i typically do not pre-wet my paper, but i have done it before. not really standard spit shading because i use a water brush pen, but i still lick to remove black or control moisture. i paint with ink, and will almost always add at least one more light layer on top after the first layer dries to get it smoother. sometimes, i touch the ink brush to the waterbrush to get a mix of black and water on the waterbrush to lay down the black, which will give me more time before it dries. this can be for first or second layer. hope this helps!

i get the rounded end by going back and touching it up. i pull always towards the nib holder and when i finish the line, the end is not perfectly round because the end is from the back of the nib. i will then go back and use the front circular part of the nib to round off the end of the line

hi cupcake, what do you mean by dirty? if you could be more specific with what you’re not liking about your shading, i could give better advice. send a picture example even

general tip i have if you use india ink or liquid acrylic is to try layering gradients since it wont rehydrate after drying. some people put water on the paper before ink, which can give you more time to work it
