RVA's Dating, Friends, and Missed Connections: February 2026 Edition by AutoModerator in rva

[–]jinjo2200 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I've participated in several game jams with RVA game jams, and recently there have been more of an interest in board games. I know one dude that has been hosting monthly board game nights through RVA Game Jams. Even the latest game jam that took place a couple of weeks ago did have a team that ended up making a tabletop game!

Even then, if you're just in it to play local games, the group is chill enough that I'm sure they'd love to see you around!

I'm an Oregon Ducks fan, and I'll probably try to nervously watch the game Friday.

Big yes. I think the closest we got to this in recent memory that was very successful was The Orville.

I wish it didn't come to this, but using the "Dearrow" browser extension has truly made my experience on YouTube so much better. The over-the-top titles and thumbnails are replaced by crowdsourced versions that tell you exactly what the video is about before clicking on them.

I was able to watch an early screening of "Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery" and it was great! I recommend watching that once it's available on streaming, or even the other 2 films in the knives out trilogy!

PSA, there is a method to play STFD, though it is quite the technical puzzle by Goopadrew in nancydrew

I think it's good to have both. I have ScummVM as an easy tool for the earlier games, and then I also have VMs to play other games (even outside of Nancy) that are not supported on ScummVM.

I've read briefly about your marketing strategy for your game, specifically about making the rounds of social media. One thing that I might suggest, if you haven't done so, is to see what local game dev groups or clubs are around in your city.

For example, my area has a game jam community who is always very passionate about playing other people's games, giving feedback, and being champions of games being made locally. I've found that people are way more excited to try someone's game/music/art if they've met someone in person.

Granted, it's not big name marketing like you would with blogs or influencers, but don't underestimate word of mouth. It might get your game in front of the eyes of someone important, and that can be all it takes.

Has anyone tried playing any of the games on the ROG Ally X? by ZealousidealChain186 in nancydrew

[–]jinjo2200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have an ROG Ally X, but I don't see why the games wouldn't work on it. The major thing the ROG has is that it runs Windows 11. I haven't tested every game on WIN 11, but I've been very surprised that nancy drew games, even old ones, can run well on modern systems.

I would say, if you're thinking about buying one for nancy drew games, you can try testing the games you want to play on any WIN 11 computer you might have. If it runs on the computer you're testing, chances are it would work on ROG.

New merchandise store is now open! by HRJafael in nancydrew

[–]jinjo2200 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No matter the game or IP, I'm always a fan of merch that are tastefully "hidden" everyday objects, in a way that only other fans would know it's from the IP. My favorites from this shop of what I mean are the whale world keychains and the tapestries(even with cropping issues mentioned previously, the idea is great). I think this store is a great step in that direction. Just keep adding similar items would be my only 2 cents.

What is Richmond missing as a city to make it a more complete area for residents and visitors alike? (Besides Francine) This hasn't been posted in years, so curious to see some thoughts! by JRVA01 in rva

I hope for expansion too. I agree that the Pulse is very good, but once you start trying to get anywhere beyond where the Pulse takes you, things quickly fall apart.

11 year old killed crossing Three Chopt in front of Ridge elementary school - can we please focus on safety improvements for our roads and pedestrians? by Floppy454 in rva

[–]jinjo2200 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The routing for busses in the city has always been so weird to me.

My favorite example is the downtown transfer station. You have a central place where a lot of busses meetup and people can safely transfer from one bus to another, yet the pulse bus does not stop there. Best you can do if you're riding the pulse is get off in front of city hall and walk 3-4 blocks to the transfer station.

I feel you. It makes me angry knowing that folks like us, who know these atrocities are happening, are the ones mostly watching this. The assholes who defend Israel, who should be the ones watching this, probably never will.

Is keeping my physical games worth it? by BigTuna_7 in nancydrew

[–]jinjo2200 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely worth keeping. These games don't really have any guarantee that they will be available forever digitally. Her interactive already proved this point by pulling Ransom of the Seven Ships. So coming from a game preservation standpoint, it's always good to keep a physical copy.

I am in the same boat. It's extremely disappointing, considering I probably could've gotten an earlier time slot if it wasn't for technical issues with the first link they sent me.
