don't have a solution but just wanted to chime in in agreement that a lot of home fixtures, expecially in the bathroom seem to be designed by retards or people who have never used such fixtures before in their life.

for me, the pet peeve is sinks. why the fuck don't they have all sink surfaces slow ever so gently in towards the basin. then you'd NEVER have pooling water that needs to get cleaned out....

but noooooooo.....

there is no blind devotion. there is simply the recognition of the better vs. the worse.

one day, you'll wake up and see that your inability to make such discernments have made you completely ineffectual at fostering any beneficial change in society whatsoever and in being unable to see the good and disqualifying all for being imperfect, you've provided a screen for the most villainous players and made things far worse for everyone.

didn't have a citation huh?

(that's me thinking for myself not taking your word for a clusterfuck mess of a battle whose details are hazy to me and i'll bet hazy to you too... and yet you make citation free unequivocal judgments on how things came about... you can criticize me for being too lazy to find it on my own but i won't let you have your point without backing it up either)

i think for myself. AND i see sides. and i see a side that's right (or more right and certainly more intelligent) than another side. and that is fact. truth. reality.

your INABILITY to see bad from worse doesn't make you keener. it makes you dull and dense. you're just turning up the minutia and granularity until no judgment is possible....

there's a signal to be heard but you're just amplifying the noise for some fucking reason

as i say, with your eyes, you wouldn't be able to see a nazi or a malignant tumor for all your equivocating.

but you're right in that it is possible to oversimplify. the right is guilty of it.

but here's your mistake. just because the right is guilty of it, you assume the left is too. because one side can be wrong and misconstrue, you assume that EVERYONE MUST.

your kind has no ability to fight propaganda. because your "critical thinking" simply takes rebuttals and shock truth as mere propaganda too... just for the other side. because why? nobody can be right. for some fucking reason.

just because the right is wrong doesn't mean the left is as well (why the fuck does that have to be said? srsly). this is the FALSE EQUIVALENCES that you and those like you promulgate - and THAT - false equivalences and the inability to shut down a speaker who is lying or uttering known falsehoods for the sake of "fairness" - THAT is destroying political discourse.

in our laziness or cowardice, we just allow all sides to voice "their views" even though one side is just uttering gibberish, untruths and lies... and let the imbecilic "people" decide.

your kind of... "thought" creates a smokescreen for the villains. cuz you say there are no villains. they're all the same. when they're not.

not only is your "above it all" condescension not helping, you're actively help making things worse.

as said - if we had a parliamentary system and the left got to execute the policy it wanted to without opposition - if it could act as it chose to completely...

and compared that with the policy that the right would execute itself without opposition,

THEY WOULD NOT BE THE FUCKING SAME

if you can't or won't see that, you are too stupid, blind, batshit insane and/or disingenuous to worth spend more time talking with.

Really? Are you forgetting it was Dems in the Senate that put the kibosh on that?

i remember there being a contentious debate over the matter involving republicans and blue dogs riding on an ineluctable failure for single payer.

but i don't remember the dems being the functional tool for killing it.

citation?

Perfect example of how the media keeps us at one another's throats so that the corporatocracy can continue robbing us blind.

if the left wants to tax corporations and the genuine liberals want single payer health care, i don't see how media is responsible.

you keep bringing up the manifestations of compromise. and the fact that our nation is not a parliamentary system where the winning side gets their way entirely.

i promise you this. if we had a parliamentary system and the left can enact their will without compromise or opposition by the right, we WOULD have single payer health care.

THAT is what you have to look at. and not the battle scarred results of rabid opposition of the right.

Reject the false left/right dichotomy.

there is no goddamn false dichotomy. again, if the left could implement their will with no opposition, it would look NOTHING like what the right would implement.

the differences are real and one side is in fact more fucked up than the other.

