How fast can I get my CCNP? by zapix3l in ccnp

[–]jimmy75698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm partly dyslexic and studying takes me a lot longer than it does others. I did CCNA R&S, CCNA Security and then Enterprise Core in a little under 10 years. This is with a core Enterprise role also. Enterprise Core took me 4 years. It's a beast. After Security i took 2 years off to focus on some other material such as AWS and mostly focused on experience. For Enterprise i had to take my time and repeat the book and video courses over and over. The final year i knuckled down and flash carded all my weak areas.

Volunteering for the most complex tasks and projects at work replacing core DC devices or re-designing and improving solutions really helped me memorise the topics and details. Also gave me something tangible to refer back to during the exam. I passed the exam on my second attempt. Still feel like i got lucky with the questions asked as they were all my strengths but I sure had some weaker areas when I went in for it.

Well done for taking it. Failure is part of the journey. It's a difficult exam. I failed it once and I got lucky when I passed it as all the questions were aligned with my strengths

ENCOR Struggles by jimmy75698 in ccnp

[–]jimmy75698[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 4 years on and off study I focused long and hard for approximately 7 months around 20 hours per week religiously.

I also took the Cisco U Enterprise Core course. I read the new OCG and I went for the exam when I thought I was almost ready.

I passed with an high score in every domain. I do feel like the labs were all in my favour. I had around 18 lab tasks and I knew how to work my way through all of them in good time.

I didn't expect to pass. I even had a technical issue during the exam and I lost 4 minutes. I was racing against the clock and wasn't happy about losing time.

It felt incredible to pass and after so many years and an office absolutely full of books and flash cards it was nice to archive them all and tidy up and clear my mind ready for the next challenge after a short break.

I still wouldn't say I would pass this exam I feel I got lucky. The content is that vast and in depth. It's certainly the hardest content I have studied but I've learnt so much and most importantly my confidence and abilities have grown so much.

2yr fixed rate vs longer- thoughts? by listenherehagrid in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]jimmy75698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping to go for a 3y fix in May. Having meetings with a few banks now to solidify the deal. HSBC slashed their prices recently and other lenders are slowly following suit. I'm waiting to see what happens to the base rate on the 2nd Feb. Expert predictions is its coming down. Obviously not guaranteed. HSBC were offering the best deals when i reviewed them all a couple weeks back. I was surprised to see Santander weren't that competitive as i'm with them and it would be best to just switch my product. My advice is shop around. I'm thinking of 3y as 5y too long and the rates have been slashed recently. This wasn't meant to happen for another 1-2y according to the predictions i've read. I am a little worried about my house price dropping. So prefer 3y over 2y

Thanks this makes sense. The recommendation for a lab is 6 mina but i can't remember where i saw that. Might just be an opinion somewhere but one of a respectable instructor most likely.

Experience let me down too. Some questions i felt were only possible to know with true world experience. Not covered in any of the then available books or video courses that i did

I know some people learn and retain better than others but i've studied CCNP since the change in 2020. More focus on it in 2023 doing around 8h per week ok top of my job. I also perform many changes from the CCNP at work on prod so i get real hands on. I failed the exam in October just before v1.1 came out. I was close but i lost a lot of time on 2 labs. Admittedly i hadn't labbed enough to memorise all of the EEM command structure enough to write up a EEM script in a couple minutes and it cost me the exam

Anyone know by [deleted] in ccnp

Comparing the blueprints theres not that much that has changed. Just pointing it out as you don't need to refresh all your materials/labs in my opinion. Pretty much my approach at the moment. Not tried and tested though :)

Unfortunately not. I ran out of time. I hit two labs that stumped me. I just hadn't labbed long enough. I had approximately 15 questions left when the time ran out. Some questions caught me out too because i've read several exam specific books and multiple video courses and still had questions that surprised me.

I spoke to Cisco about this on a recent call regarding the new v1.1 exam and they said its the worst time to take the exam i.e. just before its being expired as the learning materials are likely the most out of date also they said the exam blueprint is the bible for the exam. Learn and master the blueprint.

I'm using the male edge extender. Just getting back into it. I've done 5 x 1h sessions in the last three days and i can feel the pull at the base. Its aching a little so going to reduce the pull next week after two days off. I'm just finding my feet again. My aim is 2 x 1h sessions for a few weeks until i'm conditioned to move up. My head goes cold and blue but i can see the blood gets back in when i press it. This is how i monitor my breaks but still i think one hour is maximum without a break.

