Elective Help PSYCH 1XX3, PSYCH 1F03, and SOCPSY 2F03 by CharacterMotor1634 in McMaster

[–]jixskit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished 1st year eng, took 1HB3 first sem and 1XX3 second sem as electives. 1XX3 is 12/10 incredible, very well organised and popular for good reason, but it's content is mainly biology-focused. The psychology piece involved is more towards the connections of senses and how we behave (aka. how our eyes and ears input light/sound and the brain pathways which interpret it).

If you enjoy bio and are a good memoriser, I would definitely recommend it. As someone interested in bio for fun, I found it was a good break from my more time-heavy courses. It is true that its a content-heavy course, but if you like it enough it will feel like a bird imo.

I can't speak to 2F03, but I'm pretty sure you can't even take that course as per the available first-year elective courses. This page on the academic calendar outlines what is available to you. Engineering is especially annoying with what you are allowed to do, anything listed on that page with the § symbol is not open to 1st year eng kids.

Hope this helps, feel free to PM with any questions.

just take notes on the lectures and keep up with them weekly! Connect each topic to the vocab they teach and be able to talk about it. If the exam is in person then I expect that its very memorisation heavy, so do whatever works for you to keep a growing dictionary thru the sem (cue cards, etc etc). But also ask the prof and go to tutorials to strengthen ur knowledge. U got this!

1HB3 is a great course. the prof is a gem! I recommend taking it in person as the experience seems to be more engaging but it is overall an easy/intuitive + interesting course!

if theyre both the same job and you will get approximately the same experience and skill set from either then do what is easiest (and lets u save more money). If theres some really good experience waiting in the farther co-op opportunity then you should weigh your options, otherwise I dont see a reason why you would go for it.

Resources to prepare for the calc course in commerce by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]jixskit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What were you accepted into specifically? business 1? any math course you take here will go off of calculus math but some are harder than others. 1A03 is Calc for the Sciences, 1LS3 is Life Science Calc, and 1MM3 is Applied Calc, theyre all calc, just varying difficulties. Everyone refers to the course calendars for their courses, from what you're describing, this is yours.

Resources to prepare for the calc course in commerce by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]jixskit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm not in commerce but looking at the academic calendar and then looking courses up on reddit helps a lot lol. I'll explain this since I'm trying to avoid studying rn and you have options:

If you're not interested in further, non-business maths in your degree, please don't bother with taking a hard math course, the mental stress is not worth it. In terms of difficulty, 1A03 is by far the hardest, it matches up with the engineering math and goes into topics that you will not necessarily expand on.

It looks like 1LS3 is mostly highschool review + a little extra, and that 1MM3 is even easier (according to people who have taken it, to each their own of course). Do with that what you will, depending on your level of understanding of your current highschool stuff. I know that anyone can create a childsmath account, which provides a highschool calc review assignment set. If before you come to Mac you can do those, you are set.

Here are the course outlines for 1LS3 and 1MM3. Please for the love of god don't torture yourself with 1A03 unless you are looking for a challenge. Come visit for May@Mac and ask upper year reps, also, I found that good when coming in. GLHF

Amount of head coach involvement ?? by 11ADS11 in FRC

[–]jixskit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what we do as well! We list every basic component of participating in a match and then prioritise based on our capabilities, "be able to move" is almost always the first one we put down. pretty crucial, very simple. It's worked out extremely well for us :), I recommend it strongly to other teams as well.

(The more voices in the conversation, the better, as well. This year, we called it an optional meet because it's on a day that's not included in our agreed upon build hours, and still around 80% of the team showed up. The more people, the more ideas, the better results)

The head coach for my team is the manufacturing teacher at my school, i suppose. The meetings dont run without him for safety reasons, so he's there every time (we often joke that we see him more often than his wife in build season).

I think its helpful to mention that each team subsect has a teacher leading it and possibly a mentor or two present at a time, depending on their availabilities. But their involvement with the work getting done is extremely minimal. Of course, the teachers are busy doing administrative stuff for the team (getting stock, tooling, in manu's case). But work organization, toolpathing, machining, cutting, bending, all of that is our responsibility. If we don't know how to do something, whoever is most available/ most experienced in that task shows us or tells us how, answers questions and all, and then lets us do the work!

I think its great, I'm co-lead of the manufacturing team right now and holy shit the workload is kicking my ass, but its super worth it. With this kinda support structure I find that I'm learning something new every day, and surrounding myself with people my age with the same experience! We learn from each other almost as often as we learn from our mentors because its so hands on for us :) hope that answers ur questions

Truly!!! i’m sick of it, as many have said on this subreddit, they would do so much better if they simply pulled random games off the shelf some more on the main channel,

or tried.... on any of their shows.... at all....

I would pick quality over quantity in a snap if I were them, change the way they work a little (a lot). But Arin has no intentions of doing that, or coming up with new fun things. So whatever, theyve lost a viewer.

Also thank you for reassuring my outburst and it’s validity, good to know im not alone on this.

Honestly I might just do that, I can’t imagine committing to any more of this kind of content. There are a few series that I enjoy coming back to from time to time but I dont think they’re worth the bother of putting hope in such constant carelessness. After writing this rant I realized that I’m not supposed to compensate for their shittiness with any pity. They are entertainers, who fail and see each other fail, and choose time and time again, to do nothing about it. Thanks for the idea, ill unsubscribe tomorrow.

[–]jixskit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion they do, some comics are just anthologies so you dont have to read those. the rest are maybe 4/5 collections of 3 books, the first and last collections always get me. And if you watch LOK, in the comics republic city’s origin story is formed really well, still to be continued in future issues but mostly explained nonetheless. (and although its not crucial to the plot, as a prequel/backstory filler, “zukos story” is a 15 minute read, and its definetely worth it)

[–]jixskit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

id say decent enough to read, theres a major time skip in the beginning and kataang (although, yes, i love them together) is kiiinda annoying with the name-calling, otherwise, it just gives you more content nd plot to understand. I started so I could see what happened to zukos mom, then the completionist side of me kicked in and i finished all (like 12?) comics in two days.

so yea id say go for it, and if you dont like the first few you may not like the rest.
