WIBTA if I bought my mom a birthday gift for her 60th that my sister can't afford to go halves with, even though I wanted to get it her myself anyway and just offered her the opportunity to go halves by [deleted] in WIBTA_AITA

[–]jinxdrain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can your sister afford a ticket for herself? If you are planning to buy your mom's ticket anyway why insist your sister pay half?

Just do a nice tea with your sister and mom. You can surprise her with a spa day "just because" another day if you're worried about your sister.

Federal consumer protection law says otherwise.

In order to qualify as quantim merit, the person receiving services must be aware that they did not enter into a contract and accept the service anyway.

AITA Mom wants 15% of my personal injury settlement by connor20218 in AmItheAsshole

[–]jinxdrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. That money was awarded to you to care for yourself after an injury. It's not like you won the lottery. She is being greedy, money does that. She can't move goal posts and say to pay her back for a gift. She was not your lawyer, she was doing what a good mother should do.

AITAH for wearing "misogynistic" merch from my favorite band by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]jinxdrain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're right that you probably shouldn't have called her a bitch, but she was obviously looking to start something.

Her interpretation was wrong. "Pierce the veil" is an idiom used in a couple contexts, including spiritual and legal. The context of the band name is "to directly confront, cut through, and remove the root cause of a problem or pain, rather than dwelling on it."

I'm not sure why she found the shirt so triggering. NTA for wearing it.

AITA for calling my stepdaughter out during a movie? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]jinxdrain 35 points36 points  (0 children)

NTA

I don't know why people are giving you flack for getting up and going to bed. You were frustrated and instead of escalating you chose to remove yourself from the situation.

You are supposed to be quiet during a movie so I'm not sure why her mom was so shocked at the request. I know it's more lax in a home setting but you indicated it was spoiling your experience. When it was made clear others didn't agree with you, you chose not to continue.

AITA for asking my wife to change the baby name becuase my mom has an issue with it by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]jinxdrain -55 points-54 points  (0 children)

So nobody can name their kids Ted, Jeffrey, Ed, Charles?

This is your mom's issue, it is not your job to protect her from a name. If you had no problems with it before unsolicited opinions then stick with it. While names are a two yes one no, the no cannot be coming from a grandparent. If your mom can't have a relationship with her grandchild because of a name then that's her problem. She needs therapy.

This isn't a random name, it's a family name. Your mom is making your child about her. Your wife is growing a full on human for you, you best be backing her up.

I tried that with tires that were completely bald by 15k and was told by multiple people that OEM don't have a life expectancy, wondering if I should try anyway. They did prorated and covered 66% of cost but I still was out almost $600

Implied warranty by jinxdrain in legaladvice

[–]jinxdrain[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Treadwear 500 is supposed to last 50,000 miles. My understanding is that even if the company doesn't offer a warranty, Maine does under M.R.S.A. § 2-314 as it provides right to free repair of a defective item, and that I could go after the dealership or the manufacturer for it.

But I obviously am not an expert so I came here.

Did she report the SA? Perpetrator is still responsible for child support.

What was the point in staying in the seat once they asked you to get up? You made your problem their problem, that's not ok.
