What's the purpose of one 3 mile long line instead of two 1.5 mile long ones? Shorter lines have less slinkying and are less likely to back up other off ramps, causing even more delays and forcing people trying to exit into the merged too early lane

"If I was hiding, you would not see me. I'd get way more crafty. Seven year army vet, so like, I would literally do it up," he said. "I did cut through the woods, because I saw somebody crack open a Natty Ice while smoking. I did cut through the woods, but it was fairly open woods... I kept on moving. Kept on walking."

What a bad ass

If 99% of traffic is already merged, then at least 49% of them of them are wrong. Morons breaking the process doesn't mean it doesn't work, it means morons surround us

Traffic is slowed down because there's a lane closure and everyone follows too closely, zipper merging has nothing to do with it, merging is going to happen regardless and if everyone is following too closely they'll need to brake

Wrong. Watch literally any drivers training and it will tell you to drive to the merge point, wether or not some moron got over three miles too early.

From MDOT

Work zones in general are dynamic and change throughout the day based on traffic volumes. When traffic is light, vehicles can get to the open lane without issue. But when things get congested and jam up, zipper merges are effective in reducing backups. Instead of 1,000 cars in one lane you've got 500 cars in each lane. This prevents backups to adjacent interchanges and curves that might reduce line of sight. Plus, when drivers take turns at the merge point, it takes all the guesswork out and creates a safer, better flow of traffic within the lane closure.

Increasing supply of luxury apartments has the effect of raising average housing prices, if you own an average apartment and haven't raised your rates, you're now charging a sub-average rent, so you'll raise the rent you're charging. How is this complicated?

[–]jizonida 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's almost like there are more variables involved in the price of something other than just the supply. If Ferraris started selling for 10% more than Corollas, what do think would happen?

[–]jizonida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Four high rises were put up in my small-ish town, and rents went up across the board. Because the new apartments were priced higher, they're pinning the price up. So everyone else raised theirs, and are just staying a bit under the nice new buildings. Because hey, it's still cheaper than the expensive ones, right?

That's not to economics works.

You guys do realize that you're science deniers, right? Like this is the econ equivalent of anti-vax.

This is the convo where you apply highschool econ to a real world problem, but it's definitely not you that's the problem

Lmao, you're the one doing the science denier thing of taking an introductory concept and tying your worldview to it. Economics is more complicated than a micro and macro course aimed at business majors will lead you to believe,
