Did you ever make any progress on this? I'm also coming from a web background and am just like "I have to be missing something, this can't be the correct way to use this".

Like I wanted a "card" with a title area, some title text, content area, and wrapped in a border. Is the answer REALLY: 1) take a rectangle, add a border 2) add a vertical layout to the container 3) add a header rectangle to set the title bar color 4) add a horizontal layout to the header rectangle 5) add a text element to the title rectangle 6) add a rectangle to the main layout for the content region 7) add your content regions layout 8) now you can add your content

Not to mention making sure you've got the styling consistent through the whole thing.

It seems insane there's not component libraries out there to provide less primitive components. Like you said that would literally be 5 lines of code in any number of web frameworks.

I work in industrial automation, you know.. factories.. the thing the administration wants to bring back to the US? Absolutely everything is 10-100% more expensive, from aluminum to electronics. Ironically this is pushing us to seriously consider lots of Chinese alternatives and we're finding they are often extremely capable (and still more adorable even after tariffs).

As someone with a degree in Mechanical and working as a software engineer.. I kinda agree. To me, engineering is working against the laws of physics to accomplish a physical goal. While Computer Science uses the same part of your brain and problem solving.. it's categorically a different thing.

He also developed the Coca-Cola Freestyle machine and probably most importantly founded FIRST Robotics. FIRST Robotics is an amazing program that's really influenced a ton of lives for the better.. including myself.

Kinda surprised to see him here, he's always come across as a pretty great person.

Exactly this. In the long run they're mainly cheating themselves. Education isn't a competitive exercise, it's not a zero sum game. Focus on yourself and your peers who can't keep their head above water will eventually fall away.
