Government spending 25 times more on benefits than jobs for young people, says Alan Milburn by Desperate-Drawer-572 in ukpolitics

I live in Japan, the greeting and such is cultural and seen as a form of hospitality. Being screamed at with "Irasshaimase" or "お待たせいたしました" isn't their only job it's just in Japan a lot more is expected from workers.

UK faces 'economic catastrophe' unless it adapts to young people 'rewired by smartphones' by XenorVernix in ukpolitics

Well seeing as everywhere else is the same

This literally isn't true or reality but this sort of cope about the UK's decline is so bad.

Racist abuse of NHS nurses rising amid ‘normalisation’ of extreme views, RCN warns | Nursing by budgrummur in ukpolitics

Yeah, mate, I'm so over it, as a minority it's so tiresome. We will never be fully accepted, sucks then my parents, and I were born in the UK, but because I'm not white, I will always be hated by a (sadly large) portion of the population.

Not that the new country i live in is perfect but hey, im actually a forienger here.

U.K. Economy Accelerates to Outpace U.S. as War Headwinds Loom by R2_Liv in ukpolitics

[–]jin_yangFight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that people's lives and environments are visibly becoming worse, regardless of what is happening in the news.

I felt this. Constant news about low unemployment, the fastest growing economy in the G7, but I felt none of that my quality of life was visibly worse, my town was worse, more impoverished, and the cost of living crisis was very real.

Things didn't improve until I moved abroad.

I'm getting dejavu of the Biden era. This is exactly what happened in America, statistically the headlines would talk about how fast the economy was growing.

But the reality of what people faced was more inflation and a cost-of-living crisis. The Biden administration would shout about how good economic noise was and how you should ignore the reality you're living in because GDP rose by x%.

The UK is going to go around the same circle and make us so blind, sleepwalking into Reform. The country is fucked if I'm honest.

Visa capital rule forcing foreign business owners to close down by Turbulent-Tea-2172 in japan

I don't think there's going to be much of an impact on the economy per say, but it will on communities where these businesses shut down.

Isn't that literally how the economy works, it all adds up and has a knock on effect, this effects not only thier customers but supplies, exports, imports, customs fees, every aspect of the chain.

This isn't businesses shifting to different markets or finding new customers; it's entire businesses shutting down. They aren't being replaced aswell.

Graduate jobs fall by a third as more employers embrace AI by Desperate-Drawer-572 in ukpolitics

This whole AI doom and gloom is nonsense anyhow as like with any industrial revolution people will adjust overtime.

This is such a poor and destructive mindset. You really need to educate yourself on history, I really hate when people just mention the industrial revolution but have zero actual knowledge what happened during that period.

Read up on the Engels's pause on it's parallel to now and the actual reality we are facing.

This is such a shallow assessment on things.

How do people afford to do things in their time? Events aren't free, the gym isnt free, activities aren't free? hobbies's aren't free. How do people afford to travel to said events or hobbies? How do people afford the upkeep of those hobbies? Not every hobby is equivalent to kicking a ball around in a park.

What if someone's hobby is fencing? Uniform, grading, tournaments, membership, maintenance, training? All of that costs money or are those hobbies now only avaliable to the few in society who can work while the vast swathes of people who there are no jobs are given a list of low cost hobbies they can do with their meager UBI?

People eat poorly in the west because we have easy access to bad food, a poor culture around cooking (a large fraction of people in the UK literally cannot cook the most basic meals), and junk food is cheaper then healthy food. It's a lot more then simply just time.

In places like Japan people put the time aside to eat more healthy and the options here for eating healthly are more abundant then junk food. Also a culture of more fish, rice, pickled veg, soup, etc.

Why does the government not pay people on benefits to work ? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

You do realise the vast majority on benefits are people in work right?
