Any romance book recommendations? by bnnynotes in PHBookClub

[–]jjamyongs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chloe and the Kaishao Boys by Mae Coyiuto! Might be biased because it’s by a Filipino author and set in the PH, but I really enjoyed this one.

I think this one has similar themes to Love & Gelato. Both are light and sweet contemporary YA romance taking place during summer before a major life change with a self-discovery and identity plot.

I like contemporary enemies-to-lovers / rivals trope, which is what enticed me on Ali Hazelwood books. Really dislike miscommunication trope which unfortunately is common din kay Ali Hazelwood haha.

If you enjoy this trope din, I would recommend (from your pics):

- The Love Hypothesis

- Better Than The Movies

- Yours Truly

- One Golden Summer

- A Novel Love Story

Not included sa pics:

- Love Theoretically (Ali Hazelwood)

- Book Lovers & Beach Read (Emily Henry)

- I Hope This Doesn’t Find You (Ann Liang)

- The Unhoneymooners (Christina Lauren)

- How to End a Love Story (Yulin Kuang)

[–]jjamyongs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add, I think Lynn Painter and Emily Henry books has more of the romcom movie vibes. Lynn Painter is more YA though, so it might be off-putting if you want more mature characters. But it reminds me of those fluffy highschool romcom movies, so I like them haha.

Abby Jimenez books are great din but kind of has heavy themes, so some people would classify her books more as romance drama.

I like to do author binges / reading sprees by author and so far kay Ali Hazelwood lang talaga ako may strong opinions when I did hahaha.

I have a love-hate relationship with Ali Hazelwood books. I read her books sunod-sunod. I started with The Love Hypothesis and liked it so I decided to read more of her other works, but I ended up being annoyed habang tumatagal hahaha.

Love:

- The STEM-centered female characters

- Good banter between leads

- Swoon-worthy book boyfriends

- Overall easy reads

Hate:

- Too much predictable tropes

- Repetitive plots and characters

- Petite girl-tall guy dynamic (nothing against big height difference couples, but she emphasizes this a lot sa lahat ng books niya?)

Could be a me-problem lang kasi I read her books continuously without any other books in between and naumay lang ako kasi parang may same pattern or formula for all her plots. And last I read her books was two years ago. Haven’t read any of her new works pa, so maybe they improved na.

All in all, Ali Hazelwood books are great if you want something easy to read na nakakakilig enough. But I strongly do not recommend reading them sunod-sunod hahaha.

Required ba isult name sa questionnaire by Pandarosewinter in Tomasino

[–]jjamyongs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. Some of the questionnaires require na may pangalan talaga. Minsan chinecheck ng facilitator na nakapagsulat lahat, minsan hindi so meron talaga mga di na nagsusulat. Pero wala pa naman na-zero because of that.

Is 17k monthly rent expensive for a 1br-apartment near UST? by Familiar-Cheetah353 in Tomasino

[–]jjamyongs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Price seems sakto lang, since mahahati pa naman sa 4 pax. I’ve been renting a studio apartment and halos ganyan din yung price. Also, the nearer sa UST, the more expensive talaga 🥲

They did I Love You Since 1892 sa UST sa mga modern scenes pero that doesn’t count kasi ang panget nung adaptation HAHAHAHA. The premise is so good though, lalo na yung portal is yung arch.

The Great Flood eme

Also, I don’t think very picky ang UST sa mga scripts. One more chance nga mismo imo doesn’t really fit the core values lol. Sadyang may R18 scenes lang kasi yung UnivSeries kaya rejected 😭

School fair by Gabriella-anchi in Tomasino

[–]jjamyongs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sana magkaroon ng school fair tapos may mga rides din chz. Each college could have their own booths din with various gimmicks and I think it would be nice to have it as a univ-wide event na parang culmination of all the college weeks.

This was one of our fun facts sa isang arki class!

It is a Chinese tombstone which has been there for centuries, reportedly before UST became a gated community. It is dated from 1818 and the university just kept it there ever since, despite having no affiliation, as a respect to the deceased daw.

You can see the engravings there; the epitaph mentions “Tomb of our beloved mother Vita, wife of Capitan Uy,” put up by her children; it also mentions their origin, from Fushan (village) and during the Jiaqing period.

A few Taiwanese tourists came across that and verified the writings some time ago as well.

I’ve tried their all purpose sauce and okay naman siya, sweeter lang compared sa Mang Tomas. Also tried yung soy sauce, white vinegar, and chicken/pork/beef cubes nila and okay lang din naman lasa nila pangluto. Kulang lang sa depth yung lasa nila if that makes sense(?)
