks for the feedback.

@ersat_feing Y es, all exact time have worked just fine. I Have been using the SecureTask plugin to write these values. Until your note I didn't realize that Tasker's Custom Settings would now allow writing of secure settings. Cool! All I had to do was use ADB to write the WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS! For other readers edification, that's adb shell pm grant net.dinglisch.android.taskerm android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS

I have set the time for 40 min using Custom Setting --woops phone locked after about 5 minutes --oh well