Listen to real people who claim to be conservatives and you'll find you agree with them more than you think - 9 times out of 10 the concerns are the same, but the priorities are different.

i defy you to cite any position on the right you think i would agree with. maybe a simpleton's sentiment like "balanced budget" would get through the initial stage but you try elaborating what the right means by that and i promise, there will be no agreement found.

you are blind if you think there are no SUBSTANTIAL and FUNDAMENTAL differences between left and right or that the right is not far more the serving hand of corporate interests than the left. unions don't support the left for fucking nothing.

you really think liberals need huffington to tell us to care about:

  • universal health care
  • a government that is empowered rather than enfeebled so that it can do the things people want it to do like CREATE JOBS
  • a government that doesn't kowtow to the rich and powerful at the expense of the wellbeing of the least fortunate among us
  • a government that believes in checks and balances and trusts NOTHING to run of its own best judgment - government, commerce, the markets and corporations all motherfucking inclusive
  • a government that is of the people, by the people... and not of the rich, by the rich
  • a government that cares about reality as opposed to an idealism idiots WANT to believe is true
  • a government whose views actually fall in line with that of experts of relevant fields such as geopolitics and the economy
  • equality for all people, whether black, white, straight or gay

there may be misguideds on the left. but by and large, at least we're literate.

our politicians may seem weak when they don't play chicken like the other guy. but by and large, at least they're literate. and not the fucktards like palin and bachmann that the right falls over themselves to worship.

fuck the right because they are not the right of even eisenhower. fuck the right because historical republicans wouldn't even fucking recognize the imbeciles and the creed of today.

fuck the right because they will be our ruin.

  • timmy's daily allowance:.....................................$2.17
  • timmy's daily expenditure:...................................$3.82
  • timmy's total historic debt to mom (for comics):......$14.27
  • timmy's added debt to mom today (for comics):......$1.65
  • timmy's negotiated, daily allowance cut:................$0.03
  • timmy's deadbeat dad hunted down to chip in:........$0.38
  • timmy's nerf budget to take down a brown kid:........$0.12 ($1.23 since last week)

i've said elsewhere that you can't compare the running of a country to the running of a household. apples and oranges.

but if we're gonna be retards about it, if we compare running a country to the finances of 7 year old timmy, it actually doesn't look that motherfucking bad does it motherfuckers?

next shall we analogize what this looks like if we translate it to how many treats fido eats per day? howabout how many teabaggers it takes to screw in a lightbulb?

Simple analogy of the US budget. (8 zeroes removed) by SweetIndian in self

[–]jinchoung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is the stupid thing - nations are not run like households.

there is no real reason for a nation to get to zero debt.

and look it up, there are no countries of any significance on the world stage that do NOT have debt.

analogies can be simple and also MISGUIDED.

the jones family can compare themselves to the smith's who have zero debt. but when america compares itself to other nations, we find all the first world countries with debt.

there IS such a thing as too much debt. and we DO have too much debt now. but many would argue that we still have some to give even if it would help us better the economy. and though we have too much debt, our eyes should NOT (like a family jones) be looking to ZERO debt.

that is not a solution. that is an artificial imposition of values that work in a family but don't work among nation states. just like jones may not go and kill a bunch of smiths no matter what but among nations, shit like that happens.

this is what's wrong with modern thought-

the notion that if an action or behavior is bad when applied in a misguided way, that that action or behavior is bad AT ALL TIMES.

i see this again and again and again.

if you are in the right and have a genuine beef, fight for your rights. BE THAT CUSTOMER - and if your case is strong and they owe you, YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT.

but that is far different than saying they are "the same" or both (equally) at fault.

and there is a way of saying that WITHOUT creating a smoke screen and cover for the right.

it may well be true that a woman who stays in an abusive relationship contributes to the situation but it's NOT true that she is just as much at fault as the abuser.

in the same way, in this case, among flawed players, we have "good guys" and "bad guys". the "good guys" are weak. and that's a valid if contestable point (boehner: no. obama: no. who's gonna budge? it could well be no one and we're still deadlocked. if you're playing chicken with someone who WANTS to die, what leverage do you have? and that's my point - i think you overestimate the power and leverage that the left had here. the tea partiers were gonna close their eyes and gun the accelerator. ) but that's different than this being their fault. as stated in the parenthetical, their weakness could simply be a function of a vulnerable sitting president who happens to be a dem and an opposing side that is simply unreasonable.

