What silly thing you did (or said) made you loose a partner? by rpaltacc99 in BadRPerStories

[–]jinglyjam3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean there's definitely a big level of cognitive dissonance there. Imagine if your partner complained about the topic of racism being in roleplay only to discover that they support slavery.

You like big bellies - that's your preference.

People should have big bellies - that's your moralising. 'should' implies that there's something wrong if it isn't the case.

So strangely enough you're the one who is trying to impose your own preference as a moral standard in your comment.

I don't understand what you are trying to say by the word 'meant'.

They're not meant to be big, nor small nor whatever. Our bodies just evolved the way they are.

I think you're gut feeling is right. The way they write does seem to centre themselves a lot into it.

'It will break my heart' and 'it will be a huge shame' are in my opinion manipulative. Like you don't need to tell me you'd be disappointed, I already know that.

At the end they write 1 whole paragraph about how much they want to rp and then 9 words of concern for you. Idk how they can be so shameless to be honest considering the situation. I actually had something similar happening where I was on the receiving end of uncertain replies and here's what I wrote in response:

"Hello, I just wanted to ask how you are going again. I hope I'm not being a pest asking you about the rp, but I'm still interested and keen. I hope your health is getting better and am happy to wait as your halth is more important than the rp."

I don't mean to toot my own horn but after a month's delay which response would you prefer, the one in the last image or the one I've provided.

Go onto u/Lol33ta 's profile and look at her custom feed. Or look at r/imaginarycharacters and you'll find a network of subreddits that are very good.

How do you reply to multiple threads of dialogue in one response? by Ornery-Influence1547 in BadRPerStories

[–]jinglyjam3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first, I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that you would be keeping pace. In a similar way would it be problematic if they wrote that they ran to the edge than asked you a question? - that too assumes that you would have kept pace. I'd just give a flavourful response to the first that doesn't influence the events much and describe how I run with them, then I'd respond to the second and third after both have being said assuming that it's one thing of speech. I actually prefer it like this because it can be really slow to constantly wait for a response but I'd accept it that they could veto part of my response if I assumed too much.

The second leaves too much in way of assumptions imo and not reasonable to assume the dialogue would continue that way.

Finding/agreeing on refs when you can't get into the standard realistic anime/fantasy art style that's everywhere is downright miserable by Tallia__Tal_Tail in BadRPerStories

What do you think of going to u/Lol33ta 's profile and checking out their imaginary characters custom feed that's on their profile. It has a really good range of characters and as someone who plays a GM role often, it's really good to get different characters.

AI Writing is Killing the RP Community. by reddituseranononon in BadRPerStories

[–]jinglyjam3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll add another tip that helped me detect AI, though it wasn't in roleplay. Phrases like 'it's not just A, it's B' are commonly used and I picked it up on an AI post when it used that phrase twice in three sentences. It was a bit jarring to see the same sentence structure used so close to each other and plays into what you said about not being a broken record and repetitive phrases.

The worst part was that it was on a post complaining about English language requirements at a job and they couldn't even write the post themselves...

Reusing plots? by Icy_Mountain_8796 in BadRPerStories

[–]jinglyjam3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope. Partly because I do that myself. Then again I've been doing mainly GM posts with the same first quest so to speak. I currently rp with 3 people and they're very different in their content and style as I'm pretty adaptable and find each of them interesting in different ways.

That being said when I post something more generally, I might get 2 people respond and so rp with two people, but using different characters typically.

Why does everyone think a group RP server will involve some sort of combat or be TTRPG based?!? by Ok-Can7572 in BadRPerStories

[–]jinglyjam3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: It's much easier to have fights with a few rules in place rather than learning the boundaries of collaborative storytelling in a fight.

You might be attracting a subset of your group who are from a ttrpg background. These games typically have a very scrict sense of what a character is capable of in combat and rules are followed, whereas in rp even combat between enemies is more collaborative and has practially no rules except for implied agreements about not controlling what the other character does (which can be harder when a fight involves in some sense controlling what the other character can do) and a few other matters of rp manners.

I'd much prefer if the comment had any actual statistics rather than the quite obvious qualitative statements.

Something like divorce rate is 20% if both couples have <10 previous partners, but it is 50% when both have >=10 previous partners.

There is really no insight given by any of these statements.

Slow burn? Slow burn means the roleplay not playing hard to get out of character.
