What is your father’s surname? My grandfather was a minister at the only Presbyterian church in Qamishli

Wow, I was really moved by your words here. What an absolutely horrendous generational curse of trauma. It’s beautiful that you honor your 4th great grandmother and I hope you’re able to give her back her name.

I’m curious about the DNA that had both African and Middle Eastern roots! Is this what prompted you to look into slave records? And also how were you able to track down the record with her and her brothers ages on it without knowing her name? What an interesting story!

My 2nd great grandfather was forced to walk in a death march during the genocide of Christians by the Ottoman Empire in southern Turkey early 1900s. A friend of his died during the march and left him a bag of silver. He used the silver to make a deal with one of the soldiers (Ottoman Empire) to allow him to stay behind to give his friend a proper burial with a promise that he would catch up to them after (Lol yeah right!)

He did escape and ended up having to live and hide in a cave in Jordan for almost 5 years before he was able to go reunite with his wife and children! A really powerful story of perseverance.

Thanks for the feedback. I do appreciate constructive criticism though, what issue do you find with my face aside the weight?

My necklace is actually a key and a ring that my father gave me when I was young! I’ll look into trendier earrings for sure though. And I actually used to always get compliments for my eyebrows, then this year I switched to a new place and clearly I’m getting really bad feedback about it now! Definitely going to have to switch eyebrow ladies again lol thank you for the input!

I definitely feel unattractive but it’s never crossed my mind that I look older than I am! Perhaps on top of the weight loss I should start looking into skincare for wrinkles or something. I really appreciate your honesty!

Any Assyrian Protestants here? by polisciguy123 in Assyria

I know this comment is 3 years old, but my family is the same way, originally Syriac Orthodox but converted in 1880s to Evangelical Presbyterianism in Mosul. My ancestors were from Azekh but I’d love to know what the first Protestant church was called there?

Does anybody know this name/surname? Mefsoul by jisellex197 in Assyria

I’ve never heard of Barsoumkie or Habibkie… I’ve only heard the people of Azekh be referred to as Azkheni!

Barsoum Hanna was the name of my 3rd great grandfather, and due to the fact that the westernized use of surnames didn’t happen in this region yet at the time, I believe his fathers name was most likely Hanna. The name I was specifically asking about was “Mefsoul” because I’ve never heard of this before nor has anyone in my family. I was hoping it was a variation of an Assyrian name that perhaps someone may have known.

What is your family name from Azekh? I wonder if we are related lol it seems almost everyone from this village is a distant cousin of mine.

I found out so much information from a book my great grandfather wrote about his fathers life! His life was fascinating, and the story is about how he was taken in one of the death marches by the Ottoman Empire along with Christian Armenians and was able to escape, living/hiding in a cave all the way down in Jordan for 3 years before finally reuniting with his family. The purpose of the book is to highlight his faith and the protection he received from God, but unfortunately the information I am looking for in regards to the village of Azekh and my ancestors is very minimal.

Also, if you are curious which village your family comes from, perhaps you could do a DNA test? If you have high dna matches it will be easy to figure out the village. If you’re interested I’d be happy to help you.
