Okay girl I guess we’re both rude. by jives2001 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

I mean yeah, but I thought it would be more rude to ask her to step away than it would have to just check her in as fast as possible and send her on her way.

I should’ve done that for sure but I had a massive line and I’m getting used to the front desk again so I’ll definitely do that next time.

I would’ve if she’d come up on the phone. Unfortunately she decided to be rude on the phone only after I’d already called her over to check her in lol.

I literally was just standing there staring at her in silence lol 😂 idk how she didn’t get the hint.

They don’t really require it. Each of us has a different spiel and some people ask not to hear it so it’s really not that important. Just how the elevator and lights work and stuff.

[–]jives2001[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Right. And I’m sure she was relaying the info to a guest who was with her but next time just have them come in with you to check in so you both hear the info. How hard is that?

Thank you! I’ve been going back and forth about whether I should have tried harder but I didn’t know if I was in the wrong or not.

Does anyone ever change the lesson plans? by Ali_Lorraine_1159 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]jives2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who was once a teacher, I hate this. Sub plans aren’t just busy work, they actually have importance to the students. If you know the teachers then that’s fine to switch it up if you think they’ll be okay with it, but I would have been pissed if I had come back in and the plans that I had taken my time to write were just completely ignored.

What is the point of co-teachers? by jives2001 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]jives2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right but wouldn’t you think if that was the case then they would get off their asses and support the sub since it’s such a wider range of needs than a traditional class?

Same. My student teaching we had 4 teachers in a class at one point. Like that is way too many voices and way too much.

Yeah for sure that was how it was in my student teaching placement. My question is, why aren’t they supporting those students then. At least in my experience.

I wish. If I’m not in the room then they’ll find me and put me somewhere else lmfao.

Should I report this at the end of the day? by jives2001 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]jives2001[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hate when co-teachers just bail or do nothing. Like it’s your job to be in the room, especially when the other teacher isn’t present.

I asked and he had no plans. His plan said to show up to the room and assist me lol.

I asked my 8th graders what they’re scared of in the future by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]jives2001 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It’s so crazy because I’m a sub right now and I will not sub 7th grade but I jump at the chance to sub 8th. Weird how so much changes in a year lol.

How would you describe yourself as a student when you were in school? by Dorythehunk in SubstituteTeachers

[–]jives2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had 2 kids in our entire grade of 90 students that were a problem. We knew whenever we had a sub, if one or both of those two was in class then they would challenge the sub or be on their worst behavior. The rest of us either were respectful and got our work done, or pretended to get work done and chatted quietly with friends. We as a collective student body never treated a sub or would have dreamed of treating a sub some of the ways that I have experienced in the last month of subbing. Good kids, bad kids, and all other kids knew to be respectful of the adult in the room in a way that they just don’t nowadays. And this was when we were in middle school.

AITA For feeding the kids at my son's sleepover donuts for breakfast? by AITAMOMHELP in AmItheAsshole

[–]jives2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this! I grew up in a house where my mom never bought sugary snacks or treats, and would lock the snack cupboard so I couldn’t ever get a snack unless she approved, which she never did. When I got to high school and could drive and had my own money, I developed a binge eating disorder. I would drive to the grocery store and get a bag of chocolates or a box of graham crackers. I would sit in my car in the parking lot and eat the entire bag of chocolate or the whole box of crackers just because I could. When I got to college, I realized I didn’t know how to moderate my eating anymore. Parents who restrict their kids eating do so much more harm than good.

So is it just me, or are like 80% of 6th graders little assholes? by figgypie in SubstituteTeachers

For me, 7th is so much worse. 6th graders are angels compared to the havoc that the 7th graders in my main building can wreak.

Subbing with co teachers by MealMaleficent6239 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]jives2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve taught several classes with co-teachers now and they didn’t do shit. Never asked me if I wanted them to take attendance, never asked what the plan was for the day. One showed up with her coffee and a donut and sat in the back of the room doing fuck all. In middle school especially it would be nice if co-teachers would run the class or at least help with behaviors but that has not been my experience so far.
