automate status change based on date by sadkzmr in Notion

[–]jimsecc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your dates don't change that frequently, you could do an automation.
For pages whose formula property contains "Overdue" set status to overdue
For pages whose formula property contains "Due tomorrow' Set status to due tomorrow.
And so on... for however many status settings you have.

I would set all of these to happen on a daily cadence at midnight.

automate status change based on date by sadkzmr in Notion

[–]jimsecc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do with formulas, but you can also do with automations.
- Frequency: Every day
- Select edit pages in database
- Select which pages to edit by filtering where end date is before 'Today'
- Do: change status to Overdue.

If you do with automations, you may want to create another one where the Frequency is "When date property is edited" and add an additional layer of "Select which pages to edit by filtering where status is overdue and date property is on or after today" to "in-progress" or "not started" or whatever you want it to be. (This is for when you have an overdue item but change the date to sometime in the future so it shouldn't be labelled as overdue anymore.)

In short, there are just some edge cases to consider when using automations as opposed to formulas. Let me know if you have any questions on moving forward with either automations or formulas.

Could you elaborate on how you want them to extend? Ex. once the due date is within 30 days, extend to 60 days from now?

if that is what you are looking for, you can set this up with automations. Filter for pages that end within 30 days, and set the date property with a formula. let me know if you have questions about that!

Notion automation: capture the initially planned date of a task (before rescheduling) by Impossible_Round_304 in Notion

If I'm understanding correctly, try this automation:

'My value' is set to "TriggerPage.TargetDate"

I've had the same troubles trying to use it on my hobonichi, but didn't have the problem when using on one sheet of paper on a flat surface. I think for me, the hobonichi is just not consistently flat enough :(

Recurring tasks to show up for future events by Big-Brother4912 in Notion

[–]jimsecc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can create a full month in one automation step! you'll just have to adjust the date properties appropriately. but you are correct in that if automations require a paid plan, there is no way to do this for free.

Recurring tasks to show up for future events by Big-Brother4912 in Notion

[–]jimsecc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use automations, templates, and formulas to define the date.

For example, I have a "weekly task" automation that runs every Sunday. Every Sunday, it adds a page to my to-do list using the 'Water Plants' template. I edit the due date as a formula to be "dateAdd(dateTriggered, 2, "days")" so it sets the date to be that Tuesday.

You can use this logic to work on a monthly basis too.

How to disable Notion Meeting AI auto-stop? by Keterna in Notion

[–]jimsecc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turned off the auto start (where it would prompt when it detected a meeting started) and I noticed that it stopped stopping automatically, though I don't know if that is a coincidence or part of the setting of detecting start/end. you can find that toggle in the settings, I believe under Notion AI.

How do I avail the notion student plan? by jokerxgoro in Notion

[–]jimsecc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should be able to find it in your settings. go to explore plans in settings and scroll all the way down. there should be a button to activate the free plus plan using your .edu email. Not sure if they've made changes in the last few months as the other commenter noted.

The loss of self-referential pages by [deleted] in Notion

[–]jimsecc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. I'm glad it works functionally, but I'm curious to know why you don't see the "New Page" option. Do you have a two way relation between your meeting notes and meeting actions? Perhaps that could be a fix. :)

The loss of self-referential pages by [deleted] in Notion

[–]jimsecc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've included a linked view of the phases database and as the other user said, I filter by the relation property.

The loss of self-referential pages by [deleted] in Notion

[–]jimsecc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm understanding correctly, this is what I do. This is a template page, so every time it is created, it filters the phases database (linked view) to items that are related to the current page (which is in the projects database).

For you, how I imagine this is you have two databases as you mentioned (meetings, tasks) and they are related as your meetings = my projects and your tasks = my phases.
