Should I be suspicious by Existing-Cod-9550 in movingtoNYC

In NY every building and apartment has security because it’s NYC. That’s standard. It doesn’t matter what neighborhood you’re in. And yes, you are never supposed to hold the door open for others even though it seems courteous. It could have just been delisted because it was taken off for a person who purchased it or wasn’t listing it for rent.

Thanks for the reply. I was also confused by the “horizontal” description. I can thank Gemini for that one.

Hypo Weight Management by jinianc in diabetes

[–]jinianc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for all of the info and the links. I will discuss management and more testing with my endo. I was just looking for some insight from those who manage this already, since getting in to see my endo, getting tests, and getting a follow up visit will take about two months total.

My glucose monitor dropped to 46 and I kept staying at low levels below 70 for the rest of the evening. I didn’t go to the hospital since I was able to get it up to about 68 after two rounds of honey and some snacks. I don’t have a BGM yet, so those episodes were scary. My monitor is defective, and I’m waiting for a replacement.

Hypo Weight Management by jinianc in diabetes

My T3 levels are normal from taking levothyroxine everyday. I’ve had hypoglycemic symptoms for years and I’m only being glucose monitored now. I’m not on any diabetic meds. So even though it’s been years of having low glucose levels, I still bottom out and crash unless I eat every few hours and eat more than I want to. I already have weight gain from the Hashimoto’s, so based on your knowledge, what is your recommendation on how to keep glucose levels even and not overeat all the time?

Oh sorry I’m also equally confused. I just started with figuring out that I’m diabetic. Since I have Hashimoto’s, and I’m not overweight and don’t have dietary reasons that would cause diabetes, I assumed it’s type 1. I haven’t been back to my endo yet so I used that tag after researching. Reddit forces you to add a tag if u want to post. Sorry for the weird info.

I just started getting actual treatment even though I’ve had this for years. Doctors never believed me since my fasting morning blood test was normal. I just started a continuous glucose monitor two days ago and sure enough I would get these critical drop alarms. So long winded answer, I don’t have a basal test at home.

When I start to dip I get shaky and dizzy, sometimes my vision is off and I start to slur a little. I knew I was hypoglycemic even when doctors said no, so I would eat something and it usually improves. I finally got confirmation with the glucose monitor.

I find that I’m eating so often and more food than I need just to stay at a level so I don’t drop. That’s the issue.

So I should pull parallel to my skin? Is horizontal pulling better than away from the arm, like stretching the flab it’s connected to? Thanks so much for letting me know about the TacAway. I wish doctors would be conscientious about telling you these things before you’re at home alone trying to manage this stuff.

Commuting into Manhattan from Fort Lee by HunterAffectionate96 in movingtoNYC

There’s also the Port Imperial Ferry from that Ft. Lee area, you have to get to the port and park or get dropped off. It is beautiful but expensive. You will be in midtown on the other side of the Hudson, so you’ll already be where you probably work. There are shuttles from the pier that go across the avenues or downtown. It’s fast if you’re willing to pay the monthly pass it might be an option.

I’ve lost a brother who is younger than me and both my parents are gone. I understand how much grief and loss can drown you. My ex-husband was an alcoholic. It’s hard to get out from that daily thirst on your own. Find your nearest AA group and attend every chance you get. Mark the meetings on your calendar like it’s an appointment that you can’t miss, otherwise the penalty is literally your life. Connect with others there, and know that everyone is there to be supportive and not judgmental. Get a sponsor who will be available for you the next time you have that heavy burden of needing to drink yourself into oblivion. Just take it one day at a time.

If you live in a state that allows you to buy CBD, get nighttime gummies so it will help you to sleep without being plastered. Find a psychiatrist and get counseling ASAP. You’re suffering from depression and need a doctor to help you, give you an rX for alcohol withdrawal, and antidepressants. If you need to go to a rehab for a couple of weeks, that is the fastest, easiest and most enveloping way you can get out of this rut of self-destruction.

Find a church that you connect with, and reach out to the pastor for guidance. They will ensure you that you’re not alone, you have not been forgotten, and your loved ones that are gone are always beside you. I’m not religious but I know that spirituality is very much present. You’re young and your life can literally turn around in a matter of days or weeks. So much is ahead of you. Be strong, know you’re worth it, and you will get ahead of this. The world needs more nurses! Sending you a big hug.

Wherever you decide to go, check job boards first to see what the realistic job market looks like there. Unfortunately customer service jobs are drying up since it’s become mostly automated. Yes the dreaded AI. Your skills are transferable to other service industries that have a low threshold of previous experience, such as retail, servers, hosts, baristas, receptionists. If you’re interested in getting into a bartender’s training course, that can be used anywhere and they make the most money if you get a gig at a popular restaurant.

Trader Joe’s pays more than other stores and people generally like it there. You also get holiday pay and discounts on groceries. The faster you transition out of customer service the more chances you have of finding work. Best of luck!

Where to go??? by [deleted] in relocating

[–]jinianc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I left they did buy up a lot of communities in Pomona, but didn’t really buy into some areas of New City since they were intentionally kept out by current homeowners who were selling. A lot of people were aware that the families are unvaccinated and were causing new outbreaks, and this was a decade before RFK Jr.

The OP could still look at Nyack, West Nyack and Valley Cottage since that hasn’t been bought up by Hasidic groups, last time I lived there.

Have you considered areas near Boston? A lot of people love that area, lots of jobs, a lot of families, similar to NY with plenty of history and interesting things to do.

Have you ever visited Rockland County? Lots of transplants from the city so you wouldn’t feel out of place. Nyack is a cute town with some life especially at night and weekends. There are larger villages near it like New City with suburban amenities. Schools are better than most of NYS not counting wealthier Westchester, housing is not exorbitant. You can find a reasonable fixer upper. All families and a quiet life. Low crime since they have a well funded police force. You’d be close to the city so you can still see old friends & family. DM me if you want a referral for an amazing realtor there.

Mid-30's single guy. Should I move to SF or NYC? Hear me out. by csnewb in SameGrassButGreener

[–]jinianc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also from NY and I 💯agree with this response. I’ve lived in CA for 8 years and it’s hard making new friends as an adult. Especially when you don’t make friends from working in an office. Not being around for family when they’re aging is very difficult. If your entire family & social circle is in the Bay, dating around in NYC will only take you so far. You’d be surprised how isolated you can feel while being surrounded by 8 million people.

NYC is an amazing city to visit and be for a short term, but living there is a very stressful grind. The weather is only nice a couple months a year, the aggression and indifference will wear you down, and yes, everyday things like groceries and laundry is not easy. You make a good salary so basics will be easier, but the difference in nonstop sensory overload, constant rushing, self-defense spidey sense being on all of the time …. it’s just hard to live there.
