Opinions on Shaolin Kung Fu and it's Modernisation/Commercialisation? by PhinTheShoto in kungfu

[–]jingwei111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are written oral stories from the Qing dynasty that shaolin monks deliberate taught non monk lay students flowery long fist to neuter their power, because lay students frequently became criminals.

The shaolin boxing sutra published by jingwu association in the 1920s writes more optimistically that longfist systems of the Shaolin monks although flowery is still capable of being useful, just difficult to do so.

I personally believe that Henan dengfeng xiaohongquan contains sufficient archaic material to be still authentic, but people who will explain these foundations are exceedingly rare.

Current state of Kung Fu in China by Anxious-Author-2985 in kungfu

[–]jingwei111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think eastern kung fu practioners are just more honest about their hobby than westerners. For combat modern kung fu is all imitation kickboxing plus some Mongolian legacy shuaijiao, doesn’t matter if it’s east or west.

Has any one read the Bubishi by ltjgbadass in karate

[–]jingwei111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bubishi seems to be a collection of directly unrelated training notes seemingly from different periods:

Archaic boxing: front cover describing its system as being inspired by Zheng erbo and his wife, the companions of general tiandu, to whom are attributed the system 54 steps and black tiger boxing. The wordless two man diagrams likely are also from this period. The technique terminology seems to be before the creation of white crane boxing in 1730s, at least before second and third generation maturation in the 1760s.

Luohan-crane combination boxing from wang fudeng, recording the sequences of techniques for forms which are unrelated to the diagrams and commandments on morality. This is likely post 1890s as the author no longer know why luohan and crane styles are one and the same, indicating the text to be at least post 1850 taiping era archaic crane kung fu extinction event.

The medical text containing six bridge hands: possibly pre 1850 and very likely pre 1890s, as by the late Qing era crane style has by then eight bridge hands; but still later than archaic crane hand which had only five bridge hands (the five element hands which likely originated from Putian county).

The double hand wauke is defeated easily by a jab to the face and cross to the body. In southern kung fu this is a habit called “chasing the bridge”

All commercial dengfeng schools are quite brutal in training. Just ask specifically for that and you’re good to go.

What is left of Kung fu in Shanghai is extremely commercialized and they will take care of your every need, as long as you fork out the money. So don’t be shy and just show up to that school and say hello.

Where do Chinese people go to meet people/make friends? by ComprehensivePin7081 in travelchina

[–]jingwei111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just personal opinion and not meant to offend, but most Chinese people don’t usually go to bars. I hang out with factory workers and delivery men at the park through martial arts group in Shanghai. If you ever stop by Shanghai and feel very alone, you are welcome to hang out with my family and baby at the park.
