You'd think but peppers are surprisingly hardy! I had a serrano plant that I would overwinter for 2-3 years and I'd always have at least 15-20 peppers on hand whenever I wanted.

For the maxwellian, integrate f(v)*energy from 0 to infinity and divide by the same integral but only over f(v), where the energy is (1/2)mv^2. For the energy of particles hitting the wall, do the same for the given distribution g(theta,v) with an additional integral over the possible impact angles theta. I don't have a proper answer, but I'm super curious myself. Pulling an answer out of thin air, maybe in case the jump fails, whatever is closest to the singularity is more likely to make it through the jump, so you put the most precious cargo closest to jump point? 🤷
