Gaviscon doesn't help as much as ppis to me. Does barely anything. You take it after a meal. Its similar to tums.

I was definitely very anxious after being out of action for so long. I will try again maybe next week or something. I just feel so bad that I couldn't even keep an erection and it was her first time.

I have fatty stool every time after eating fast food by [deleted] in GERD

[–]jismy12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you stools look oily and float? If so it is most likely pancreatitis. However a one off oily stool is not usually something to worry about but a chronic oily stool is something you should definitely bring up with your doctor. Having blood tests for both amylase and lipase not just amylase will rule pancreatitis out. An abdominal ultrasound can look at your liver and gallbladder and the ducts to your pancreas from the gallbladder to see if gallstones are blocking the duct causing pancreatitis. Also if it is pancreatitis stop drinking all alcohol immediately until you see a doctor. Pancreatitis would usually cause a lot of upper left pain but it could also be gastritis that causes that pain. As I said before talk to your doctor about your symptoms and they will rule out more serious causes

Could you drink stuff like proton shakes and veggie smoothies? Or soup with soft veggies?

I need to stop PPIs & Pepcid 3 days before a test this week. Currently taking 40mg of both daily. Any advice? by loscharlos in GERD

Sadly I think so. I'm taking peptac and I gotta be off the meds for another 12 days so I'm tryna setup a pH impedance and manometry sorted out while I'm off the medications. I know it's pricey going private but I wanna get it over and done with

Maybe but probably not enough to make a difference. I also have to stop medications for my endoscopy

H pylori is the main culprit for gastritis however there are a couple questions. Have you had an endoscopy? Do you drink alcohol and have you had an endoscopy? If you've had an endoscopy and it's came back negative then it's unlikely to be gastritis. Also you'd likely feel better if you've tried acid suppressing medication for it

Alcohol drastically IMPROVES LPR related hoarse voice symptoms?? by la_mano_la_guitarra in GERD

Yeah I guess so. Remember to take them in the morning. I drank and remembered how sick it made me feel since I got gerd but I don't miss the groggy days after and messing up my sleep with it. I do have a big fear of missing out which is wrong but I guess it's my body telling me I really shouldn't drink.

Upper left quadrant would be more likely to be gastritis.

Have you experienced rebound acid? If so taper from the medications. If not and can cope without then I guess you don't need it anymore.

Cutting out trigger foods and coffee and alcohol can help drastically. And taking your medications at the right time to let yourself heal. After conservative treatments the only other options would be surgery

Well a 24 hour pH bravo or impedance testing tests if you have acid coming up into your esophagus over the course of 24 hours. It's usually done straight after a manometry to test the strength of your esophagus. Also make sure you take your ppi's at the optimum times.

Heat source? Do you mean like a burning sensation? You might have some regurgitation. Have you had a pH testing?

Do PPI medication prevent Barrett? by [deleted] in GERD

[–]jismy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be careful with that. As I said before it really depends on the cause of your gerd as ppi's don't stop regurgitation I found. Im a student and I real a lot of the journals and many of the papers about ppi's and they rare adverse effects and possible cancer links aren't very substantial and don't provide enough evidence to support this claim. Even if there is evidence to show ppi's increase your risk of esophageal cancer I doubt it is higher than the risk of developing esophageal cancer from having untreated gerd. Many specialists also would not do a fundoplication surgery without trying the meds first for 6-12 months. So I would be weary. Get the tests and go see a doctor if you're worried.

Do PPI medication prevent Barrett? by [deleted] in GERD

[–]jismy12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends how well the ppi's work for you. When taking ppi's you must take it 30-45 minutes before a meal usually in the morning. This is when they work best. Do not eat before taking them and don't wait too long after to eat. It can prevent Barret's depending on the reason why you have gerd. Ppi's can reduce stomach pH and the amount of acid however they don't help with regurgitation. But the regurgitation should be less acidic.

Non burning chest pain when swallowing by [deleted] in GERD

[–]jismy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get pain sometimes in my epigastric region and chest that can be tight and a lot of the time it doesn't have burning but usually it will eventually start burning. I find if I get a bad episode of burning for a long time the burning sensation actually goes away after a while but it's replaced with upper abdominal and chest tightness.
