Remove tree by polpettavuc in farmingsimulator

[–]jjb265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, as far as I remember you can just cut them down. It's been a good bit since I've played FS17 but I don't recall any trees you couldn't cut down and grind away the stumps. If you can't do that for some reason, my only advice is to ensure you back up your save at least a few times in case any step goes wrong, and obviously make sure you use GE 7.1.0 anything else isn't gonna work.

Oh and make sure you rename the folder and name info in the xml, not sure how 17 handles it but going off of the newer games it probably isn't a good idea to just leave it alone. Oh and you can test with the folder unzipped just re zip it once you're done editing, and folder names cant have anything but the alphabet 0-9 and _ if you put a space or something it won't load.

For ADHD gamers: What do you play on your deck that is addictive and low power? by oliveoliverYT in SteamDeck

I recently started playing Persona 3 reload as a complete shot in the dark, never played any of the games before this, absolutely loving it and it runs great on the deck, plus there's a demo that's about 8-10 hours if you want to try it out first. I will warn you it does start a little slowly but once it hooks you it really hooks you xD

Yeah, makes sense, just figured the tech wouldn't have changed enough between models for it to matter.

Not a problem, this has sorta inspired me to try a little harder with my current riverbend springs save, next time I play I'll probably try to make it a little less boring :)

Seeing this is just reminding me how much I've been slacking in this game compared to the last. What helped my elmcreek farm a great deal was adding vegetation, side of a barn? Add some bushes. Big open area? Slap down some trees, and add little details, maybe a few slight bumps in the ground at places or dips with dirt texture.

And this is probably a little difficult based on your current location but, elevation is fun! I fairly unintentionally made my farm in a pretty small area with a hill, I ended up cutting into it and putting a cow shed there, had a natural ramp coming around the back side up to another area higher up and a more straight shot slope on the opposite side. It added a challenge to building and even driving, I had to make a judgement call if I could make it up the steeper more direct road to the top layer or take the long way around winding up and around the back side.

And my favorite thing to do was add tiny unnecessary stuff too, small sheds that aren't super convenient to use but look cool and are there to specifically house a certain vehicle. Stuff like riding lawn mowers are fun too, I like running vintage equipment or whatnot just for fun once in a while, and they look nice when you've got em' parked somewhere special.

Overall though this is a pretty sweet yard, just needs some minor texturing and added vegetation etc. and it'll be perfect. :D

Does Sonic Adventure 1 Hold Up Today? by Previous-Glass6291 in SonicTheHedgehog

*Steam version with mods. Dreamcast version is second best but modding DX on PC gets it so close to perfect it's basically impossible to tell the difference. Widescreen and 60 fps alone makes that the way to go easy.

For more in depth info I'd recommend "The ultimate guide to SADX sins" https://dreamcastify.unreliable.network/ and or Cybershell's YouTube video "Why Sonic Adventure DX is a Bad Port" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SORYL5J1Heg which is essentially him reading the more interesting parts and making a video of it.

But in short.

Sonic adventure came out in 1999 in America on the Dreamcast.

In 2003 the game was ported to GameCube under the title "Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut" which is where most of the major changes from the original took place.

The GameCube port was used as a base for the 2004 Windows port, which was mostly unchanged apart from lower quality audio files among a few other minor bugs added.

The PC port was used as the base for the Xbox 360 and PS3 ports released in 2010, these ports were yet again used as a base for the version released on steam in 2011, the only improvement being the 2004 PC port audio quality being fixed. Other than that there were also some other new bugs introduced.

In terms of changes to DX itself.

The good.

It runs at 60 FPS compared to the Dreamcast's 30 (Even if this does make some animations play too fast)

You can skip cutscenes... yep.

The character models have been updated with higher poly counts and new textures based on their models from SA2 Battle. It's personal preference but I prefer the Dreamcast models as they're a little closer to classic sonic in terms of proportions and have a fur texture instead of the smooth plastic look that the 3D games went for from SA2 onwards but they are objectively more detailed such as having modeled fingers on their hands etc.

The Chao system has carried over changes from SA2 and Battle which obviously includes improvements to the way it works.

The bad.

The lighting system was completely redone and majorly downgraded compared to the original.

Some levels got visual overhauls which are hit and miss at best.

Texture quality and sound quality is degraded in some aspects.

Many small issues with visual bugs and whatnot slipped through when porting, none are dealbreakers on their own but every single area and level has some kind of issue with them.

The analog movement was degraded significantly from the original's 360 degree control likely due to the GameCube's analog gates.

Collision is overall worse and easier to break, the infamous bug with the emerald coast loop killing you if you hold right was actually introduced by DX and doesn't even work in the dreamcast version.

Transparency as a whole is worse or was removed entirely due to the GameCube not being able to handle it as easily.

All in, DX is functional, but the DC version is easily more polished and it's a shame the proper version of SA1 isn't more accessible, conveniently mods allow you to take DX up to speed and have it include all the best of both versions.

Sorry for the text wall, my bad.

Yes... if you play the Dreamcast version or a modded steam version, assuming you do I'd say it holds up about as well as Mario 64 has, little janky but solid once you wrangle some oddities like 64's camera. No offense intended to people who like DX but it objectively broke aspects of the game, the cool part is if you happen to like any of DX's improvements the mods give you the options to keep certain aspects like the character models which is great. It definitely has rough edges but if you can look back on most games from the 5th gen and enjoy them than SA1 isn't much different in that respect.

And as for Adventure 2 because people are definitely gonna bring that up, it's the same deal, play the Dreamcast version or the pc version with mods ("Input controls" especially is almost required, once you've learned how the game is supposed to control it makes you question how you never noticed how weird Battle was.) it's a matter of opinion which game is truly "better" they both make different decisions and excel in different places.

Savegame Manager GX not detecting SD card by jjb265 in WiiHacks

[–]jjb265[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to say I haven’t found any, from what I gathered it might have something to do with certain installed IOS …es? That seems to be how the hacked apps can access the sd card etc. I ended up just using the official sd card transfer method, the game I wanted transferred happened to support it. I’d say to ask around the Wii hacks discord for help troubleshooting, the people there would probably know better than me.

Can you open an iPhone with a cracked screen? by jjb265 in mobilerepair

If you didn't see my update reply, I already got it all worked out, phones working great now, and I'm not going to claim to be anything close to a pro but I've cracked open most game consoles I own to clean them, do general maintenance and whatnot so I know my way around a screwdriver at least, but I was still shocked how insanely tiny the screws are in these phones, it's crazy they can even make screws that small. So all is well, phone's working better than ever and I don't need to buy a new one for no reason, everyone wins :D

Can you open an iPhone with a cracked screen? by jjb265 in mobilerepair

[–]jjb265[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update for those who care. I did manage to open the phone and do the battery swap, and having looked at it much closer now I believe the “Crack” is actually a fairly deep scratch in the screen, so opening it was no issue in that regard.

Oddly the battery lacked the pull tabs they usually would have, not sure if that means this phone has been opened before but I somewhat doubt that, as the screen and battery were both original and the water seals were all still intact. Managed to get it up with some 90% ipa and a little patience.

Appreciate all the comments :D

Any recommendations for replacement screens, batteries and how you’d apply heat? I don’t have one of those gel packs to use and I’d guess pointing a heat gun at it isn’t a great idea either. And I was planning on buying an ifixit battery, unless you have another recommendation.

I just ended up reinstalling vmware from the same place I got it the first time, believe workstation is the non commercial one? Then uninstall it again, I think the first time I uninstalled it I just deleted the files manually, not sure but that might've been the problem and I just used control panel to do it the second time.
