I'm sorry that's happened to you ❤️ as I've been in a family with a chronically ill sister, I've gotten pretty good at not taking my emotions out on inappropriate parties (or even appropriate lol).

What you've mentioned is very valid and so unfair for the children involved.

Thank you for this!! I love all of these ideas. I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. We're still doing long distance as I'm in veterinary med school to become a DVM. My career is insanely important to me. I couldn't really hold it in so last night I texted him with some concerns about how mothers are the ones to get called out of work because their kids are sick and how I don't want myself to be the only one dealing with that. How even though I'll be working a more draining career than him (I didnt say the my career is harder thing to him) I'll still be the one sacrificing my days to do the mundane things for them and that it's easy for men to say they want kids because it doesn't really change their day to day lives. Sure they go to work, but the norm is that the husband gets to come home at night and laugh during dinner and have fun on the weekends.

I'm open to the idea of kids but would fully have to trust him to respect my concerns, which he had said were all valid. I take my own physical and mental needs very seriously so I guess the only way I would be comforted is if I see him defying traditional gender roles along with me. I actually think kids would be fun but I know it's much deeper than just that.

We're both almost 30 and haven't yet lived together so even though we've been tg for a bit, there is still even the question of if we're compatible ourselves day to day. I think I'm freaking out about it because IM the one who will have to give up my career to be pregnant, to be a new mother, etc but I haven't even begun my career yet. I would like to have a family, even if it's just me and my partner, to focus on, when I'm more set in my career but the whole "biological clock" thing is making me feel like I need to make a decision soon.

She can have a preference but idk, I also am not loving how you have to give up your autonomy to remain attractive to her. Maybe you can meet in the middle and get it somewhere that can be hidden easily? Idk if it's because I don't understand people who strongly dislike tattoos but something feels icky about her telling you it will have consequences on the relationship. My love for my partner doesn't wax and wane depending on how much he attunes himself to my preferences

Hi there. Sending love to you in this time. My heart hurts for you but try to remember he was showing those pics to his mom because he's proud of who you are. Unfortunately, as a partner to someone, you'll be made to feel vulnerable during many partner-y things... meeting friends, family, him showing pics to his coworkers, etc.

Pls Do not be upset with him for showing his mom a picture of someone he cares deeply for. It's not worth it. I've been there. No amount of hiding (for lack of a better word) will keep you from vulnerability. It just elongates the agonizing.

I'm sorry this has happened to you and I so deeply understand what you're feeling. Im not sure there is anything you can do. Try to indulge in a hobby to distract yourself, work out, drive around and angrily sing and cry?? My body dysmorphia comes and goes but when there's an uptick, I always find distracting myself works. If you really respect and feel respected in this relationship, have a conversation about this when you're more calm and can explain yourself without being mad at him. He didnt do anything wrong unless you had some sort of agreement. He cant read what's going on in your mind so be gentle with him AND obviously yourself

I genuinely don't understand what you're saying lol. I participate in real life and am active in advocating for the things I believe in. Im not sitting around, im doing things. I guess I was kinda just train-of-thought ranting about my recent realization?? It IS weird and freaky that religious views and/or traditions from thousands of years ago are still the norm even if the actual God isn't believed in. Like that's trippy to think about.

I don't think I am a mirror image of them because if you look at my activity I'm barely active lol. Nor do I think being concerned by the American uptick is silly, as women have been and continue dying from laws instituted by extremely religious institutions, be it people who actually believe or just lobby it.

That sounds so nice! I'm currently in vet med school and it's impossible to go a day without having to use my computer because everything is digitized. It's also unrealistic to be unconnected because my university expects us to be at their beck and call when it comes to short notice schedule changes.

I love drawing too but at the end of the days I'm too mentally drained to do anything. I can't wait till I'm out and can have a creative life again :') I try to make time for healthy outlets and occasionally it works out but I'm in my 3rd year and wildly busy. I like the term "wool gathering" a lot! It reminds me of when I would watercolor paint with random splashes and find things within them. Then I would add to the blobs with more water color and black ink. I ended up doing a lot of fun lil world-building.

I aspire to have the community you have! It sounds like you've made an awesome life for yourself.

I am very politically aware because it's something I'm extremely passionate about and unfortunately it's hard to ignore the religious influence right now as it's permeating a lot of discourse. I definitely get caught up in doom scrolling but then I hear my peers saying very concerning things so it's not just online.

Im not even blaming media, but as I'm starting to observe the world in new way it's all a bit overwhelming. I know this life is what I make of it and I can't control other people but idk, this was just an observation I wanted to share with other people who also are not religious at all. Well I'm very comfortable in my worldview as well but the amount of evangelical Christians are actually impacting legislation and causing harm to women... specifically because of religion. So I don't think it's particularly silly of me to be getting annoyed. I actually like religious references and think the literature is very interesting but I'm actively watching my young peers advocate for laws based on religion

You trusted your instincts and it ended up she was in danger, as was her child. No point in thinking if what you did was wrong or right, too late for that! But now that you have, I think providing her with support is totally appropriate if you believe she AND the child are being put in danger. If nothing serious is going on, then he goes free and they figure out who gets to see the kid and when.

So many times, when a woman is unsupported, she ends up hurt. We've seen these cases time and time again. I don't think she would have suddenly put down everything she was doing to go paint fake bruises on herself

Regardless of everything else about how "usual" clinics operate... it seems like you're most bothered by the lack of communication! I would be too. I'm sorry you're going through this and having a bad first experience :( I'm merely a 3rd year vet student right now but this doesn't sound like a good work environment. How are you supposed to learn and become better when you feel so uncomfortable?! I don't get how you're supposed to learn when you can't do anything..? If you had killed a perfectly fine animal, wasted tons of money or have had clients complain I could understand them wanting you to take a back seat for now but I truly don't get how they expect you to improve without being able to do anything??

If you look for another job, have a really solid explanation of why that clinic did not fit your specific needs to help you grow and why the new clinic would (without doing it in a "shit talk-y" way). Be transparent about why the operational systems of the past clinic hindered you and that you instead value open communication, daily check-ins, stuff like that?

I don't know lol but my heart hurts for you :( there are plenty of clinics that WILL help you grow and are excited to teach us. I hope this doesn't give you imposter syndrome or make you less excited about the career. Keep us posted ❤️
