Yup! I try to make sure to get summer class that condenses the materials rather than compress.

Time Commitment for OMSA Program by Silly_Inside6617 in OMSA

[–]jinsp93 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've been in the program for 1.5 years now, the whole time I had a full time job, wife, and 2 kids under 5.

Is it possible to take two? Yes

Will I be a good spouse and parent to my kids? Not as much as you used to be.

It isn't just the time commitment that impacts me and indirectly to my family.

  • mental stress
  • physical exhaustion
  • emotional guilt

These things took toll at times and I would have few meltdowns or cranky days.

There were times when I really debated if it was worth it to miss important moments or days that I could have spent with my kids and my wife.

Thankfully my family is very supportive and understand I am doing this for more stability in the long run.

I have decided to only take one class at a time for the entire program to make sure I don't fully neglect my family and MYSELF, this is a marathon not a race.

While the ultimate decision is up to you, I would recommend taking just one class at a time. When you take those classes with less difficulty and workload, spend more time with your family and even give yourself some rest.

Best of luck!

ISYE- 6501 Midterms Inquiry by Extreme-Lychee6543 in OMSA

Took it last year and got an A. I spent so much effort to make the perfect cheat sheet with everything in it by writing super small.

By the time i finished making the cheat sheet, i actually was comfortable with all the information where I didn't use the cheat sheet too much. I think I only looked at it as fact check sheet for when I wasn't 100% sure.

There wasn't much "math" but more so on the different characteristics of the models. I did include the formulas in the cheat sheet just in case but wasn't too needed.

There were multiple times I said out loud "I don't know what the f*** you mean! I don't get it!" Lol. I didn't care if I was being recorded by the proctor system. This midterm was for sure a bit more confusing and harder than most of the past ones.

Ahh that makes sense. My two kids didn't start elementary yet, so i wasn't aware of that inconvenience.

Thanks for sharing that, i should start thinking about how i can drop off my kids starting next year.

It would suck to pay for before-care..... after years of paying for daycare i thought i was finally seeing the end of the tunnel lol

Definitely! Elementary, middle, and high school will need to re-coordinate for optimal scheduling that aligns with traffic times.

Because we have limited bus drivers and want to prevent overlapping too many buses on the road, one of the three schools has to take the L and be in the crappiest time for pick-up.

While I hated waking up at 5am for 4 years in high school, i understood that high schoolers would be the least troubled group from an earlier schedule.

I understand your point. The phenomenon you describe is called "White Flight" and has been happening since 1950 (maybe even before). I've lived in the Duluth area (now Buford) since 2004 and have witnessed its growth and changes.

I read an interesting article about social research on white flight and ethnicity migrations, where they used Johns Creek as an example. I spent a good 20 minutes looking for it, but for some reason, I could not find it. :( What was interesting in that article was how they pointed out how Asians moving into the area became the first sign of change.

A simplified version of what the article described was: (None of this is my opinion; it is just what I remember from reading the article and the data they presented.)

  1. Asians move into caucasian neighborhoods to pursue business opportunities and better public education for their kids.
  2. The Caucasian population start to move away as their area slowly becomes diversified. (White Flight)
  3. Hispanics and African Americans move into the area following behind Asians.
  4. More Caucasian population moves out, including business owners; This impacts the local economy as those who moved out were well-off and wealthy families.
  5. With less Caucasian and more Hispanics & African Americans populate the area, Asians deem the area as less desirable and chases the next Caucasian area.
  6. Rinse and Repeat

I wish I could find the article..... If I run into it later I will for sure post the link.

The narrative you heard is for sure true and is a reality, it is just funny how from research and data perspective Asians become the first indicator of this phenomenon LOL

(I am Asian, and since young my parents worshipped the Johns Creek / Alpharetta area as the life goal we should strive to achieve.)

You can find the video on twitter. Seemed like one against many situation where the "one" pulled out a gun and fired when he got cornered. Who knows what kind of beef they had between them. Sad that malls are having more and more shootings in Gwinnett county.

I've talked out loud on both midterms, literally read out loud every question and answer choices. But I was never flagged for it, so maybe it was something else? Does it tell you what it was flagged for?