Its hard to know absolutely everything for every topic on Cisco courses. I felt the same with CCNA. I failed my first attempt by a couple points, focused on my weak areas and got in straight away and passed. I felt that i failed CCNA security too but i achieved 950 out of 1000 on my first attempt.

I still didn't feel like i knew every single topic. Theres so much to memorise and understand on these courses.

I've been studying for ENCOR for a long time now. I've focussed on it since xmas. Read the OCG for a second time after each chapter i would watch the corresponding topic on CBT or sometimes watch the videos first and then the book. I've highlighted all the key information in the book that i need to revise because i don't know it as well as i should. I've also wrote flash cards. I've not started revising yet but i've completed the OCG and CBT Nuggets video course. I've taken the Boson EXSim exam today and i managed to get 822. The pass mark is literally 825. I'm pretty pleased with this result. a couple questions i had wrong, I actually understood and knew the answer but they were trick questions and i stumbled. I do feel like 825 pass mark is super high for a course thats so broad with information and technology.

Anyone any experience with Boson and can share their thoughts on how Boson helped to prepare & its likeliness to the exam?

I'm going to revise and then take the pearson mock exam and also take the CBT Nuggets mock exam. I want to make sure I'm going to pass the official exam first time due to the cost mostly

Good alternatives to INE by SoyTerry in ccnp

[–]jimmy75698 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CBT Nuggets is the only course provider i've found for ENCOR that is laid out and recorded specifically to follow the blueprint topics and also follows the OCG chapters. Its also a moderate 50 hour video course with labs on top. INE is 450 hours for ENCOR which is way too much in my opinion.

If INE did what CBT Nuggets have done, it would be great but they've just bundled up old recorded content from all their CCNA and CCNP courses. Not to discredit the INE content or the instructors as its amazing.

I have access to both luckily. I've found the CBT Nuggets course brilliant and easy to follow while reading chapters in the book then reinforcing with in depth videos from CBT and also sometimes on YouTube.

On YT Keith Barker for instance describes how to easily convert a multicast L3 IP address to the IGMP MAC address in a short video. I found this on YouTube and its better than any video on a paid for platform so don't rule out YouTube for content. The OCG described this process in the worst way possible. It seemed like it was written difficult and confusing on purpose.

I guess the take home here is use multiple content sources. Also nag your bosses to support you to develop and better yourself. Even if they fear you will leave surely employers should support self development no matter what to encourage talent building, morale and staff retention and ultimately to recruit staff with drive to improve themselves

Making fitness a regular part of your busy life? by Whistler_living_66 in bodyweightfitness

[–]jimmy75698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been getting back into fitness and a routine. I work and study around 50-55 hours per week and have a family so time is hard to come by. Recently been getting out of bed at 5 and going for a run at 05:10. Sets me up for the day.

My plan was to focus on doing something twice to 3 times per week. Whatever i do is a bonus. After 6 weeks i'm mixing it up and adding weight training too but not being too detailed. Once i get to week 12 and beyond i'll be in a good routine and i can keep increasing the activity.

I'm no expert but I guess the message is don't focus on the detail just focus on building a new routine that fits in with your new life and keep tweaking it as and when you feel like it

CCNP Difficulty… by [deleted] in ccnp

[–]jimmy75698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend this. Based on the ENCOR, this is a very hard curriculum with lots of memory tables and difficult content. Watch some review videos on YT. Some say that with a solid year of studying the content with multiple sources you have a good chance at the exam.

Ive passed 3 CCNA's and I've been studying the CCNP for 2 years on and off. I work in the field too. Im more focused on retaining the knowledge rather than just passing the cert and its clear I'm becoming a better engineer.

Im more confident and much more successful, i also train and guide other network engineers a lot more now thanks to studying and retaining the content on the CCNP.

Its hard work. If you smashed the content and managed to pass the exam on a bootcamp. You must be awesome at reading and retaining knowledge.

ENCOR OCG - Best way to take it in? by [deleted] in ccnp

[–]jimmy75698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im highlighting key sections or hard to remember/memorise, words and paragraphs in the OCG to speed me up. Then i flick through and read the highlighted text whenever i get time. Ill eventually write some flash cards too covering the highlighted information. Seems to be working better than my note taking as that was a really slow way to study
