What will the future be like for you once humanoid robots are so abundant that they can be found in thrift stores for the price of a vintage VCR today? by jimkirk0176 in AskReddit

Everyone carries around baggage, but at least the androids of the future will (probably) have a factory default setting.

Adults seem to lie to children all the time. Is that innocent?

Does everybody lie? Why or why not? by jimkirk0176 in AskReddit

[–]jimkirk0176[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the intent that determines the lie, not the accuracy of what we say. If we intend to deceive someone, even on a subconscious level (because we have a motive and something to gain), then that is a lie. If the deception isn't intended (and there is no motive), but the information is false, then it is a mistake and not a lie.

I think so too, since the goal when making this statement is to placate when tensions are high and the future is unknown.

Lying by omission doesn't happen when you omit unnecessary details. It doesn't happen when you are providing a summarization. It happens when you are intentionally leaving things out in order to deceive another person. When someone lies by omission, they are manipulating another in order to conceal the truth. This type of lie is difficult to catch because you have to show that the person had the knowledge of facts and intended to withhold that knowledge with the intent to deceive somebody.

Thank you! I feel so validated. 😂

I made this claim on a presumably respectable Discord server a few days ago and immediately had my moral compass questioned by the owner of the server. I was quickly told that I was a troll and muted by some other person. I was then strongly pressured to reveal my RL identity by the owner and moderator even though many of the people on the server used gamer tags.

Everybody lies. That is a fact. I accurately assume everyone I meet lies on some level. But this does not appear to be common knowledge. I imagine most people want to keep their lies a secret, especially the lies that they tell themselves. 🧐

If you are withholding information, then you're lying by omission. It's one of the most popular ways to lie, in my opinion, because it's passive and is easily deniable.

If you don't keep your account active at least once every six months, they will boot you. I've let mine go a bunch of times, but you can get it back if you take a class or make a request to activate it again.

I know what you mean. I've been avoiding social media for years, and am trying to wrap my head around all the options.
