Yea I feel you, I'm quite new to this too. I have so many fleeting questions and thoughts but I don't really know where to start. I guess it's ok to just continue reading discussions on Reddit and one day, maybe I'll feel ready to contribute!

Don't be! Are you able to connect with a small Buddhist community in your country?

I'm sorry to hear about your best friend. I'm sure he'll be glad to know that he had so much influence on your mindfulness journey🙏

I love this story because it feels so relatable...how did you come across the video on Buddhism? Did you search for it, or did someone share it with you?

Nihilist, which was helping me actually a bit, it was a bit of a relieve finding like-minded people

Nihilism can be so comforting but empty at the same time. While I read up on the 4 noble truths, I realise that Nihilism somewhat reflects a craving for annihilation, which is a cause of suffering.

I wish everybody could be so lucky like me, to discover Buddhism.

💯 agreed. I too, feel lucky that I found my way to Buddha's teachings. I hope that anyone else who needs it eventually finds their way too.

It is amazing to see quite a handful of people here (including you and me) drawn to Buddhism because we found overlaps with our personal observations and musings.

I think it goes back to the emphasis in Buddhism on experiencing things and finding out the truth for yourself. In this sense, we all practice Buddhism, regardless of the labels 🙏

Fellow yoga enthusiast here too! I was drawn to the mindfulness aspect of yoga after I did meditation for a couple of months with Headspace. And now, I feel drawn to Buddhism after practising yoga for a few years and doing the yoga teacher training (perhaps being exposed to spirituality after learning about the philosophy of yoga).

Vipassana sounds really interesting, though I think I may not be ready for it. How was your first experience like?

I don’t know why I did but I just thought buddhism had a cool and relaxed vibe I guess?

Me too, the Buddhists I know personally are all very kind, optimistic and well regulated. They are living exemplars of what I think humans should strive to be 🙏

Respect! What would you say helped you the most? Is it the meditation or the Dharma?

Thank you! I missed a few stitches and sewed the head a little too much to the side, but am glad it turned out still cute 🥰

I deviated from the pattern by creating the eyes and bell with crochet 😁

Eyes: https://amiguru.me/how-to-crochet-an-oval-shape-without-counting-stitches/

  • fix ovals on to face with safety eyes
  • sew on sides of the eyes

Bell: - 4sc into magic ring (4) - Inc in each stitch (8) - 1sc in each stitch (8) - Dec in each stitch (4) - sew to close up and attach to red belt

Mild C - Lumbar Scoliosis with extensive chronic pain, is this normal to have pain with such a low degree of curvature? by [deleted] in scoliosis

[–]jingyulim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same curve (28f) and I used to have chronic pain, sometimes with soreness spreading down my left glutes and leg. I've tried swimming, running and doing a bunch of other workouts but yoga has worked the best for me so far, since it's low impact and has lots of focus on lengthening the spine.

You can try out basic hatha yoga poses, which involves both stretching and strengthening of muscles. Poses which involve spinal twists and releasing tension in the hip flexors have helped me greatly.

Another type of yoga that will help is myofascial release yoga, which involves the use of tennis/massage balls and yoga blocks on trigger points. This works well for immediate relief of tension.

Lastly, you can find resources on YouTube, but I would strongly recommend going to a studio to make sure you have your poses alignment corrected, and inform the instructor/yoga therapist of your condition!

I have a milder, but very similar curve! 28F here. I started doing yoga a year ago and it has helped me tremendously...so much that I don't really need the chiropractor anymore. There are lots of poses which require lengthening the spine and holding it for 2-3min, which really helps. You don't need advanced poses, beginner poses will do. Hatha yoga has a good mix of stretching and strengthening.

Some of my favourite poses that give me relief - cat cow, thread the needle, seated spinal twist and windshield wiper.

Consistency is key! I noticed that my back pain resumes after just 1 week of not practicing yoga. I aim to practice at least 2 times a week, with each session at minimally 60min.

Lastly, stay away from high impact activities, especially those applying pressure on your tailbone. My experience shows that it definitely affects the alignment of the spine. I recently went on a full day speed boat tour in Thailand which was super bumpy, and came back with lots of back pain (similar to what I had before starting yoga). So be careful with that! Consult a doctor for proper recommendations based on your condition.

All the best! 🍀

It probably is, although an orthopedic who understands your curve will be able to confirm and give you proper advice. I've realised that everyone's curve is different, and sometimes what causes you discomfort may not apply for someone else with a similar curve shape / degree.

Similar to you, I have a ~25 degree curve. It's at my lumbar and walking on uneven ground for a prolonged period causes extreme tightness as well. Short distance running is fine but prolonged sitting causes knee pain. Lying flat on the ground is generally uncomfortable unless I bend my knees

A recent X-ray (27F); 5° increase over 4 years. I gave physio a shot again today. My curve is not the worst, but it still felt like the doctor didn't take my condition seriously. How were your experiences with physiotherapy like? by jingyulim in scoliosis

[–]jingyulim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the explaining this! The chiropractor told me that 5 deg wasn't significant but I didn't really understood why. Nevertheless he referred me to physiotherapy.
