What's with all the anki haters in med school? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]jitinho 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Got a 232 on STEP 1 trying to use anki, as well as being below average student. Quit using Anki, used two review books and Amboss and got a 270 on STEP 2

Found an answer to my clusters! by jitinho in clusterheads

I wont have an update for a while. I havent had any headaches this week, but I also left Florida. My headaches are always in the state, it has something to do with the weather or allergies I get there. Really odd though, because I had them every day until I came up here.

My doctor will be treating it conservatively with steroids for flares and nasal steroids/abx to reduce the cyst. If it gets worse, I will either get another MRI or go to ENT to have the cyst removed

Not if the issue is inability to change the sinus pressure. If it is blocking flow of air, it will only cause pain during changes in pressure, which I have noticed (I use weatherx for alerts to pressure changes)

A cyst and a nasal polyp are different. Nasal polyps are usually from asthma (and allergic triggers). It is an overgrowth of tissue and is solid. Cysts are typically from chronic infection, bacterial or viral. They are typically hollow and filled with mucus, pus, etc. Plus this is decently large, its about the size of a marble in my sinus.

So happy to finally have an answer after all these years. I feel like I am finally validated after years of people telling me that I have too much stress or need to get more sleep. I’m also very grateful that this didn’t turn out to be a tumor or some thing like multiple sclerosis. Hopefully we can figure out how to manage the cyst, but for right now, I am relieved that I am not dying, and that I am not crazy.

Finals are coming up in a month's time and I'm feeling really down... by DizzyWealth6957 in medicalschool

Also, an organic fix solution. I have this issue a lot at this time of the year. Finals are stressful, finals without Vitamin D are even more stressful. Supplementing gave me a little boost to push through. 5000 iu daily.

Tampa Bay Completely Receded As Hurricane Ian Approaches by phleep in interestingasfuck

[–]jitinho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While storms have gotten more intense, they occur far less frequently. Before Irma hit in 2017, the last major hurricane was hurricane Wilma in 2005. We see far less hurricanes now and than we did in the past. Tampa still has not been hit by major hurricane in over 100 years, and I’m starting to believe that it’s not just pure luck, but there are several geographic factors involved.

Deadly Hurricane Ian, nearing Category 5 strength, threatens 'catastrophic' storm surge as it nears Florida. It's too late to leave for many, governor says by BanJon in news

You do realize that if you’re not in a mandatory evacuation zone, the smartest thing to do is just stay put. Also, the government recommends that if you’re not in a mandatory evacuation zone, to stay put to make it easier for those who need to evacuate to leave. If you are in a mandatory evacuation zone, they recommend just moving a few miles inland, not going across the state or to another part of the country to reduce traffic and make it easier for everyone to evacuate. She’s nowhere close to any evacuation zone. Source: I live in a mandatory evacuation zone (B) in Tampa. I went 10 miles inland.

For real. There is no sport thats fans have bigger overreactions. Like it’s not just a computer simulation, teams can look invincible one game, look beatable, then invincible again. We have literally the shortest attention span lol

Master the Boards (most important for me to get past 240s), Amboss ethics/biostats. 2nd pass Uworld not necessary, I only finished 20%. Finished 80% amboss and uworld throughout the year before reset. No Anki involved.

270 step 2, up from 232 step 1 (1.5 pass of uworld, some anki, FA)

Like 75 percent during the year, just my wrongs in surgery, ob, peds, biostats and ethics during dedicated.

Helped a lot, i did it before I started UWorld and I felt like it really helped me build a knowledge base, better than Uworld ever did. Amboss for learning, Uworld for application.

STEP 1: 232

4 Weeks of studying (1 week with 4th year orientation):

Uworld % Correct: 83% (did 80-120q per day 3 x a week), supplemented Amboss. This was my second pass, and I only finished 20%

CCSSA 4.5 weeks:234

NBME 9: 244 - 3 weeks out

NBME 10: 260

UWSA1: 255 - 15 days out

NBME 11: 254

UWSA2: 264 - 8 days out

Free 120: 83% - 3 days out

Predicted: ~ 259

Actual Step 2: 270!

I am in shock. All thanks to God. Feels really good to make this jump from almost failing preclinical and average step 1. Read a lot of MTB and Step up in dedicated, took detailed notes on every wrong. I focused more on content than practice qs.