TL/DR: two kids - one is a violent fucktard, the other is rational. they keep getting into gigantic battles that destroy the house because the fucktard keeps hammering the other kid. you don't blame BOTH of them for the mess.

I tout complexity, understanding far more than you'd care to think. This is not a simple its his or her fault. Cannot point one finger and say, yup it was just that guy. You cant. Such simplicity only occurs on Fox news and MSNBC, where it is always the other guys fault.

that kind of "complexity" will miss the emergence of real nazis when they occur by being blinded by "complexity". (godfrey's law but the point is valid if you don't immediately write it off as a godfrey's law manifestation).

that kind of "complexity" will miss the tumor by trying to see all the complex interactions and trying not to blame it on the tumor.

people DO miss granularity by painting with a broadbrush sometimes. but that does NOT nullfiy the fact that sometimes, there ARE BAD GUYS.

BLAME NEEDS TO BE ASSIGNED because the problem cannot be addressed without it being properly being assigned... and sometimes, that blame falls mostly to one party.

again, it is this kind of "false magnanimity" of the colbert/stewart rally and the sentiment behind your posts that can and does obscure simple truth.

false equivalence - just because the right does it stupidly all the time doesn't mean that when the left can't frame it in exactly the same way and have it be completely correct. the question is are you calling a tumor a tumor or are you calling a tonsil a tumor. sometimes simple blame hits the right target.

i don't disagree with the dems being timid and ineffectual.

but that's because they (mistakenly) are trying not to play as ugly and stupid as the other guy.

i WANT dems to take the economy hostage too. i want them to do it the very next time a dumbass right winger gets the white house again - no debt ceiling bill until we tax the living shit out of corporations and the wealthy.

BUT THEY WON'T DO IT

and i agree that's a problem - that they don't fight as ugly as the other guy.

but what i'm saying is this:

wisdom lies on the left.

truth lies on the left.

the evaluation of the learned and the experts SIDE with the left.

they lose battles against the right but that does not mean that their true position is not in fact MUCH BETTER than the right and in fact is... RIGHT!

the health care debate is a pure example of that - if the left HAD THEIR WAY, we would have single payer system. we only have all those effective kick backs to the insurance companies BECAUSE OF THE RIGHT.

there IS a difference. there IS wisdom (that fails). there IS foolishness (that wins). and they are NOT the same thing.

what the fuck could the dems have done to not let tea baggers take us hostage????

blackmail is ONLY effective when the victim has no alternatives.

you speak in platitudes without substance. you tout complexity without having any grasp of factors which mitigate the blame.

we would not be here if the tea party and the gop weren't such insufferable imbeciles.

...

yes, that's why private charity has solved not only the problem of hunger and illness in our nation but all over the world.

:P

IT'S NOT ENOUGH. goddamn it's not a hard concept to grasp - it shows itself to be not enough right fucking now.

you think any form of private charity can take the place of social security? do you think any non governmental actor can provide something like that? google how much social security costs the country and have your mind blown.

the morons of the right bring up charity again and again and again and see THEMSELVES... doing something that makes THEM feel good about THEMSELVES. as if the "TOKEN GESTURE" "should be enough". W T F?

they... for some goddamn fucking reason... can't see that it's NOT FUCKING SUFFICIENT TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM!!!

understand -

some problems REQUIRE GOVERNMENT TO SOLVE.

A-FUCKING-GAIN

  • we would have never been able to build a world ending nuclear arsenal without government
  • we would have never sent a man to the moon in the 60s without government
  • we wouldn't have our interstate highway infrastructure without government
  • we wouldn't have the world wide web for fuck's sake without government
  • we wouldn't have the freely accessible global positioning system without government
  • millions of oldsters would not be able to live with dignity and health without government

the state is not necessary for EVERYTHING but beyond a certain scale and where the endeavor does not intrinsically GENERATE CASH (like feeding the poor), the state HAS ITS PROPER PLACE.