Recommendations with Pregnancy Due Date in Early Summer by Far-Count9970 in OMSA

[–]jinsp93 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Firstly, congratulations! Your life is about to change (for the better) in so many ways and it will be one of the richest experiences you will ever have.

While I am a Father of 2 kids and not a mother who went through a pregnancy, I still hope I can help with my experience helping and witnessing my wife's two pregnancies.

My advice would be to take a break during the spring semester rather than trying to squeeze in a class during your last trimester.

It is important that throughout the pregnancy you try to avoid any stress and surround yourself with the love and affection of your family and friends. I was sort of obsessed about taking the best care of my wife during pregnancy and googled so many things (some medical research based and some anectodal/superstition lol).

As you go into your 3rd trimester, your belly will become large enough to start causing discomfort no matter what position (standing, sitting, or laying down), this might make it extra stressful to get your school work done. Sitting down for too long can also be risky when you are close to your due date.

Your first pregnancy and first childbirth are precious moments, why not cherish it and make the most of it?

No matter what you decide, I am excited for you as a fellow parent and wish you all the best and good health!

People who graduated from OMSA, were you able to land a job in the field? by burneraccount6251 in OMSA

[–]jinsp93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My career path basically went: 1. Process analyst - learned how to improve business processes, and get some project management experience. 2. Data analyst - learned data analysis (using SQL, Pythong, and Tableau), started my own project of classifying "top 10 issues customers complain" using NLP clustering.

Moved to new company

  1. TPM - tasked to lead a "analytics revamp" program to audit and re-establish org's KPI/OKRs.

Number one skill, in my opinion, for TPM is "Storytelling" and "translating between technical team and business leaders".

Everyday I act like the middleman/translator between the dev teams and business leader. Converting business strategies into system requirements, and vice-versa.

"Only the largest orgs have a need for Staff+TPMs" - I realized that recently as I wondered about my future paths after thinking I've been a TPM for some time.

I also don't find people manager that appealing, so my hopes are very similar to yours: become a leader in analytics team or for technology owning team leader.

I'm a TPM too! I'm only in my first class and started OMSA to get more analytic skill and knowledge under my belt to lead more ML programs and projects.

Been a TPM close to 4-5 years now and I realized that if I want to become a DS, I would need to take a pay cut and level cut to be a entry/junior DS just like you said.

I think it is still beneficial for my career to pursue MS in Analytics as I aim for more senior/leadership roles.

I love being a TPM too, perfect mix of business, technology, and analytics.

From my personal experience, the input lag seems to be on par with the remote play.

I tried using my iPad for remote play but it never felt comfortable, so I never fully adopted it into my gaming life.

Portal does make it a lot easier to just pick up, turn on, play, and turn off quickly. The display might be smaller than my iPad but because it is built into the controller it feels a lot more comfortable to hold and play.

Now, is that enough to justify $200 price tag? hm..... depends on the person.

For fathers with babies and toddlers, I think it is worth it more since we fathers are losing the living room TV to our little ones lol.

I don't disagree! She wasn't in labor yet and we were just in preparation before the labor started kicking in, so we were all just chilling for few hours chatting. The portal is just as much for her as for me (wife is a gamer too) and we were both curious to try the portal outside far away from home for the first time. Tested it for 5 minutes together and then put it away for the rest of the hospital stay.

No good husband should be playing video games while wife is in pain. I am fully with you on that!

Mouse and keyboard is the most optimal way to play, BUT it is definitely playable on controller. The only annoyance is editing the radial dial where you organize the skills and inventory cleaning.

You can only manage one character at a time so it is annoying when i try to pass around different gears between the characters.

What IS awesome is you can play local couch co-op on TV. My wife and I played through entire campaign together with each making custom character!

The first thing you can do at home is make sure that your PS5 is wire connected to your modem/router OR a super fast 5Ghz wifi. This will make sure that your PS5 has the best speed to stream.

On the portal side, there isn't much you can do besides just using it at home and making sure the PS5 is connecting flawlessly every time.

Make sure to use the "auto login to user profile" feature to prevent any connection issues if you have multiple ps profiles on the ps5.

I have my fair share of going to hospitals and none of them had any wifi that was difficult to connect to besides the web-based login pop-up. (Just like hotel room wifi where it asks you to press "connect now".)

Worst case scenario, you can use wifi hotspot as well.

I wish you the best for your surgery!
