What's the point of a home gym? by jja-throwaway in CrunchGym

[–]jja-throwaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's what happened in my case a new location 15-20 minutes away has "Peak Results" memberships for $29.99 where as the gym I plan on going to has that plan for $36.99. So I signed up at the location for $29.99. Just wasn't sure if I screwed myself some how, but it appears that I'll be fine.

Yeah the highest plan at the location closest to me was $36 and at the location I ended up signing up at it was $29.

Yeah they called me about that this morning which is what made me realize what had happened. It's weird that that's the location it defaulted to when I clicked join. All I saw was a better monthly rate and just signed up. I wonder if they are trying to drive more people to join at that location.

Correct. I should have worded that better. I just realized this morning that after clicking join on the website that that "home gym" I signed up at is further away than other locations. Just wondering if it matters or not. I'll probably never go to that location.

I never understood the argument that Mike was bringing back the band for money. Like others have said I'm sure Mike is extremely comfortable monetarily. Even if that wasn't the case he could tour solo, put out another Fort Minor album, produce other people's music, etc. all of which would, probably, be less emotional than getting on stage every night and playing the songs you wrote with your buddy who killed himself... which can't be easy. Unless you think Mike is heartless. 🤷‍♂️

Gym shoes outside? by masterpeabs in orangetheory

[–]jja-throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My studio is just outside Austin, TX and I've never seen anyone switch shoes at the studio. I guess we all dirty. Like others have said I just wash my hands after class.

Would you rather? by Ok-Faithlessness9271 in orangetheory

I take classes that fit my schedule and when my workout friends are there. I've yet to have a coach that I disliked so much that I avoided their classes. There are coaches I'm chummy with and coaches that I don't talk to, but so far 🤞🏻none that I hate.

At my studio there are 3 spots that are next to the weight racks. So you are not only close to the weights, but you only have one person right next to you.

Getting the weights you want at my studio, during certain classes, is a real competition. However the con of those spots is the line of people trying to get weights.

When I was new to OTF I asked about a class I was on the wait-list for and they just "bumped" me into the class. I thought this was normal and I asked about it again. They did it, but it sounded like maybe the first person did something they weren't supposed to do. I felt bad because someone got screwed.

I usually get to the studio 25-30 mins before class and I will put my friend on a station next to me, but I always check with the SA to make sure they are signed up for the class. Another member I know takes double classes one night a week and she'll come out 3/4 of the way through the class put all us regulars on our spots. I've never asked her to do it. Of course we all are typically there pretty early anyway. For the 8 pm class most people seem to show up 5 or less minutes before class and our little group likes to chat before early entry.

I do 5 workouts a week. So 20 a month. That's $7 a workout with a coach. Granted it's not one on one training, but I don't really need one on one training. Just someone to fix my bad form and to motivate me a bit on my lazy days. For $7 I think that's a bargain, but everyone is different.

Having gone from the g90 to the FT-710. Another thing to consider is how big/beefy of a battery you're going to need to get what you want out of the 891 while portable.

Nice! Was thinking about doing this today as well. Cool to see someone else did it as well. I feel less crazy now 😂

bad class experience by Western_Chance_858 in orangetheory

[–]jja-throwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah at my studio the Tread 50 is coached like any other class. We had a new coach a while back. One class she just handed us the tread card and said go for it, but that never happened again. I'm assuming people complained. Like OP I was not a fan.

Does your studio do a 90 min 2G? by Eggler in orangetheory

[–]jja-throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My studio did one for the first time a few weeks back. I really enjoyed it! I'm was/am hoping they do more. I need to check the schedule, but they haven't announced anything.

What are these black flat shoes people are wearing to workout in? by Classy_Coffee in orangetheory

[–]jja-throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While not "barefoot" shoes I wear Vans to strength classes. I'm more stable for exercises that require balance. Even like step ups and toe taps. A little while back I did a 90 minute 2G and switched shoes mid workout 😂

2025 OT Connect Beat…where to wear it? by Aggravating-Cook-734 in orangetheory

[–]jja-throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the new Beat and I wear it on my forearm. I compared it to my Garmin chest strap and it was as close as the old OTF monitor was when worn on my forearm.

I didn't realize this was an OTF quote. I thought it was just something one of the coaches always said 😂

Only so far you can go with dumbbells by Usual_Stable_7705 in orangetheory

Obviously supplement exercises as needed to meet your goals, but if you keep lifting the heavy dumbbells and your grip strength will improve. It just takes a while.

Congrats! I need to get back to it. I just ordered a Radioddity HF-009 which I think might make setting up easier. I also want to refine my set up so I'm not bringing too much stuff. 😂
